SOCCER PLAYERS DON'T NEED EXTRA CONDITIONING ON TOP OF PRACTICE

  • During the season, soccer players should not be run through extra conditioning before or after practice. It wastes tactical/technical time, increases injury risk, and gives girls diminishing performance returns because MOST girls are weak and don't strength train enough for their muscles to even handle this.
    If soccer players feel "out of shape" or "not conditioned" they should do FOUR OTHER THINGS first before adding extra conditioning. It's not ALWAYS a lack of conditioning issue.

    Important discussion. I'd like to see you and Dr Sean Omara on the same podcast. He really emphasizes sprinting and nutrition in his messaging about performance, longevity and quality of life. btw, good interview from the No Carb Life.

    Thanks for the great video!
    I highly suggest fitboxing for aspiring soccer players. First, it gets you to cardio max quickly, and efficiently, so it improves in-game recovery, without risk of muscle injury. It teaches you where your limits are, and how your body reacts.
    Secondly, it engages whole body coordination to generate power. Surprisingly, the punching helps to educate your body about your arms’ role in power generation for kicking. It also develops weak side coordination, getting dozens of reps, which are isolated from ball play, so have less distraction. Would love to hear your thoughts/experience/knowledge about that!

    Really helpful. My daughter is now eating much more healthy. This is what I told her. Eat well and healthy, train properly, and your body weight will settle were it is suppose to. Don't focus on weight.

    Fantastic information. I’m learning from and can share with my players and parents
    I would like to include speed training within my football/soccer practices. We have 2 sessions a week. Ihr 30min on pitch . Plus 15min Strength session at the end of training

    Great podcast! Definitely a video coaches should watch. Does this information also apply to male athletes (U14-U17)?

      Thank you! Applies to all athletes, all team sports. Conditioning can be accomplished within small sided and sport practice design for best use of time. Outside of that, players need strength, speed, and dial in nutrition.
