That's because they're more driven by defending their territory than by hunger.
This outcome would never happen in real life since the pyranhas would have kept distance with a healthy fish this size instead, but this forced excess of proximity pushed them to bite as a defensive response to stress. When the fish is half dead it's not seen as a threat anymore.

      @@MarchVision-g3t heres my 4 scenario:
      1. While an arapaima is a formidable predator, 30 piranhas working together can overwhelm it with their sheer numbers. The piranhas can attack from multiple angles, increasing the chances of inflicting serious injuries on the arapaima.
      2. Piranhas are known for their aggressive feeding behavior, especially when they sense blood in the water or when they encounter a weakened or injured prey. In this scenario, if the arapaima is unable to fend off the initial attacks from the piranhas, it could trigger a feeding frenzy. During a feeding frenzy, the piranhas become highly frenetic and inflict rapid, continuous bites on the prey, causing severe damage.
      3. Although arapaimas have protective scales, they still have vulnerable areas, such as the eyes, gills, and undersides. The coordinated attacks from the piranhas can target these weak points, potentially impairing the arapaima's ability to defend itself effectively.
      4. Piranhas are generally more agile and maneuverable compared to the larger arapaima. They can dart in and out, making it challenging for the arapaima to defend against multiple attackers simultaneously.
But in nature, they up to a hundred or more in one group.
