I also wanna point out that his airport outfit was supposed to be flashy and not very him, this was stated by the costume designers I'm pretty sure.
Kinda strange that he's flying to California in somewhat of a facade which Argyle points out at the airport

I’m totally on board with Mike being gay, and I absolutely am loving all the byler analysis!
I was wondering whether or not mike’s clothing is intentionally mirroring the gay male flag, as this flag has only been around since 2019. Considering this, do you think the directors are aware of the flag? 🤔

A lot of the costume department is LGBT+ themselves so I’m pretty sure they would be aware. We only started seeing gay male flag imagery with Mike specifically in season 4 which was filmed in 2020. Before that he was paired with rainbows primarily.

@@arundhuti1444 It's the vest he's wearing his whole time in the Upside Down. When Eleven mind-visits him in episode 7 you can see him wearing it, and when Joyce and Hopper rescue him in episode 8 too. Basically any Will-in-the-Upside-Down scene he has it on I think.
