@@wellfuck13579 I guess I would be kinda cool if it helped them get more big names on the pod later on down the road, but I honestly think I kinda prefer it with other similar youtubers as guests, plus Mike Rowe seems like kind of a douche the more you look in to him. Btw I know this would almost certainly never happen, I’m just speaking hypothetically.
This is a "dirty truth" to Mike Rowe because he is ignorant and sarcastic. The reality is that safety is the responsibility of line supervision / management. All the time . . . every day. This is why supervisors and managers who allow employees to be seriously hurt or killed can be put in prison. So the boat Captain can say one thing, but at the end of the day, he could lose his business, get fined, and go to jail. There's no room to debate this. It's the simple truth. I am a CSP / CIH with a long work history in construction, industry, and yes . . . even maritime.
Mike, a guy named Bill Whittle did a video with this theme as well. Innovation doesn't take place if safety is always paramount but it is always in mind.
My life motto has been safety 3rd for decades. Sort of a silly statement but also that we have to do things. If safety is most important we wouldn't leave the safety of home.
I agree with Mike Rowe. There are too may occasions that "Safety First" mentality gets in the way of just doing the job with common sense. Work hard, Hustle harder, and Kill everything.
@@Danilows No, you know, if he gets injured or killed, he will do everything to sue the most out of the company. Like that republican governor who shilled to slash regulations on attraction parks and limit possible compensations on people in his state, but once his son got decapitated, went to a fucking texas to sue the park owner for millions.
I remember someone telling me about a workplace in Texas, which has a sign that said "you have the right, and the responsibility, to a safe work environment". I hate safety theater; the banners, hoopla, stupid virtue signaling...
Yup. Such a sign implies that your safety is primarily the responsibility of your employer, or some other agency when all they can really do is mitigate risk. The responsibility for safety ultimately depends on the individual.
We got to the insane safety requirements from a historical lack of ethical people in positions of power. That is a tough thing to imagine we fixed along the line.
Me thinks, if there's no producers around and your life is just your life... It would naturally be safety first but for MGMT. What makes work? What makes dirty? What makes a soul and the fractal of free will we're currently and continuously imploding and exploding into?
The guy that was the safety consultant for our company a few years ago started every safety meeting with this line. How important is your safety to you?
The reason "safety first" is a thing is so practices are put in place not to save just the individual but also any bystanders (or product) the "safety third" worker may unintentionally damage, or worse. If your employer practices "safety third", get the hell out.
Rule 1. Look cool/good Rule 2. Camera / Gopro ON Rule 3. Have fun Rule 4. Safety. Why? Because you need to look good and if the camera/gopro is not ON you cant record yourself having fun which means it didnt happen. Last, be safe lol
I like the philosophical principal of this, however, if safety is a personal responsibility, why not just say, "safety first - it's on you." "Safety 3rd" is a very poetic notion that contradicts what it's trying to say.
But why someone get complacent that SOME ONE is taking care of his safety during job....all those big safety banners are there just to tell that take care of urself....
Fused to your eyes? I'll bet it was when that farrier's forge was lit, and flames shot out the side with you staring at it. You seemed none the worse for wear in that episode; did you need to go to a hospital to have them removed?
Mike, can I have your address? I have a cell phone from 1994 that has a better camera than this video I want to send you. :) Joking aside, yes, just yes. Imagine that, people taking responsibility for their actions. Excellent video!
William Osman approve of this
Oh my god is that why I saw this 😂
Mike Rowe do safety 3rd podcast. Like. Comment.

Ok
"it's not my job to get you home, it's to get you rich"! Reason why bottom of the bering sea is littered with crab boats
I just searched “Mike Rowe Safety Third” and was disappointed to find out this is not a book. Love your stuff.
Not a book.. it's a podcast.

That's the truth... repeating the mantra doesn't help, you're your own best hero and first responder. Training, fun & safety.
A motto of mine is "I try to think harder than I work". I figure my brain will probably outlast my back.
Mike, a guy named Bill Whittle did a video with this theme as well. Innovation doesn't take place if safety is always paramount but it is always in mind.
Man O Man .. Truer words have never been spoken ✌️💪😉 Thnx to the Captain and You 👊

Work hard, Hustle harder, and Kill everything.
Including you?
Sounds like you didn't understand a fucking word he said

1. Profit.
2. Expedience.
3. Safety.
Thanks for the list! I came here explicitly to hear what was second and was about to be disappointed.
Here because of the Safety Third podcast

Nice vid, left me wondering two things - what comes first and second, and, how do contact lenses fuse to your eyeballs! Cheers.
I've had the contact issue before. certain chemicals will cause it to happen, it my case it was an aerosol spray that I got into my eyes by accident
jake fields wow, sounds terrifying!

Safety is situation awareness, not some outfit that makes it harder to do your job.
Me thinks, if there's no producers around and your life is just your life... It would naturally be safety first but for MGMT. What makes work? What makes dirty? What makes a soul and the fractal of free will we're currently and continuously imploding and exploding into?

Aka "look both ways before you cross the street, even if it's a one way"
I see people driving the wrong direction on one-ways all the time : )
I'm sure the good folks at British Petroleum that were in charge of deep water horizon approve of this message
The reason "safety first" is a thing is so practices are put in place not to save just the individual but also any bystanders (or product) the "safety third" worker may unintentionally damage, or worse. If your employer practices "safety third", get the hell out.
Could this be edited to include a title screen? Or improve visual quality if possible (I realize probably not)
How does this only have 132k views...
my job sent me here...and I like it
Is there a higher resolution version available?
Why was this 4:3 video cropped at 16:9? Now I have huge black bars on all sides when watching fullscreen on my 4:3 display.
Good stuff
Safety 3rd. Fun 1st, style 2nd.
Great content, any way to get a higher resolution copy?
awesome mike!
Safety is staying home. Doesn’t make any profit though.
Five star general? Surely a four star at most since 1981!
Rule 1. Look cool/good
Rule 2. Camera / Gopro ON
Rule 3. Have fun
Rule 4. Safety.
Why?
Because you need to look good and if the camera/gopro is not ON you cant record yourself having fun which means it didnt happen. Last, be safe lol
I loved this

I'm watching just cause your so friggin handsome 😜 oh and I LOVE Dirty Jobs I live it.
Well you are pretty too
Bro you look similar to my stepdad/the Usonan Bundeskanzler
How can safety come first when the guy always comes first?
Fused to your eyes? I'll bet it was when that farrier's forge was lit, and flames shot out the side with you staring at it. You seemed none the worse for wear in that episode; did you need to go to a hospital to have them removed?

NAIL HEAD HIT..
Motto of Black Rock City
Can you explain this again for the dumb people like me?
Excellent points Mike, but a very, very rare error of grammar by mr. Rowe -- "... that somebody, somewhere cares more about my well being than ME."
This man is not part of the muscular class
Mike, can I have your address? I have a cell phone from 1994 that has a better camera than this video I want to send you. :)

turbo2ltr taking responsibility for your actions!? What year is it 1991?
Production budget is the 4th step of a video
Comment deleted... I just realized no one cares what the hell I think.
Bad
...and yet we still see traces of "where's your reflective belt?" in the uniform nazi's lexicon. My modern DoD brethren know what I'm saying.
Well Top Gear has taught me that nothing bad can possibly happen to you if you're wearing a high-visibility jacket.
