  • I'm reacting to STAR WARS EPISODE IV: A NEW HOPE (1977), the first time watching it! Completely blind and have no further knowledge about STAR WARS whatsoever.
    About Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
    Star Wars (retroactively titled Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope) is a 1977 American epic space opera film written and directed by George Lucas, produced by Lucasfilm and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is the first film in the Star Wars film series and fourth chronological chapter of the "Skywalker Saga". Set "a long time ago" in a fictional universe where the galaxy is ruled by the tyrannical Galactic Empire, the story focuses on a group of freedom fighters known as the Rebel Alliance, who aim to destroy the Empire's newest weapon, the Death Star. Luke Skywalker becomes caught in the conflict while learning the ways of a metaphysical power known as "the Force" from Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

      I can handle when reactors do it in a movie or a TV show because these are non-interactive mediums that can be rewinded. It's much worse when a game streamer has chat up constantly and then tries to balance game/chat and thus missing crucial context. For example one streamer managed to get Wrex killed on Virmire and then blamed Ashley.
      Then told me to stop backseating in the first ME2 stream because i said that in ME2 loyalty missions and ship upgrades are very important for the final mission. I would have not said that had i not seen what happened to Wrex.

      I think more reactors don't do it because it's harder to edit. Most reactors will only record their part and the editor has to sync the movie to their video and edit from there. Looks like she is recording both the movie at the same time (in OBS?) as her video which is easier to work with as far as editing.

    Yours is definitely the most energetic reaction video I have seen to this movie (and I have seen MANY). With the way you were swooning for the droids and then Luke, I fully expected your jaw to drop upon seeing Han, and you literally did exactly that. Absolutely perfect! You have questions, you want more, watch the next one...and the next...and then go to the prequels for the full (enough) backstories. If you know as little as you say, it won't spoil what is ahead and you can enjoy the journey the same way I did. I will suggest, without any spoilers, that you will go bonkers over the next one (The Empire Strikes Back). It is my favorite and will be exciting and satisfying for you.
    The giant lizard, Jabba, the gratuitous droid and animal shenanigans in Mos Eisley were added in 1997 by way of new CGI. Oh, and in the original Greedo never got a shot - Han shot him before he got around to it. Greedo shooting first so Han could have a "self defense" excuse was added in 97 to take his rough edges off. Stupid move. Han was perfect in 77.
    The lightsaber duel was a restrained affair because they used fragile practical props that broke a lot. The best they could do for VFX back then was rotoscoping and adding some light effects in post. The prequels are much more dramatic because they had 20 years to improve their film making in that area.
    By the way, Governor Tarkin (the guy holding Vader's leash) was played by Peter Cushing. He was a mega-star from earlier days - I will not even attempt to list his credits, but he played many badass characters and portrayed Tarkin with understated villainy. He and Alec Guinness brought established star power to this film, and it showed in every scene.
    Looking forward to the next post.

    This movie is 46 years old - at which time it was just "Star Wars", with no mention of being "Episode IV" or "A New Hope" - but about 25 years ago George Lucas unwisely released a new version called the "Special Edition" with new CGI effects. The CGI was unnecessary (in almost all cases, the original effects were just fine), smooth/flashy/modern enough to make the old effects look old-fashioned and limited, yet cheesy and over-animated enough to make the new effects look cheap and silly compared to the grounded reality of the earlier practical effects. Then he made sure that it was impossible for anyone to ever see the original version (except on old VHS tapes), despite it having been a better movie overall.
    But, you'll get the point of the movie and most of the flavor of the original, and it's enough of a pain to find and watch the unauthorized "original" versions online (ie, Despecialized), that nobody can blame you for watching Lucas's authorized and conveniently-available version.

    Gosh, this is the best day of my life! Now I can't wait to see your reactions to the following Star Wars instalments!
    I just knew you'd love C-3PO and R2-D2, they're so precious!

    P.S.:
    I can provide you with the species names of all the animals and sapient individuals you see in there, if you are really curious about them. Most of the species names do not appear in any of the movies, so I can be your spoiler-free encyclopaedia, with your approval (just to be safe). Just ask, and I shall provide the answer ^^

    Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin (you know, the "You may fire when ready" guy), despite looking so cold and menacing in this movie was apparently (at least according to everything I've seen) a very sweet and charming man. In fact, I just recently saw an interview with him from 1977 where he was just a joy to watch; very giddy.

    You know something funny? Bioware, the guys who made Mass Effect, worked and made Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. Biotics are based on force powers. Asari are based on the twileks, and the renegade and paragon options are light and dark side.
    Also, there's like 4 people who play Darth Vader: David Prowse, a body builder for his height and menace, Bob Anderson for the swordsmanship, James Earl Jones for the voice, and Sébastien Shaw for Return of the Jedi

    • @garyballard179
      @garyballard179 Год назад

      Biotics are based on technology and science, not magic (unless you want to discuss midichlorians).
      The Asari are based on aquatic invertebrates, though early concepts were drawn from Dune and Babylon 5.
      Paragon and Renegade were an attempt to move away from the binary light and dark system, though it took three games to perfect it. They're based on the Lawful/Chaotic moral alignments.

    • @Soveliss74
      @Soveliss74 Год назад

      @@garyballard179 for the biotics, I meant the general theme and feel. And, if you want to get really technical, the asari are an homage to general sexy alien races in sci-fi

    "How does the lightsaber work?"
    Yes, it is a laser beam, it does cauterize limb wounds upon contact, but since this was the first ever Star Wars (and it wasn't planned as anything other than a quick sci-fi film) they were still working out the details.
    Also, if you want more Harrison Ford, others have mentioned the Indiana Jones series (I recommend as well) but, Blade Runner (the Final Cut if possible).

    Some fun Star Wars facts for you. (In no particular order.} The theatrical version from 1977 did not have any CGI because it didn't exist yet. It was all models, makeup, and film effects done the hard way. With giant models by driving by them filming while blowing them up. And if they messed up they had to rebuild everything and do it again.
    In fact there are a lot of changes from the original theatrical release. For example the text scrolling at the start starts of with just Star Wars and had a simpler content after that. And there are few scenes missing because special effects weren't good enough yet.
    When the storm troopers entered the control room where C3PO and R2-D2 were hiding one of the troopers hits his head on the door.
    R2-D2's name came from movie filming language. It stands for Reel 2 disc 2. There's more but this is good enough for a start.
    Now I'm waiting for your reaction to the next one. The Empire Strikes Back
