Literally what happened to me. The game doesn't feel awful to play anymore because of the amazing runelite plugins + all the quality of life updates they've done over the years. I've played osrs more this year than i did for the 5 years i played as a kid
@@AliUguz probably one of the few games on mobile that doesn't have p2p wall at every turn. (No need to mention bonds as it's far too different from gems/progress timers/cooldowns etc etc.) Mobile brought so many players.
3000+ total and 2000+ total here. They’re both good games if you love runescape. Technically Rs3 is the closest game to your favorite game if you love osrs.
Fact is Old School Runescape isn't popular because it's "Old School", it's popular because it's Runescape, and unlike "Runescape 3" doesn't suffer from an identity crisis. OSRS knows what kind of game it is and is proud of it while the other version has spent decades desperately trying to be something else to appeal to new people and failing.
What you said is true, I used to be a Halo content creator because I loved the original trilogy, it changed it's identity and me and almost everyone hated it. The game died, purely because it neglected it's core audience, and this is the case with a lot of the older franchises, and this also goes beyond just the gaming industry but also media/show/movies.

Nostalgia would be logging on for an hour and not touching the game for the next year, but every player has something they enjoy doing on RuneScape, raids pvm pvp skilling clues c logs. oda when a world of warcraft expansion comes out, if you buy it you get a character boost to the same level the previous max was, so If dlc 1 max is 50, and dlx 2 max is 60, your brand new character can start at level 50 and play only the new stuff

You're correct. Gold is worthless, one good money maker bot could make 20 to 80 cents an hour, its a lot of setup to get it rolling and accounts get banned frequently. You need to run dozens at the same time and babysit that shit for a while to setup the account. Not worth it imo. Unless u cant work because you're disabled or something its nonsense nowadays.

Wow bots are ruthless. They'll mass report you for cutting in on their turf. They also have adaptive AI chat that simulate human interaction pretty well. They also hack the game for an unfair advantage and mostly go unseen because of it. They put osrs bots to shame

Yea i can say with confidence back in the day bots for sure existed but you didnt see them nearly as often. People usually botted skills for themselves instead of doing it as a job back in the day the i remember noticing green dragon bots and thats about it
I do agree that if I didn't grow up with Runescape, I probably wouldn't be playing it today. But that doesn't always mean nostalgia is playing a factor. Sure, nostalgia is what brought me back initially, but it sure as hell isn't what kept me coming back. What kept me coming back was the fact that this is a big comfort game for me. That, and most of the updates were super good along with having a dev team that actually gives a shit.

The content creation community is what has kept me around. Hell, I quit for 4 years and it was Odablock's videos that fostered the urge for me to play again.
It's very hard to play even osrs as a nostalgia factor. I played the very original classic days. Like 01 days. That hole can never ever be replaced or fulfilled. I truly miss those days but they were terrifyingly tough and had no forgiveness for mistakes and super grindy and that's what I'm liking right now coming back to osrs. It is more grindy than rs3 with all the bonus XP and lamps and other stuff that is basically buyable

I don't even think "nostalgia" is the right word. I played RS from 2003-2011 and during the 2008-2010 era I still "played" but I really disliked the changes, graphics, mtx, certain content etc.. I had just quit prior to EOC, I actually am a big fan of EOC because OSRS likely would have never came to us without it.. but the game was on a steep decline way before EOC. Anyway, to me rather than nostalgia bringing me back, it was the fact that the game I loved was essentially removing the features I disliked. I still loved RS, just not the path it took.

tons of rogue lites have hundreds of hours of gameplay for people. depending how you look at it its just the same simplicity that gets people imho
