  • @fmskido

It is disheartening that Nigeria chose to change its post-independence national anthem to adopt one imposed by the colonial British authorities. The original anthem, "Arise, compatriots, Nigeria's call obey" was a symbol of our hard-earned freedom and a tribute to the sacrifices made by countless Nigerians who fought and died for independence from British rule. By reverting to a colonial anthem, we undermine the very essence of our national pride and the struggles endured by our forefathers.
Nigerians who laid down their lives in the fight for independence did so with the hope of establishing a nation free from colonial influence. Their bravery and commitment to freedom should be honored with a national anthem that reflects our sovereignty and unique cultural heritage, not one imposed by former colonial rulers.

The suits, news casters wear/the English dresses everyone wears all over the place? This anthem speaks volumes about what we need, to bring us together, as Nigerians & every song has a spiritual undertone.

Honestly, I used to rate Senator Umeh very highly until this interview. Imagine him saying that because we are practicing representative government, the opinions of those he represents doesn't matter as long as he's there. Senator, you are supposed to represent the opinions and concerns of your people, not yours. You are there as a vehicle. No wonder these people don't make good laws that improve the lives and well-being of people they represent. They really don't know why they are there. Shame.

    It baffles me how the Arise reporters come to interviews without preparing to ask the guest the right questions. Imagine the following questions;
    1. Do you think the house and senate should take this decision instead of a referendum?
    2. Did Senetor Umeh consult with his constituents if they wanted the anthem changed? Does he have proof of this if the answer is yes?
    3. Nigeria today faces serious economic problems including the food inflation. Why is the expedited pass of the anthem bill the most important thing to the legislators?
    So many questions.

Unfortunately, the people the criminals handed over to were not prepared to lead a nation like the contraption called Nigeria. The country called Nigeria today died with the death of Herbert Ogedengbe Macauley. Nigerians are to blame if the can allow drug dealers, thieves and killers to run the affairs of the nation. People in the country called Nigeria should insist on a recall process for these ignorant politicians. By the way, Nigerians should reject the "Nigeria we hail thee" anthem. Sportspersons should not stand in attention to that anthem. Mr. Umeh, please do not take Nigeria back to slavery. Mr. Umeh, people in your consistuency need to recall you now.

He was never an Obedient. He jumped into LP to ride on the back of Peter Obi's popularity.

I am really very ashamed of these Agbado Senators we have in this country. They are very shameless, whether from PDP, APC, LP AND NNPP. You can imagine what a senator representing a constituency is defending. Mr. Senator please can you tell us what development you have brought to your constituency in one year?

Since APC wants to go back to the past with electric speed according to dummy Umeh.
They should pass a bill to handover the government to Britain so they can go home as brothers and stand in brotherhood.
They have lost focus and sense of reasoning. They've lost relevance and should be relieved of their duties. They've become a choir
    group.

This Umeh man is a very big bad market for LP. Very big shame to this man. He said taking it step by step why not start with insecurity and restructuring.

I'm disappointed to you Victor umeh. All these hullabaloo have been going on in the senate, and my question has been where's senator Victor umeh? I don't know that you had been part of this mess. You guys go there and live in your reality. Have you asked your constituency what they think before you support it?. Now I know that you are out of touch to reality. We will meet you in 3027. Make sure you pack the money that's enough for you to rigg yourself in in 2027. Thank you.!. You ran on peter Obi's fame. Search your conscience would peter obi would have done the same thing you just did?

Not a new Anthem but a revert to the colonial route a form of Neo colonialism .This is not we want now but reduction of the hardship in the country. Heartless leadership we want decline in the cost of living. Pass bill that will better the life of the common man on the street.God help this country

    Interesting !
So the Anthem that this National Assembly has changed did not allow them to think well as expected ?
So lyrics of the Anthem did not challenge them enough as a compatriots and did not enable Us to live as one country ?
I blame the people voting them over and over, Nigerians must learn to know who they vote in any capacity.
It appears no one want to speak against the wish of the president. Or they did not see the old Anthem, until this administration ?
I hope this people will start moving the bill for restructuring as well.

Please can this man tell us what was wrong with the athem that is just being repealed. Is he saying that the constitution does give adequate guidelines which NASS members flaut with impunity.
