Thanks for the kind words! I bought the guitar 2nd hand, but it had no modifications. It was original exept for the strap locks and I left it that way. I use 011 Elixir strings which sound very snappy on the guitar.
Both pickup haunting tones are awesome. I have a silver sparkle 5126 (same guitar different color). Through an Echoplex it is just killer Thanks for the video
The 5129 doesn´t have a tuneomatic bridge, only a static one. Some have a pinned bridge and another bigsby type tremolo, although they are named the same. The D´Armonds, like most single coils, buzz pretty much on stage exept the middle PU position. I use a noise gate to kill noise in the playing pauses.

So...now I am on the hunt for a good used 5125 or 5129! Thanks for your videos!
@@holgerbogen-I just purchased three Gretsch guitars as a life gift to myself. My wife was like what are you doing? I said, I simply want something that I've always dreamed about. She understood. She's always understanding and a truly lovely woman. Grateful to have her in my life. So, I got the Torino Green G2622T, the Maple G2420T, and the Black and Gold G5422-12G. They play marvelously! But it should be noted that I'm not a great player. I write auto collision estimates, and I'm a part time song writer and Gospel minister, and these guitars will help me in that effort. However, and in any case, I must admit watching you play is inspiring. You've accomplished quite an impressive body of work, and I wanted to congratulate you on that! Also, I was driving home thinking about your achievements, and it got me to think of my efforts for the Gospel of Christ. Probably not a great point of interest to you, but still, you've inspired me to think back my efforts in the work of Christ, I wanted to thank you for that bit of inspiration. Terrific playing and for once no tons of overdrive which makes any guitar sound the same. I have a 5129 and a UX-1and am only interested in a clean sound to hear the true tone of the guitar. I am very pleased with the 5129 but have also noticed a tendency to buzz. Your playing is brilliant and now I think I should take up lawn bowls. :-(
+Rastus Germumple. Hey, glad you like my playing. I don´t like distorted guitar demos either. I have a PU comparo of the stock DeArmond 2000s and TVJ classics on YT. I definately like the DA´s better. You've got a good guitar, so keep on going and practicing. You unfortunately never "arrive"; as a guitar picker :)
Guitar sounds awesome. I've always loved dynasonics. Recently I played through my buddy's Guild and like your guitar noticed the aluminum bridge. I think that's a big factor. I would love to get your thoughts on bridge materials.
I don´t have that much experience with different bridges. I tried a tuneomatic bridge on this guitar, but it wasn´t a big difference to me. I like the guitar pretty much, the only issue is that the pickups tend to buzz pretty much. More than tele single coils or so.
Am I correct in assuming that the difference between the 5120 and the 5129 is just the pickups and color options? And the 5420 has the "baldwin-era pickups" and binding on the f-holes. is that about right? Do any of them have the fixed or "pinned" bridge? I'm really digging the sound of the D'Armonds....
Hi Buddy did you have the De Armonds Pickups put in there or did it come that way. And may i ask if you are using a amp and if so what kind. and how are you getting that nice reverb sound what unit are you using
Are these the De Armond 2000's ? I am looking at a used 5129 with De Armond 2000s and it's a bit cheaper than the 5420, but I really like the black top Filtertrons in that one. These sound great, though. The one I am looking at has the 2000's, so if these are them, definitely the "Gretsch" sound I am looking for.
Buddy, let me say first- marvelous playing. I've seen Billy Zoom and Brian Setzer rip it up on their Gretsches, but they better watch their backs!! :) As for the guitar. Well, I found a CHERRY Aspen Green 2012 (floating bridge) 5420T so I bought it. Love it. Love the black top Filtertrons. However, I also bought that 2004 5129. I am not a fan of the tension bar on the Bigsby they used the first couple of years (B70). It looks like you have the one with the B60. However, I will deal with it when it comes in the post but that was my only hesitation. I made an offer on Reverb.com and got an acceptance so there you go. I am now the proud owner of TWO Gretsches. As for the honk/nasal, TV Jones has said the Filtertrons, De Armond's etc. really are sensitive to height (pole and pickup) and I'm sure I can tweak it so it growls just the way I like it. Thanks for the help. I'm really stoked!
John Smith Thanks for the compliment John. Then you´re equipped well now! Maybe you can change the biggs some day? One thing that bothers me about the 5129, it´s very sensitive to electromagnetic single coil buzzing in neck or bridge position. In middle position it´s iliminated though.
I've heard that. Well, I guess that's what Noise Gates are for! I have heard it's pretty easy to either remove the tension bar or just divert the strings over it. It's really more appropriate for flat top, not an arched top guitar. My original hollowbody and the only guitar I still have from my (cough!) younger days is the Ibanez Artist Model AS200 1980 version, the ES-335 killer, and Scofield's guitar of choice. I always wondered how it would sound with a Bigsby, maybe I'll add one, one day as long as I can do it without doing any damage/changes to the body. It's been an incredible investment I don't want to mess with. Eventually, I want a flagship, like the 1959 Townsend had, or one of Setzer's souped up hot rods, but these electromatics are fantastic and I can't see or feel any "compromise" in them. It surprises me that Fender has done so well by Gretsch. I'm not a Fender fan (since Leo left), and I think their guitars are way overpriced and underwhelming. I prefer G&L any day. But they have certainly done right by Gretsch and turned around the (at one point) shoddy rep that some electros had.
I am in the market for buying a Gretsch and not sure if a Gretsch is suitable for the style I like to play. I mainly play blues and also like the fingerpicking pieces. Occassionally I try to play in the style of Chet Atkins but I consider myself as a intermediate beginner in the style of Chet Atkins. I do like to learn some rockabilly solo's by the way. I am deciding between three models: Gretsch G5120, G5129 and the newest G5420T. Would really appreciate your view about these guitars!
Absolutely incredible playing! (Though the 5129 has a great sound, I imagine that with your technique, you could probably get a good sound our of any guitar). Any chance we could get a song list, as there are a few I don't know the names of and would like to attempt.

@@holgerbogen Thanks. One last question. With the single-coil pickups, if you put both pickups on, but you turn the volume of the bridge pup all the way down and the neck pup all the way up, do you, in effect, get the neck pickup tone without any hum? Thank You
