    Stewart was the fastest man in the history of the sport on a 125; even with the clear displacement handicap placed on him, on a sand track(!), he is capable of so much more speed. Watching him ride, his every movement is towards the preservation of momentum. The man was an athletic genius on a bike. He literally willed and forced the bike to go faster. We may never see an athlete of his caliber again.

      No disagreements with anything said about Stew on that 125. He was an animal on that 125 2-stroke, but when he jumped up to the premier class, he became like any other athlete. When he went SX-only at the prime of his career (age 23) in 2009, that was the beginning of the end for him.

    • @BilkoMX124
      @BilkoMX124 11 месяцев назад

      The 04 RMZ and KXF were literally the same bike, it was a joint effort in RnD and production...both bikes were terrible, stock ones would grenade constantly without warning...they'd run great (by great I mean, normally) until it wasn't running at all and you were sent OTB...Wouldn't start hot, had to reset the timing all the time. Threw rods out the cases, piston would kiss a valve. The lighter Ti valves and stiffer springs helped the stock engines reliability, but you had to stay ontop of checking valve clearances. These days stick with steel, they're strong, reliable, and stay in spec longer than Ti.
      When you started trying to get more power out of these things, they were grenadining literally everytime those guys would go out to test, practice, and race lol...Hell, Ivan blew a hole through the front of the engine and it dented the frame here at this very race. I blew up engines as a B rider on a costumer spec Mitch Payton built engine, which were nothing like his works bikes. Can't imagine how many engines they went through in 2004 alone

    Thanks for posting these. I've been enjoying these races for years. I don't think we'll ever see a rider who dominated the 125/250 like Stewart did. A fun fact: JS won last 8 OA in 2002, all 7 he entered in '03, and 4 in a row I believe in '04 before his only loss of the year. Over 24 motos won in a row over 2 seasons (we should call it the Stewart Sweep), 19 OA in a row from 2002-2004.

      I really don't think we'll see domination like this ever again either. I happen to have known that long string of wins from James already. Hard to believe James went 28-3 overall in the 125cc class... w/ 27 wins coming on a 125cc 2-stroke, too.

    I have a feeling the 2002-2004 125 seasons will be hot catches in good quality for a loooong time. This is what the young lite class pro´s were watching at Wick 2016. 5 seconds a lap is a lot.
    To do it over and over for years is unlikely. Doing it as a teenager on an underpowered bike is probably...I don’t think I will get to see it anyways. Where is he now? That kind of question could I dare say I wont ever ask on an ”active” racer at that level again. Perhaps since the might not be one.
    That story will be told for ages and it is material for even a mainstream movie. Great stuff, of course. I feel sorry on the competition and even the commentators these years.

    • @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames
      @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames  8 лет назад +1

      True. Once James got the 125cc class figured out, he couldn't be touched. That's like a lion who hogs all the meat for itself and snarls at the next person who tries.

    • @user-lh8rb5wx6q
      @user-lh8rb5wx6q 8 лет назад +2

      Yeah! I mean how can people even talk about if the guy is legit to race if he wishes? It was not a few races and a win streak, it was a totally new level from a 16-18 year old, constantly. There are many greats, in many ways, but the impact and hole that came and leaves with James will be hard to replace.
      I might simplify, but even Herlings, Roczen, Eli...?...is nowhere near this dominance.
      Look at where James Stewart was by 23 years of age? -2009- :
      Fresh of a perfect season outdoors, and 2 SX titles in the 450´s, among tons of wins. Besides the lites class.
      He wont be touched.
      I got to stop watching these vids... Thanks anyway.

With the exception of 2003, a 4-stroke has won at least one Supercross or Motocross championship every year -- that proves it's effective.

    Hepler was kind of a putz in the sand. Southwick being my home track for years, its pretty crazy that he kept screwing up the double and not realizing the choice line for that double is the inside

    • @MathewVsSportsMediaandGames

      He never had that win in the sand, but Hepler was one of those riders where luck didn't agree with him a lot of the time (like Casey Johnson and Derrick Shae Bentley).

    They’re lucky James wasn’t on a 250f. You may love 2 strokes and all but the reality is a factory 250f is faster and more powerful than a factory 125. He would’ve easily eaten everyone alive while letting everyone through the first corner before he even took off.
