    Do you think cheating in one game means you should be banned in all games? Or just the game you cheated in?

      I think it should be an instant Permaban for that particular game’s community, and then I would like to see communities use some kind of a marking system that identifies those that have cheated in other games before, sort of like how if you get a speeding ticket it goes on your driving record. That way communities can be armed with the information they need to make their own decisions

      Dash said it best. If you're caught cheating in a game, all of your other runs should be put into review. The fact that tiki deleted his whole channel shortly after being called out is suspicious. Now that his runs cannot be reviewed, its safer to assume that they were faked as well. An honest person doesn't hide evidence

    What I love about that mod is that he apparently doesn't only verify runs on stream, he also tries to provide the runner (and his audience) with as much feedback as he can.
    The community (which I'm not a part of) is lucky to have him.

    • @TitaniumTurbine
      @TitaniumTurbine 3 months ago +53

    • @TheNoonish
      @TheNoonish 3 months ago +34

      @TitaniumTurbine Yeah, it was great. He was pointing out little errors where the runner might have lost a few seconds here and there and explaining to the audience how to optimize. He had been streaming an attempt of his own that was ruined by a bad fight, so then he jumped onto live-verifying a submitted run.

    Let's be clear, deleting all your videos when you get exposed for cheating is the same as admitting you're guilty.

    • @SampoPaalanen
      @SampoPaalanen 3 months ago +1

      It certainly would bias anyone to assume you were guilty, if there was nothing sus about those runs then having them stay up would serve as evidence that those runs were valid, by deleting them he removed the possibility to recheck those runs which means mods would have to assume he did cheat.

    • @TheBlackSeraph
      @TheBlackSeraph 3 months ago +39

      Agreed. I have no qualms in giving others a chance for redemption, but you have to assume that if they've done it once, they've done it before and will do it again and as such need to be held to a much higher standard of verification.

    • @prismoWRLD

      That's what they do.

    • @onlineidssuck
      @onlineidssuck 3 months ago

      This is already the standard. He was just saying that cheating in 1 game doesn’t disqualify every run you’ve ever done. There will be more scrutiny but it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve never done a legit run. The deleting of all videos makes it impossible to verify so it in fact makes every run illegitimate.

      @mikeymoughtin Videos can get lost for different reasons, like when Twitch deleted a lot of old VODs, it’s not fair to remove the verified runs just because the submission is gone.

  • @miles3101

    I am a firm believer of using reason. If you delete all your speedruns, there is only one potential reason besides a freak coincidence: Some of them were cheated, and he decided that since this one would bring major scrutiny to the rest, he would not be able to get away with the classic "I only cheated on that run, trust" strategy.
    It makes sense then to delete his speedrun digital footprint. He can just come back to it in a few years under a different name, because we all know people like that never truly learn.

    • @cmshap
      @cmshap 3 months ago +24

      Right. And as for Karl's question, "Do you think cheating at one game should get you banned from the leaderboards on all other games?" My answer is yes.
      If you create just one cheated speedrun, that says something about your attitude towards speedrunning and the speedrun community in general. IMO the greatest thing about speedrunning is the community behind it; it's collaborative just as much as it is competitive. If you cheat, you cannot have any respect for this community.

    • @SpaceRaccoon22
      @SpaceRaccoon22 3 months ago +4

      @cmshap Especially as there are methods of cheating in some games that are undetectable or have enough plausible deniability that they very much rely on an honour system, and you break that trust at your own peril

    • @imperator9343
      @imperator9343 3 months ago

      @cmshapthe "just for that game" boundary seems pretty arbitrary. If you are DQing runs that were probably legit within one game, on the basis that some others in that game were cheated, what is the justification for not doing the same in other games?

    • @greebj
      @greebj 3 months ago +4

      I used to be a believer in reason until I studied law... you don't need to touch the issue where YOU have the onus of proof to prove they were a cheater - you can sidestep it by making a decision that gets the same outcome by a far easier, uncontroversial method: every record that requires an uploaded run as proof can be removed simply because the proof is now absent. Leave the hard issue to some other judge in some other court 😁

      @OvenFridge i mean they only have to cheat a run one time. For a game like FF7 has to have so many submissions, even known runners and record holders have to be screened. The person cheating at a 5hr+ speedrun is banking on a moderator not catching a small moment, and they go undiscovered all the time. DashRetro just happens to have an encyclopedic knowledge of a game that has had many years to be more or less "Solved".

      please go ahead and provide a demonstrable solution that adheres to these two criteria being met
      1 - communities which host their own leaderboards instead of using SRC, like goldeneye, mega man, doom, etc.
      2 - cheaters who have been caught but just change their screen name and continue going submitting times to a different game
      i can tell you it simply doesn't exist because you can't force communities that don't use SRC, to care about what SRC thinks should be the case
      in the mega man community for instance, there are banned runners and they don't show up on the SRC leaderboards but they do show up on the MM community's own leaderboards because they simply don't care what SRC moderation thinks lol
      as for the second one, there is nothing stopping anyone who has cheated, from simply just wiping everything and returning under a new alias after laying low for a while
      this happened in LTTP for instance, someone got caught cheating, left and came back under a completely different pseudonym, integrated themselves with the community and became on good terms with the moderation team and they just didn't care to continue upholding the ban since there was no reason to believe any of their new runs were cheated
      the fact is, speedrunning is not some standardized activity like an actual sporting event, it is entirely grassroots and nothing can or will change individual game communities from doing whatever they want, and no amount of people in the peanut gallery being like "yer all dem dere cheaters needa be run outta town!" will ever change anything lol

      Coming back to the Internet sneakily and under a completely different alias is not fine with me. Too many cheaters have done this already.

      @Connie_TinuityErroryeah, well I can do that regardless of what they choose to do with their main account.

    programmer here, actually the biggest things stopping you from having a successful career in programming are 1. no one wants to hire you because you don't have 100 years of experience, and 2. corporations thinking an AI can replace you, and it can't, so they hire someone cheaper instead after they fire you.

      Programming is also a skill that is useful in a lot of other jobs. You don’t have to be a professional software developer. At work I can see a clear divide between people who process their data with python and people who are stuck with their excel formulas.

      @terriplays1726 I know that many other professions use programming, met a few physics student who were learning to code, but he specifically said a "successful career in programming" so I assumed he was talking more about if you want to mainly be a programmer.
      also both of the examples you gave are about data, as a programmer I dealt with data, data structure, UI, server, web development, and package creation, so there is a huge difference in the needed knowledge between those who use programming in their field and those who programming *is* their field.
