"Vulfmon visits the Bay Area for an Old Fashioned and a slamming-fretless-clawhammer rendition of Soldier's Joy & Whiskey Before Breakfast."
My banjo watches this video when I’m out of the house
APPROVED.
ROB I DIDNT EXPECT TO FIND YOU ON A VULF VIDEO
You're awesome!
Game respecting game
How have I never heard of a fretless banjo before? It seriously sounds magical.
Would love to be this young man's next door neighbor; to hear this music drifting over my back fence and through my windows...never seen anyone play clawhammer so far up the neck, it's really a nice sound. Motivates me to pull out my banjo today!
It's been years since I've first listened to this. It's every bit amazing as when I first heard. Damn good stuff.
Long time listener and fiddler of Irish and old time. Grew up listening to Frank profit. Just finding your music now. Beautiful. Hope to hear you Some day in person.
This chap should be famous the World over, fantastic clawhammer, clean, rhythmic, beautiful sound. Thanks for filming and uploading
I've listened to this video many times and I never tire of it! I want more.
Perhaps more than any... his style (and this vid) captures the freedom, verve and creativity of clawhammer banjo... but of course... this takes great skill, which obviously Rob has in spades. Ultracool... surreal... love it.
Hi Vulfpeck please tell Rob Stenson to quit screwing around with Twitter and start making more banjo videos.
Amen Brother.
Incredible banjo work, and the synth comes in at just the right moment. I'd love to see this done in a studio.
This is one of those videos that actually makes the "old-school" film effect look stunning.
wow! that is some beautiful playing! I'll watch that many times...
That young Stenson feller is awe inspiring.I could listen to this for hours and hours.
♥️🙌🏾 I love the sound. So peaceful and rustic. Feels like fellowship.
Oh my heart, be still--please someone hear my plea--what would I give to play banjo like that.
Man, is he ever having fun...
Kudos to you Robert...
I am wearing this video out.
For real. This is soooo sick! The world needs more of Rob's playing!!
This is just wonderful. I keep watching it over and over and am totally transfixed. Could listen to it all day. Plus - what a fantastic instrument!!
Probably my favourite banjo video. Stunning.
Soldiers Joy with a hell of a twist......very very good.
WW Suwannee actually sounds like 'Whiskey Before Breakfast'
Very cool aged photography look, 60s attire, antique banjo-I had to check the date of publication.
+Joshua Hugo That banjo is new. Built by Kevin Enoch I believe.
now you got me looking at Enoch banjos :'( a man can dream
That just made my day better!
I really love this sound. It is so emotional. thanks so much. can't wait to hear more.
this is the best thing I've seen in a while
fantastic - brilliant versions of these tunes-
Rob, you've just proved that the acorn don't fall far from the tree.
Loved it! That right hand is amazing.
the synth at the end just adds to the mystique of his ability...well done!
You never lost your cool vulf, mister Stratton in particular, thx
Awesome playing. Really like your banjo. Neat fretless.
mate ive been working hard on clawhammer banjo for over a month now but the more I progress the more illusive and incredible robs playing becomes
Ah...very cool arrangement. Tis some mighty fine playing there - some of the best I've heard!
That is truly awesome! Thanks for sharing:)
Wow, that was great. It's a real feat to pick that cleanly and still maintain that drive. Well done, hope to play that well some day.
Great version of this song and great playing!
this is the coolest thing i've seen
More like this please.
Where are you Rob Stenson? And why don't you love the banjo anymore?
Too busy raking in that vulf compressor money I guess
that....was amazing!!!
Fantastic!
I am completely astonished by Rob Stenson's ability on the banjo, this is a true reverence, this man needs recorded, interviewed and eventually preserved for Smithsonian Folkways.
That is one brilliantly-bent Soldier's Joy & Whiskey Before Breakfast! Shiver me timbers young man!
I also detect some Ravi Shankar in you.
Can't believe I haven't stumbled upon this before, a clawhammer video on Vulf!
I love this so much :)
Truly inspiring!
He's Great! Such Americana
Now I want to learn Clawhammer!!! Great Video!!!! I just ordered the Enoch Tradesman Half Fretless Banjo!!! Love your style!!!
Love this
my good lord....insanely great
incredible.
sounds like billy in the lowground more than anything. straight beautiful.
excellent!!
too short. too insanely good. i love this.
holy guacamole boy--that's just lovely. You just motivated me to practice a LOT more. You make it look effortless! Thanks for posting--just not enough clawhammer out there.
Positively brilliant! It could almost go indie. Just started banjo 2 months ago and have listened to countless players online in my journey, this so far is the most intriguing. I can't listen to it enough. It already has me thinking of my next banjo being a half-fretless.
I know some will consider the intro and vid to be odd, I found the weirdness entertaining and creative. The first time I saw it I thought it was some home movie from the 60's. Top notch low-budget production!
this reminds me i still have a very long time haha damn good playin
Wind.... in South San Francisco.......weird.
Great playing!!!!!
Yea, that's wildly good!
this dude rocks a crazy nice banjo
Very good!
Yeah, this is great. Good ole Round Peak style playing.
Woah, very nice sound.
awesomeness
Magique et magnifique ❤❤❤❤❤
great playing!
amazing
Super cool.
Nice one!
Cool playing there!
Sweet!
Goddamn that is some sweet playing.
Great!
@ Bloom . This is more along the lines of the old school traditional Banjos. They didn't give them frets till later on to make them easier and more appealing to higher class folks and everyday white people lol I'm glad they still make them with the high G .. That's strictly from its African heritage
Why can I find nothing else about this guy? Awesome playing...
Goddamn, fucking amazing.
Yes!!!
sounds like Galax and Roundpeak to me. really fantastic
Hoooooly shit! Mind blown!!!
It's a semi fretless with a frailing scoop. The sweet spot on a banjo is around the 19th fret so a lot of players have the top 4 or 5 frets and fingerboard scooped here to play over the sweet spot. He's an axing player.
Wow!
Wow!!
Assaz crocante!
Five stars !
me too!!!! same model! we're Batch Brothers!!! post a vid when you get it :)
Quite simply ACE...
Is this narrated by Werner Herzog?
No, Henry Kissinger
Harold heardman
WOW!!
Great.
Totally agree
Dis be hipster as fuck - I approve.
God damn!
No that's playing a banjo. Amazingly good...
"Now please look into my magic murder bag"
There is a fretless section at the top, no? allowing those quick deep slides. Hugely impressive...your playing is impressive & the roots of this music is impressive.
Rob. Why did you never take up the Banjo as a career? Your playing was, and still is virtuosic... if that word exists.
Holy shit a frailing banjo
Where can I get me some more Rob Stenson Clawhammer recordings?
Wow ...
BRING ROB STENSON BACK
That's pretty special by anyone's standard...
