I actually loved that we didn’t get answers to some of the parents’ dilemmas. Made it feel like we are just passing by, like a fly (or ghost) on the wall at that moment in time. Overall enjoyed it but I agree that the blonde teenage character brought the third act down a peg
I can see why some would like that, maybe it's because I wasn't a fan of where the plot actually went so I wish they had elaborated more on that other stuff instead
I just got out of this. Horribly mismarketed but I liked the movie a lot. I don't watch trailers anymore, I just saw this pop up on my AMC app so I went to check it out. Then I watched the trailer after I got home (just now). I personally think studios should be unable to mismarket their movies to this degree. I understand that making trailers is an artform, therefore up to interpretation, but this is egregious. There needs to be a law stopping studios from mismarketing their movies to this degree. But that being said, I actually do love the movie. I'll watch it again. They went to some dark places where even I was kind of taken by surprise by. I like it when movies treat their audience like they're actual adults. It's rated R and we actually got some R rated stuff.
I guess the quotes in the trailer were legitimate so I can’t really blame them for including them, but yeah I can’t condone what is pretty clearly intentional misrepresentation
I never saw any trailers and just happened to see the movie on AMCs app today. I’m an A list member so I thought I’d give it a try. It was good, I was anxious the whole movie and I thought they executed the premise well.
@@bibibutten you could be right, it felt as though there was more to it though. Perhaps movies have conditioned us into expecting there would be more to it but in real life it's not so exciting?
I thought the closet was a bit of a red herring I was thinking chloe was going to hang herself in the closet and it was her as the ghost but then ryan made me change that to him being the cause of her death
I never thought it was a jumpscare horror movie from watching the trailer. It looked more like a psyhological horror thriller/suspenseful mystery to me. I'm not into jumpscare horror movies...they are predictable and kinda same old same old. So, 'Presence' piques my interest and I will be watching it, knowing it's not your typical jumpscare horror film.
Just came from a screenin, loved it but shared exactly your frustrations about the parents' disappearing subplot. Sadly the horror-skewed trailers will only hurt people's reactions to it.
I am so glad I was able to see it before the trailers. It's got tension in places but horror is not a word I will be using when telling friends about it.

This isn’t out for me until next week however I’m looking forward to this. I do like Sodenbergh’s other films.

for me i think the parents subplot has something to do with the mother maybe pulling some sketchy strings to get the son into a good school

This was great and a great start to "horror" in 2025 not conventional horror but the themes in it and where it goes is definetly horror.
It definitely deals with themes typical for horror, glad you enjoyed it

It's not just about jump scares, I wouldn't classify it as horror period, or even a thriller. But yes, check it out if it interests you of course.
It's not horror at all. Like, at all. It's not The Witch, Hereditary or Babadook "Elevated horror". It's just plain not horror lol.
