My most requested recipe is my pecan praline bits, which my grandmother used to make. I make 20 pounds of these every Christmas for gifts. Here is the recipe: mix 1/2 cup of heavy cream, 1 cup of packed brown sugar, a teaspoon of pure vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Add 4 cups of pecan halves. Mix until well coated. Spread on two large cookies sheets LINED WITH PARCHMENT PAPER. Bake for about 20 minutes in a 350 degree oven, convection setting is preferable. Stir the nuts after about 10 minutes, then after 5 minutes, then watch them so they don't burn. Store them in an airtight container. ***The key is watching them the last 5 minutes. They should look dry, but don't let them burn. People start asking for these before Thanksgiving!!!

    • @midlifemom5829
      @midlifemom5829 9 месяцев назад

Is the bake time for convection? Would it be longer for regular baking?

    • @cindynau8068
      @cindynau8068 9 месяцев назад

If baking in a non-convection oven, just keep checking and stirring the nuts the last 5 minutes. You want them to look dry but not too dark.

I don't have one that's passed down but my kids really liked this:
    1) Saute onion and yellow squash - carmelize (can add zuchini) - add a bit of soy sauce.
    2) Add cooked brown rice and mix well
    3) Cover with cheddar cheese - put lid on and melt.
The caramelized veggies give this dish a surprisingly good flavor. ❤

Dry farmed means they don’t water the grapes. They grow just from the rain. My favorite family recipe is my great grandmas shortbread.
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup butter (room temp)
2 to 2 1/4 cup flour (you want a crumbly texture)
Put it all in a good processor (or use a pastry cutter)
Press firmly into a 9x9 pan and use a fork to score it every half inch or so. Bake at 300 for 50-60 min. You want to bake till it barely turns brown.
Got the recipe engraved on a cutting board in my grandmas handwriting as a Christmas present for my mom a few years ago. It’s the best!

It isn't really a recipe but in all honestly, my uncle taught me this. It is Rice Pilaf like you never had it before. You cook 1 box of Uncle Ben's long and wild rice. (It has to be this rice) Then once it is done add sour cream to taste some freshly sauteed sliced portabello mushrooms. (Tim's favorite) and there you have it. Honestly, everyone used to come to my house for this. I still make it and everyone asks for it when they come over. Sometimes the simplest stuff is really good.

Both of my parents were amazing cooks, so it's surprising now that I think of it, that I don't have any recipes that have been handed down. My dad made a great tuna casserole that used no canned soup, that I used to take to every pot luck, but I've somehow misplaced the recipe and I'm so sad that I can't find it. I mostly remember the ingredients, so I think I'll have to experiment to see if I can figure it out again.
My most requested recipe is Jalapeno Poppers. I use 30-40 jalapenos, halved with seeds/ribs removed, 2 blocks of cream cheese, softened, about 2 cups (just eyeballing) of shredded sharp cheddar and a pound of bacon. Traditionally, the cream cheese and cheddar are mixed up, scooped into the jalapeno halves and wrapped with bacon. I like to chop the bacon, fry it up then add the bits into the cream cheese, cheddar mix. Scoop the mix into each jalapeno half and bake at 375 for about 20-25 minutes. When the bacon is wrapped around the pepper, it often pulls off with the first bite. My way, you get bacon in each bite. There was a time when I couldn't show up to a party without these poppers. They were my mother-in-law's absolute favorite and I actually gave her a full batch for Mother's Day one year. I hadn't made them since last summer, then got a request from my nephew to make them for his birthday party a couple of weeks ago.

One box yellow cake mix, 2 eggs, 3-4 overripe bananas, 1 cup choc chips ( can add nuts if want to ). Mix together bake at 350 35-40 min . Hopefully my son will keep it going. Thx for the taste test !😊

My mom makes a fruit compote to go with spiral ham. It’s cold and refreshing paired with the salty ham. It’s just some cranberries shopped apples and pears with sugar and a fresh squeezed orange. Boil over to stove and once soft let it sit on the stove off the heat for a bit to thicken up. Add in some cinnamon and cardamom. Cardamom is a must to bring it all together.

Thanks for the review and Tim, thanks for being brave. The handed down recipe I make every Thanksgiving in my grandmother's stuffing. It's unusual in that it's made with mashed potatoes and bread. If you google Pennsylvania Dutch stuffing, you'll find a bunch of recipes for it. The other one I make all the time is my mother's pumpkin bread. This makes two big loaves and it freezes perfectly. I half the recipe all the time and it works great.
    Pumpkin Bread
    5 1/2 c flour
    2t baking soda
    1 1/2 t cinnamon
    1t nutmeg
    3c sugar
    1 c of oil
    2/3 c cold water
    4 beaten eggs
    2 c pumpkin
    1 cup walnut (optional)
Combine the dry ingredients then make a well and add the wet ingredients. Bake in two well greased loaf pan for 1 hr and 15 minutes at 350. Test to make sure it's baked through and add five minutes if needed.

Both my dad and mom were / are great cooks! So many cod dishes and a sort of Portuguese Sheppard pie my dad perfected. Sadly I am not really great nor have their energy to cook everyday but a lot of the stuff was not written down, so it may be lost! Sometimes I see some youtubers share “my parents” recipes and it fills me up with joy! I honestly don’t know how they did it raising three children, having a big house that was always spotless clean, being present and always cooking everyday. We would go a whole month without repeating meals and yes all my friends loved to eat at my house. No idea how they made it!!! ❤

I’m so happy that Tim and I share the same recipe! I grew up on meat and potatoes and it’s hard to break the comfort food habit. I grew up with aldente spaghetti, butter and salt and always had meatballs or meat sauce or sausage and jar sauce on the side with sprinkles Parmesan and still make it sometimes. I grew up with Ronzoni and Prego but use other brands now. I also love scrambled eggs with mustard, a childhood favorite.

My father was a wonderful cook and made a lot of excellent dishes, however, it was all done by eye and taste. No recipes. My sister and I picked up what we could and our dishes are tweaked to our taste so they are similar but not exact. He wouldn't let us in the kitchen while he cooked so we had to learn from afar.
I have 5 children and they all learned to cook pretty much the same way. I don't measure unless I'm baking. My dishes that they love are my stuffing, red cabbage, my vegetable lasagna and my lobster bisque.

I also put sour cream around the pasta so I mixed the sour cream with the spaghetti sauce and then I would just take a bite of basically the pasta with the butter the cheese the sour cream and the spaghetti sauce. That was my favorite way to eat spaghetti! I would end up making it for all kinds of people cuz they really ended up loving it that way, so it became one of my signature things I would make :-)

Yeah Tim, you nuked that 😂 it’s burnt. It’s super hot here in Texas so I get a tiny counter oven so we don’t turn the big one on. The tiny ovens work better for breads instead of air fryers.

Mine would be my banana bread. I have been making it for years. I learned how to make it years ago when I went down to Jamaica. Jamaica women would sell it for a dollar on the beach with fresh OJ when we would get out from snorkeling. I asked them one day, and they gave me their yummy recipe. I make it for family, friends, my neighbors. . It is delicious............

Omg I wish I had gotten all of my grandmas recipes before she died. What was written down was on grease splatterd abbreviated index cards. But she had the best mandelbrott, gefilte fish, honey cake or date cake, and her dairy and parve noodle kugels. I know there are a bajillion Ashkenazi jewish recipes out there but her food was so good when she could cook. I always loved cooking and baking with her when I was growing up. I didn’t answer last weeks question because it felt like I would be giving too much personal information in the comments and that made me feel weird. But I wanted to answer it.

Cheesecake (handed down from mother-in-law). She made me promise to not give it to anyone. But, it is delicious. I just took 2 pies to a going away to college party and everyone came up to me to tell me how delicious it was! I kinda like being able to bake this - it makes me think of her because she is no longer with us. But what a great hand me down that makes me happy to make it.

It always makes me sad when the older generation is so secretive about recipes. Theyre meant to be shared and enjoyed otherwise one day they will just disappear. My family has lost so many recipes this way because grandma or aunt whatever kept her recipe secret.

Dry farm wines have no sugar, all natural, lower alcohol and are supposed to be healthier. Also, supposedly they don't cause hangovers. I don't know, I never drink that much.

I'm from Lancaster County, PA and Hershey's Baking Cocoa was a staple growing up. Here's the BEST fudge recipe U will EVER taste!
    Grandma's Hershey Fudge
    3 c Sugar
    2/3 c Hershey's Baking Cocoa
    1/8 tsp Salt
    1 1/2 c Evaporated milk
    1/4 c Butter
    1 tsp Vanilla
Add sugar, cocoa, salt&milk to pot and stir w/wooden spoon together over med high to a boil, quit stirring and let temp come up to 235-240 or soft ball stage. Pull off heat and add butter and vanilla, no stirring and let cool to 110. Add nuts then stir to lose glossiness about 2 mins, transfer to foil lined 8X8 pan. Let cool completely and take out of pan, cut and enjoy!!❤

Great taste test!! Lemon Supreme Pound Cake. Passed down from my late husband's grandmother. I usually make around 15 between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most family members want it for their gifts 😊 I like to adk a question. What is the name of the song at the beginning and end of your video?

  • @melindablunk613

Love the taste test! Unfortunately, my grandma’s chocolate cake recipe is secret. It’s made for our birthdays. And she makes this frosting that uses coffee grounds and tastes like a jamocha shake. Then the other one would be her tea ring we make at Easter. You make the dough. You roll it out. You butter it and then you top it off with a cinnamon and brown sugar mixture and and chopped walnuts. Then you roll it up and you put it in a Bundt cake pan or something like that. Then you make a maraschino cherry glaze and add some maraschino cherries on top. It’s to die for.
