I heard this song last night on the Peaky Blinders and realized I hadn't heard it since i was a little girl. I instantly remembered the lyrics and was reminded of my father playing it for me. I love it and you sang it quite beautifully.
When I saw this song in Peaky Blinders, I knew it. Took me a while to remember my mum playing the Irish Rovers as a kid. Your version is the most beautiful I've ever heard. Thank you.
Wow just wow . This song cut me to pieces and resustated me at the same time . Most wonderful version ever and iv heard them all . You poured emotion into this and it came spilling out . You must have had some pain in your years to deliver this master piece . Thank you so much for this. It's blown me away wow again thanks your super talented
My mom's absolute favorite and one close to my heart to play live. From one musician to another? You"ve made the song your own, and my hat is off to you!! Absolutely going to share this with every musician I know!
Let me put the lyrics for you guys In a neat little town they call Belfast Apprentice to a trade I was bound And many's an hour's sweet happiness Have I spent in this neat little town. A sad misfortune came over me Which caused me to stray from the land Far away from my friends and relations Betrayed by the black velvet band. Her eyes they shone like diamonds I thought her the queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulders Tied up with a black velvet band. I took a stroll down Broadway Meaning not long for to stay When who should I meet but this pretty fair maid Came a traipsing along the highway She was both fair and handsome Her neck it was just like a swans' And her hair is hung over her shoulder Tied up with a black velvet band. Her eyes they shone like diamonds I thought her the queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulders Tied up with a black velvet band. I took a stroll with this pretty fair maid And the gentleman passing us by Well I knew she meant the doing of him By the look in her roguish black eye A gold watch she took from his pocket And placed it right into my hand And the very first thing I said was Bad 'cess to the black velvet band. Her eyes they shone like diamonds I thought her the queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulders Tied up with a black velvet band. Before the judge and the jury Next morning I had to appear And the judge he said to me 'Young man Your case is proven clear' We'll give you seven years penal servitude To be spent far away from the land Far away from your friends and companions Betrayed by the black velvet band. Her eyes they shone like diamonds I thought her the queen of the land And her hair hung over her shoulders Tied up with a black velvet band.
That's a classic, so it is well done. I just came across your channel. How about covering the town I loved so well or Molly Malone? There are just so many great Irish songs. I just spent over two months going back home to visit my family and heard the black velvet band sung in so many pubs. I really enjoyed your cover cheers.
I've lost count how many times I've listened to this...absolutely beautiful...when I get disheartened trying to play this on violin, I put put it aside and play your lovely rendition...Love it
I didn't think I could love this song anymore than I do but wow, amazing cover! Would love to hear you play/sing an accoustic Dermot Kennedy song. *subscribes*
when my grandad who was a salior with the merchant marines and later a fisherman in Boston (he came from Wexford around 1929) and long story short he met my oma who didn't speak a lick of english (she was German/ Swedesh) but they fell in love nonetheless and the way he taught her english was singing songs like this and Wild Mountain Thyme, Wild Rover, Whiskey in the Jar Finniegans Wake and of course songs he heard saling like leave her johnny and Haul away joe so when they moved to San Pedro in 1960 they had both my uncles and aunt then in 68 my dad and when i was born in 93 i grew up with these songs Great job can you cover Shoals of Herring ?
Greetings, and many thanks for your lovely wee tale and as an aul ageing sailor from Belfast myself this wee tune has always been a particularly favourite of mine but now along with your story about your Grandfather and Grandmother it brought me close to tears. So, really, thanks cos I remember being a sailor and rocking up in port of some place, and of course, no one spoke English why would they, but somehow we always managed. Sometimes, language and words only get in the way of the camaraderie and companionship. This song will always remind me of the growing up during the troubles in Northern Ireland and makes me so happy because it was always playing when everyone was enjoying themselves and letting their hair down which wasn't that often at that time. So it makes me remember people making the most of life because who knows what tomorrow will bring and now I will always think of your granda and granny trying to learn English by listening to Irish traditional music and that gives me a smile so agin thank you and sorry I got a bit carried away here.
Saying I find a pinch of magic in your voice, it's an excessive compliment? I do not usually like feminine voices in songs, since I prefer grave voices, but that voice you have, simply wow.
And so, all my young lads, please take warning by me. Whenever you’re out on the town, me boys, beware of those pretty Colleens. They’ll fill you up with liquor, until you can no longer stand. And the very next thing that you see, me boys, is the landscape of Van Diemen’s Land!
My wife is a scott Irish from belfast. She had cardiac issues from birth. She needed surgery and survived. Wr had a party in celebration and I sang 😅this song.😊1:26 1:30
Hi David, I don't have it on a platform for you to buy, but if you were to find a way to download it i have no problem with that. Thanks again for the blog post :)
I wish they had dubbed your voice over Grace's in Peaky Blinders because she butchered this song. I came here to hear what it should actually sound like and you did not dissapoint. Absolutely beautiful.
I'm really happy that you interpreted such a great song. But still, I think your voice is way too high for it. Maybe you should try it one key lower. Unfortunately, it really doesn't sound good like that, as sorry as I am. But still, good song choice!

The Black Velvet Band didn’t need a Megan Fox cover.
Please do a green fields of France or a dirty old town cover! Love all these covers
I’ll see what I can do, thanks so much!!
I liked it but, you missed an entire verse at the end!?!?!? The best one!?!!?
缺點就是太漂亮了

Go gorl - hrmm woman. Im sorry.
I'm really happy that you interpreted such a great song. But still, I think your voice is way too high for it. Maybe you should try it one key lower.
Unfortunately, it really doesn't sound good like that, as sorry as I am. But still, good song choice!
She can barely open her eyes because her fake eye lashes are so heavy! LOL
How to make a man cry
Would u bleed for the cause?
Or is it all for the likes?
Beautiful....
Thank you so much David!
