In this period, the Legion uses super-hypnosis to block Superboy's memories of events from his personal future that he learns in the 30th century. He has a post-hypnotic suggestion so that he doesn't remember them when he goes back to the past. This is how he can meet and interact with Supergirl as Superboy and still be surprised when he meets her again as Superman. There's a story about this in the 1970s where the post-hypnotic suggestion starts to break down, and Superboy becomes resistant to further memory wiping to preserve things, leading to a long-ish term exile from the Legion.

I did find that out after I made the video. It seems like a pretty crazy plot contrivance. I seem to remember early on that the Legion was specifically attempting to not have Superboy and Supergirl meet. Someday I might revisit my videos and check. There was something involved with the Super pets where they didn't want Superboy to see Streaky.

It's not "attempted murder" if he's sending them into the Phantom Zone and knows it.

Good point. I guess we could call it eternal capture since apparently you don't age in the Phantom Zone. Still, I think it would merit a minimum of a few decades in prison.
