Let go of your past so you can receive the blessing that god has in store for you don’t let the past hold you back from happiness and don’t forget to keep your head up and smile 😊
I love his honest songwriting in "Subtract". Aaron Dessner was the perfect producer to work with. Those are real songs that come from pain and real life experiences. Sad that this record hasn't been well received by the public.
This song really hits in the feels, how someone can put pen to paper and create something so many people can relate to is so mad he is such a one off talent.
As much as I love poppy and happy songs, sometimes you just need an album that understands the challenges and struggles of life and makes you feel less alone in it. This album does that in spades. A masterful work.
first couple of days i was unsure on this album...I thought all the songs were too samey. But the more I listen the more I feel and understand. This is a wonderful album which tells a very realistic story which most people can relate to! Brilliant work
Agreed. I'm ot diminishing his achievements because his happy and poppy songs do very well and they should. He deserves all the recognition that he gets. I'm just not a huge fan of it. It feels like those songs lack the soul that these albums do. So to get something like this again after those vibe change songs brings me back to why I loved his earlier works all over again and appreciate the new for giving that same emotion with a new updated feel to it. Immediately liked this song the second it started going.
I pray whoever eyes catch this comment God gives you the strength you need to overcome every battle you’re facing. May the dark thoughts and overthinking, the doubt exit your mind right now. May certainty replace confusion. May peace and calmness fill in your life... ❤🙏
Everybody, happiness isn’t the point of the album. Ed made all of these songs about the grief and hard times he’s been going through. As Ed’s wife, Cherry, discovered a tumour in her arm whilst pregnant with Jupiter. Also, his best friend, Jamal, suddenly passed away as of February 2022. I’m so proud of Ed to be able to release his deepest thoughts to the world. The documentary, the album, the deep meanings in each song. Whenever you listen you listen to subtract, think about the hard times Ed’s been going through. ❤❤
Your songs are not just music and words, there's stories in the background that gives them so much sense. One day my friend asked me "why do you love Ed Sheeran's song?" and I answered "Go check it by yourself and you'll understand." He searched for your songs and now he is a big fan.
End of Youth. I never really felt like an adult until the last few years. When heavy life stuff just starts happening. And it really hit me that this obviously happens to everyone, it doesn’t matter what age you are. Friends of mine lost parents when they were teenagers, and they became adults instantly from the pure real life nature of grief. And I feel like grief, depression, anxiety, just ends youth and playfulness, because its so real, and so final, so all encompassing. This is the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over. - Ed Sheeran
Honestly, this is one of the best songs I’ve EVER Heard! The message, the beat, the vocals, the construction, how it grows and how it doesn’t stop from beginning to end. I am astonished. I am happily surprised. I LOVE YOU ED SHEERAN
I lost my closest friend when I was 30 years old and pregnant with my daughter. She died (as an adult) of a childhood cancer. I listened to this album with a knot in my throat, i almost couldnt breathe. Ed has captured the good memories and the pain of loss so well. The line in End of Youth "when love is real there's never closure" is so touching. You never stop mourning the loss. This album is special because it speaks on experiences that very few people are willing or able to open up about. I am with the rest of the world hoping Ed finds healing and gets some rest.
I'm so sorry to hear you went through these things. Thats the beautiful thing about music. Even if it seems to make you even MORE sad it's also somewhat of a relief to feel that someone else relates to the pain you're going through and puts it into words for you
It says something that his music is sad after becoming a father. There is something so retrospective about becoming a parent. You say goodbye to your youth and then shift so they have a wonderful world around them. It’s a beautiful melancholy.
I lost my best friend of 20 years shortly before this album was released and it'd been the only thing that's helped me cope. I can't listen to this song without breaking down.
Lyrics: I've been depressed since you left Tried to fill the hole with wine Stopped the drugs when she came Cleaned my act up overnight If you reach with no reply I'll see you when I see you, man You can't talk me through the fall If we don't know if I can land Tried to grow, but the past It tears me down to size Tell the world how to process But don't take the same advice Half remember what I say Then the morning's filled with fear Can't get a handle on my grief When every memory turns to tears It's been a long year and we're not even halfway there Is this the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over? I just don't know if I can ever just let it go Everything's falling apart When love is real, there's never closure I guess it's all part of life But I can't help but feel low We spend our youth with arms and hearts wide open And then the dark gets in and that's the end of youth I've been lost since the teens but pretend it's all alright All my ups led to falls that led to trying to end my life Just a boy at the start, they lent on like a man You were meant to be my friend and not to take all that you can Disengaged to create, try to re-invent the wheel No one knows what they want, so I just give you what I feel If I slip and get high I know the low is always near When I'm down I never see you, when I'm up you all appear It's been a long year and we're not even halfway there Is this the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over? I can't relate any more to this song ,I can't stop listening to it on repeat ❤ It's just so marvellous that our Ed calls himself"Just a simple man with a guitar" but writes masterpieces that all the folks can relate to❤
I lost my mum when I was 12 years old. I'm 34 now and I've only just found the perfect words for my grief. ❤️ The day she died a part my childhood also died, when that darkness touches you it really is the end of youth. And that pain is forever with you, it accompanies you throughout your life, quite like in the video of eyes closed. Just a beautiful Album 💜 not a single song that doesn't touch your soul ❤️

It almost sounds like he's saying and that's the end of you. I was 11 when i started listening to Ed. I was bullied and lonely. Today I am 25. 2020 gave me my beautiful son, the following year PTSD and grief. His songs help me get through my day when I dont think I can, they always have, they always will. It is not the end of me, or us, just the beginning. Thank you Ed ♡
I relate to this a lot. I, too found Ed when I was eleven and lonely. Now I‘m sixteen and life‘s starting to look a little better… He’s got me through all of it. Much love to you :)
I was 13 when I found Ed Sheeran, I myself was bullied and lonely, I'm 23 now and last year I met this guy I fell in love with.. I dated him for almost a year, it was a very toxic relationship.. this relationship gave me mental issues, including ptsd.. he's in jail now cuz I had no other choice but to call the cops cuz he hit me and it was a very bad situation.. and honestly this album hits right in my feelings especially this song and the song curtains
This is so relateable, especially when he sings "I've been lost since the teens, but pretend it's all alright All my ups led to falls that led to trying to end my life Just a boy at the start, they lent on like a man You were meant to be my friend and not to take all that you can"
I hope Ed is doing well and I hope he can realy live a happy life he deserves to be happy. I love his music sooo much. It touches me in a way no other artist has. I THANK YOU ED FOR HELPING ME PROCESS ALL OF THe pain, heartbreak and loss I have endured my entire life.
theory: the kid version of ed at the very end is him saying that while other kids were out playing on the playground he was standing there with his world falling apart... and then they all leave showing how alone he felt when he was forced to grow up faster than everyone else. duuuudeeeee hits deep! I love when artists look at there past as an adult and write songs that relate to the younger generation. thank you so much ed! just turned 18 and everything hit me all at once this year. I'm so glad others can relate.
Ed Sheeran inspired me to go all in with my music. He was once just like me, an artist trying to get heard. And now he’s on on top. It’s happening for me, and Im not stopping when it does! 🧡
My dad died in 2018 when I was 24 I'm 29 now and it has gotten even harder. Makes me miss the days of primary school and highschool and having no worries in the world. Grief makes you grow up fast and see the word for what it is. It's always been around but love protects us from it.
such a heartwrecking album, it just touches something deep in the core! such a complete artist and beautiful soul, i hope things are better for him now
Hi everyone. Ed Sheeran our youth lives on for someone like me 70 years old. Especially, when I hear such amazing talent, like you. Your Parents are so proud of your success. You are a revolution to the music industry. 🎶🎶
This song really hits home. It makes me think of how my mom was diagnosed with cancer during my last year of high school and then passed 2 years later. That innocent bubble of youth that I was in popped and you’re never the same again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful for my life, but 19 years later I still miss her terribly and I don’t think my heart will ever be fully healed.
My mum passed over 20 years ago some days even now it still hurts I’m old I cannot imagine how it must feel to loose your mum so young. Wishing you peace
This guy is just easy for me to root for. He is just humble, and a real human being that is down to earth. The whole lawsuit thing he had to deal with, and his response was 💯.
The raw vulnerability of this album is heartbreakingly beautiful, Ed. It resonates not only with my heart and soul but those of thousands, millions. What a courageous, brave and honorable moment for you. Thank you for sharing your pain through your talent with us. Big love to you and those closest to you. We are so lucky. Humbly, Jessica.
Growing up is harder than I ever imagined. At the point in my life when our loved ones, family and friends start to pass away! It's soul crushing pain!
I have loved your songs sine I first heard them, but I think that End of Youth, and all of the other songs in the Subtract Album have related to me so much. All of these songs have given me so much comfort to know that such big artists also feel the same feelings as I do. Thank you so much Ed, I love your music! ❤
You were there in my teens, now and forever. You are there, when there's no one else. Thank you for everything you did for me.❤ You will always be my answer, when someone asks what music i like.🐻
We're these walking souls longing our youth and childhood. So happy that Ed highlight this is in a song, trying to show we all understand each other and feel the same. ❤
Agree it stands out sharply from the rest of the track list. I stopped working to listen closer. Beautiful melody and message. This is the Ed we know and he’s been suffering the past few years. Honesty sounds good.
"Just a man with a guitar" the most powerful words from a singer whose touched millions of hearts with every word of his song, Ed Sheeran you're music is so touching and I am very thankful to have grown up with your music from 6th grade! God bless that you have won that case and continue to write beautiful hymns of songs from your amazing heart! You're amazing!
This song puts into words how I have felt ever since my dad passed away when I was 12. I've never felt the same since, always felt that I was different from my friends and classmates throughout school. I would still laugh and play and have fun, but at the end of the days it's still not the same. Even as an adult now, I can still feel it. Thank you Ed, for writing this beautiful piece of art.
I've been listening to this song a lot lately. My parents are moving to another state and they've sold the house I grew up in. I had a stable job but they've cut my hours so I'm effectively working part time and I'm struggling with money for the first time in my life. "It's been a long year and we're not even half way there."
after watching Ed Sheeran's series on Disney, I can feel more the weight and lyrics of each song on the album, he put his feelings in the songs he was very brave to expose what he really feels inside, go ahead Ed🧡💚💙❤️💛
When he broke down at the funeral and just sobbed in the car my heart broke. I had recently lost my best friend as well and I felt his pain so intensely.
For me this represents my bestfriend passing and how I'm having a hard time continuing on without her while everyone moves on & things just will NEVER be the same.
This whole album is something wholesome in itself. Thank you Ed, honestly. It’s therapeutic for me. You’re a special humbled person with unmeasurable humility & talent. Also how do you look 20/21 again? 😂 We love you Ed ❤
Ed, thank you for this Album. Listening to your songs feels like having a heart to heart with a friend who simply understands and makes you feel that you are not alone. And sometimes it´s all we need.
This is typical Ed. Melody, riff, exquisite lyrics that hit so hard and perfectly pertain to whatever human emotion you're currently going through. What a rare gem that shines on every occasion. An absolute benefit to human existence. Thank you, kindly, sir.
This track honestly is just really just one of my favorite songs Ed has released and just a massive highlight on his Subtract album with the lyrics on here being so emotion, relatable and great and i just absolutly loved this song overall
@@CollinsLihiga It's been a rough journey tbh. I'm doing all the things I should be doing to cope (therapy, reaching out to my friends, journaling, music, crying...) but I still feel so empty inside without him. I feel cheated. Everyday is different in the grief game and I can't remember the last time I genuinely felt ok. I feel like I can't really enjoy something because he's not here and I can't share it with him or I feel like what's the point. Apathy is something I've been introduced to and I feel like I don't know how to shake it. Before my dad died I had this natural optimism bursting to be shared and now I can't remember that feeling. Thank you for allowing me this space to share. Nobody has checked in on me, in a while. It means a lot coming from a complete stranger. Much love to you ♥️
"You were meant to be my friend & not take all that you can" "when I'm down u wasn't near, when I'm up that's when you all appear" he spittin on this one fr EDWARRRRD 😤😭
May be the End Of Many People's Youth, but it's the beginning for them in an endless catalogue of the greatest songs by Ed Sheeran. IT will never be the end for the fans to support you💪🥳
Ed Sheeran is a huge inspiration for me and my music. He was once just like me. And now he’s on on top. It’s happening for me, and Im not stopping when it does! 🧡
ok i dont appreciate the comments spamming thing, if that's actually true, but i listened to your "the town" and it's pretty rad i gotta admit. keep it up and you'll find your audience even without such methods.
I performed give me love at a talent show and won and the news paper wrote the caption "Eswatini's own Ed Sheeran, I've loved Ed since the first time I heard him ❤
Wow, Ed Sheeran never fails to amaze me with his talent! This music video is absolutely stunning, from the beautiful cinematography to Ed's incredible vocals and lyrics. The way he tells a story through his music is truly special and makes me feel so many emotions. It's no wonder he's become one of the biggest names in the music industry. Keep making amazing music, Ed!
Out of all the songs on the album, this one hit me the hardest. When I first heard it, some of the lyrics sounded so sad that I wondered if he had suicidal thoughts because he says “I’ve been lost since the teens but pretend it’s all alright. All my ups led to falls that led to trying to end my life” Plus, this is maybe far-fetched but the colour for suicide awareness is yellow which is also the album’s colour. I was just in tears afterwards. It makes me so sad to think some people out there feel like that. Someone I know attempted suicide when they were 18 and to me it seems unbelievable that they would want to do that because they have always been one of the most important and amazing people in my life and I wouldn’t be who I am if it weren’t for them.
"Is this the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over?" "When love is real, there’s never closure" these lines! Nice song Ed!
Let go of your past so you can receive the blessing that god has in store for you

Yesss. This song has very strong and powerful meaning. I hope someone will do violin cover for this song.
Ed has the talent of the singers of 80's

Exactly. But also scary that so many people can relate. Life isn’t easy at all
By letting the heart bleed and going deep in the mind comes to life greatest change and realization. music like this is rare because it is raw
Being very in touch with your emotions
"When I’m down I never see you, when I’m up you all appear" hits hard 💔

Lyrics:
I've been depressed since you left
Tried to fill the hole with wine
Stopped the drugs when she came
Cleaned my act up overnight
If you reach with no reply
I'll see you when I see you, man
You can't talk me through the fall
If we don't know if I can land
Tried to grow, but the past
It tears me down to size
Tell the world how to process
But don't take the same advice
Half remember what I say
Then the morning's filled with fear
Can't get a handle on my grief
When every memory turns to tears
It's been a long year and we're not even halfway there
Is this the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over?
I just don't know if I can ever just let it go
Everything's falling apart
When love is real, there's never closure
I guess it's all part of life
But I can't help but feel low
We spend our youth with arms and hearts wide open
And then the dark gets in and that's the end of youth
I've been lost since the teens but pretend it's all alright
All my ups led to falls that led to trying to end my life
Just a boy at the start, they lent on like a man
You were meant to be my friend and not to take all that you can
Disengaged to create, try to re-invent the wheel
No one knows what they want, so I just give you what I feel
If I slip and get high I know the low is always near
When I'm down I never see you, when I'm up you all appear
It's been a long year and we're not even halfway there
Is this the ending of our youth when pain starts taking over?
I just don't know if I can ever just let it go

I guess it's all part of life, but I can't help but feel low
We spend our youth with arms and hearts wide open
And then the dark gets in and that's the end of youth
We spend our youth with arms and hearts wide open
And then the dark gets in and that's the end of youth
It almost sounds like he's saying and that's the end of you.
I was 11 when i started listening to Ed. I was bullied and lonely. Today I am 25. 2020 gave me my beautiful son, the following year PTSD and grief. His songs help me get through my day when I dont think I can, they always have, they always will.
It is not the end of me, or us, just the beginning.
Thank you Ed ♡
I relate to this a lot.
I, too found Ed when I was eleven and lonely. Now I‘m sixteen and life‘s starting to look a little better…
He’s got me through all of it.
Ed Heals 🎸
This is so relateable, especially when he sings
"I've been lost since the teens, but pretend it's all alright
All my ups led to falls that led to trying to end my life
Just a boy at the start, they lent on like a man
You were meant to be my friend and not to take all that you can"
I hope Ed is doing well and I hope he can realy live a happy life he deserves to be happy. I love his music sooo much. It touches me in a way no other artist has. I THANK YOU ED FOR HELPING ME PROCESS ALL OF THe pain, heartbreak and loss I have endured my entire life.
Does Ed Sheeran ever get tired of Excellence?! He is a hell of a brilliant and magnificent Singer, OMG!!!!
Such a beautiful song. Expresses the cyclical nature of trauma and grief. I grew up with DV and I think I'll be healing for the rest of my life.
“It’s been a long year and we’re not even halfway there” I know exactly how this line feels 🧡
theory: the kid version of ed at the very end is him saying that while other kids were out playing on the playground he was standing there with his world falling apart... and then they all leave showing how alone he felt when he was forced to grow up faster than everyone else. duuuudeeeee hits deep!
going to check yours ^^
Nice to see you here mate love your music
I’ve been following you You Youngorange for a few years ! Love your music Keep going!
I had your channel on another tab to listen to until I noticed you have spammed all his videos with this same comment. So yeah, no thanks
The best song of the album, this is song is perfect.
My dad died in 2018 when I was 24 I'm 29 now and it has gotten even harder. Makes me miss the days of primary school and highschool and having no worries in the world. Grief makes you grow up fast and see the word for what it is. It's always been around but love protects us from it.
Lost my mom June 24th to cancer. This song.... Hits different
I just can't stop crying. This is a masterpiece, the whole album is full of pain, with hints of vulnerability and deep love. Never stop making music❤
such a heartwrecking album, it just touches something deep in the core! such a complete artist and beautiful soul, i hope things are better for him now
No it’s not stop it
Sad music so it's not getting well

I love your opinion❤
My mum passed over 20 years ago some days even now it still hurts I’m old I cannot imagine how it must feel to loose your mum so young. Wishing you peace
She was the end of my youth the last time I felt love without pain before the beginning of the end
This guy is just easy for me to root for. He is just humble, and a real human being that is down to earth. The whole lawsuit thing he had to deal with, and his response was 💯.
Remembered. Let it go with wonders that will go and come through with memories.
Absolutely! Love you so much Ed! 🩷🤍🥰💕🫶
So relatable❤
You were there in my teens, now and forever. You are there, when there's no one else. Thank you for everything you did for me.❤ You will always be my answer, when someone asks what music i like.🐻
No. This one hit 𝘸𝘢𝘺 too hard
We're these walking souls longing our youth and childhood. So happy that Ed highlight this is in a song, trying to show we all understand each other and feel the same. ❤
“You were meant to be my friend and not to take all that you can” 1:46 😢
Not only is this the best song in the new album but I think this might be one of Ed Sheeran’s best songs period. Beautiful song.
Agree it stands out sharply from the rest of the track list. I stopped working to listen closer. Beautiful melody and message. This is the Ed we know and he’s been suffering the past few years. Honesty sounds good.
I agree
"Just a man with a guitar" the most powerful words from a singer whose touched millions of hearts with every word of his song, Ed Sheeran you're music is so touching and I am very thankful to have grown up with your music from 6th grade! God bless that you have won that case and continue to write beautiful hymns of songs from your amazing heart! You're amazing!
This song hits soo hard. 😢
Its true every thing is falling apart some times😣
Pretty much how getting old feels 😢 Leave it to Ed to sing the pain so masterfully 🎵🎶💔
Hello how are you doing today??
He's pure and honest talent. I love story tellers, and it's rare to be blessed with Ed Sheeran's life stories. Thank you Ed.
So simple but so deep. We all have such emotions and feelings now and then, which brings us closer to this music.
This song just hits hard.
The entire album has got a great connection with most people's lives
The music is SPEAKING to the soul loud
Much love from Uganda😊🇺🇬🇺🇬🇺🇬
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🇺🇬🇺🇬🔥🔥
Same mate❤
It’s impossible to pick a favorite, this whole album is soo good 😊
This song puts into words how I have felt ever since my dad passed away when I was 12. I've never felt the same since, always felt that I was different from my friends and classmates throughout school. I would still laugh and play and have fun, but at the end of the days it's still not the same. Even as an adult now, I can still feel it. Thank you Ed, for writing this beautiful piece of art.
❤❤❤ I feel your pain... "When love is real, there’s never closure"... Stay strong, life is worth living!..
I've been listening to this song a lot lately. My parents are moving to another state and they've sold the house I grew up in. I had a stable job but they've cut my hours so I'm effectively working part time and I'm struggling with money for the first time in my life. "It's been a long year and we're not even half way there."
Ed Sheeran brand name .... A highest music video and writing the music in the 🌎
Welcome to the new world let go of yourself and you hit the sweet spot god bless Ed
You were blessed with your voice
Keep singing for the world
after watching Ed Sheeran's series on Disney, I can feel more the weight and lyrics of each song on the album, he put his feelings in the songs he was very brave to expose what he really feels inside, go ahead Ed🧡💚💙❤️💛
When he broke down at the funeral and just sobbed in the car my heart broke. I had recently lost my best friend as well and I felt his pain so intensely.
@@ctlan3554 I'm very sorry😥💔
For me this represents my bestfriend passing and how I'm having a hard time continuing on without her while everyone moves on & things just will NEVER be the same.
This whole album is something wholesome in itself. Thank you Ed, honestly. It’s therapeutic for me. You’re a special humbled person with unmeasurable humility & talent. Also how do you look 20/21 again? 😂 We love you Ed ❤
🎉 so amazing
He has a wonderful talent. I really enjoyed all his songs
My favourite subtract song !
If anyone ever asks what does grief feel like. This song is it.
Agreed Stacey!
Reminds me of the big blue 🔵 bear in "Eyes closed" ☺️💛
Im knocking on 70 and lived through some amazing artists. But this guy has got to be the best singer song writer ever
Ed is the GOAT of his genre.❤
Ed, thank you for this Album. Listening to your songs feels like having a heart to heart with a friend who simply understands and makes you feel that you are not alone. And sometimes it´s all we need.
ufffffff Ed again!!!!
This album is gonna do so much healing to the world we live in and the pain many have been suffering from
It's more than a song. Just love it and feel it
This is typical Ed. Melody, riff, exquisite lyrics that hit so hard and perfectly pertain to whatever human emotion you're currently going through. What a rare gem that shines on every occasion. An absolute benefit to human existence. Thank you, kindly, sir.
what else you can do well. for yourself and for them.
Every line is 😭😭 I cant help crying throughout the song 😭😭 This really hits me. 😭😭😭
Hello how are you doing??
This track honestly is just really just one of my favorite songs Ed has released and just a massive highlight on his Subtract album with the lyrics on here being so emotion, relatable and great and i just absolutly loved this song overall
I lost my dad unexpectedly 7 months ago. This album is saving my life. ❤
Sorry for your loss. How are you coping?
Much love to you ♥️
Much love to you too and thank you for sharing that with me.
"You were meant to be my friend & not take all that you can"
"when I'm down u wasn't near, when I'm up that's when you all appear" he spittin on this one fr EDWARRRRD 😤😭
May be the End Of Many People's Youth, but it's the beginning for them in an endless catalogue of the greatest songs by Ed Sheeran.
IT will never be the end for the fans to support you💪🥳
So sad we're growing old day in day out but life must go on
Ed Sheeran is a huge inspiration for me and my music. He was once just like me. And now he’s on on top. It’s happening for me, and Im not stopping when it does! 🧡
🤝🏻🫂
Dudes spamming this comment on every video lol the dedication
@@joeswift13 think I saw a similar comment on a different singers video
ok i dont appreciate the comments spamming thing, if that's actually true, but i listened to your "the town" and it's pretty rad i gotta admit.
keep it up and you'll find your audience even without such methods.
In no man's decision a lady makes it difficult easy. I have a poem... in the future
I've been looking for a song that could accurately describe how it's been like for me to grieve my mom. Two years later, but...damn, this is it.
'Thinking Out Loud' was a Masterpiece!
Every single song on this album is a masterpiece to grif, lost, and learning through the pain to move on and find maybe happiness
I know every Ed song since he started. Every syllable. Every album is amazing, but this is his best. Even better than + and x
Love from France
why don’t more people like this song, it’s so deep and meaningful 😢
The 1st half of life is about expansion. The 2nd half is about contracting. One giant breath of life.
Your music honestly help me get by it’s crazy
King of pop 🎸🔥
