You’re doing it correct tuning each station, I’ve seen videos of people doing a band scan or going through their preset channels claiming it doesn’t do much. Well of course it wont. Equally a lot of people don’t realise the antenna is directional. Then there is those who aren’t aware different bands may utilise a different antenna (MW vs SW etc) so you have to be knowledgeable about your radio and how to operate this antenna
I wonder if the antenna elements were spread a part by a wooden dowel or plastic rod, instead of a telescoping piece of metal, if that would favorably change the Tecsun antenna's characteristics. The metal rod could be affecting the efficiency of the loop. That is something I would check out.
Excellent video Gilles, thank you. I am going to get it and MLA30. The former for convenience as 'self' powered. Could you use a shorter length of cabe than supplied or would that affect any 'matching', please?
Tecsuns are pretty deaf when it comes to the medium wave AM broadcast band. The Tecsun AN 48X works on the same principal as the Radio Shack model 15-1853 (click youtube video ruclips.net/video/VQy9iEiITSc/видео.html) to see it. It's not my video, but I own 3 of the Radio Shack loops, great little antennas and easy to use. The better the radio, the less difference an AM loop will make. I have a Panasonic RF-2200, no radio performs better in the AM band than that radio - no external antenna needed. I own numerous radios, including a Tecsun, none of them come close to the Panasonic as far as AM sensitivity. 73 de KQ2N

thank you for the review! it is a pity that you did not test the antenna on your own Tecsun PL-680 receiver :)
Top tip: The antenna input for the XH-Data also works for Air band.
Great test Gilles, I’m sold on getting one simply for MW DX.
Ok just looked it up. The coupler comes with antenna.
Wats better to use the loop or this antenna for medium wave?
I have same radio xh-data
Nice and informative video. Will try to get that loop. Like your radio stand, haven’t found a stand like that, thanks again
The coronavirus warning in the beginning there is so weird to look back on now, how times have changed!
Put it up against the Tecsun loop. The loop is more compact and looks better displayed.
Well done. Very informative. Thank you for you effort.

BillyLapTop If I’m correct, aluminum will decrease the inductance of the 1 turn coil a bit, if it would be noticeable.
I can already tell that you are going to cost me some money.....lol. Great videos, can't wait to see the ones you do testing it on shortwave.

Both are on their way.
a good test would be to try the Degen DE1103 directly connected with the jack - this radio can be 'cheated' to use the jack connection easily :)
👍...

Where do I get that ferrite coupler from?
It is included with the AN-48X kit.
