Growing up in the early 1990s, this was definitely one of my favorite death metal bands of all time! Not only did you nail the song but you’ve got the tone! Excellent job and great playing!

+Danny Cynic Is there any way you could provide lead tabs for James Murphy's leads? His leads can be a pain in the ass to play sometimes. He's one of my biggest influences on lead guitar and I would like to see accurate tabs of his lead work. Also, do you know what Obituary used to get the brutal guitar tone on Cause of Death? Amps, guitars,, pickups, effect, the whole deal? I have been looking to nail that guitar sound ever since that album was released. Thick, heavy, and brutal, yet with note clarity and it doesn't get muddy like so many bands that use ultra high gain tones. It's one of my favorites, along with S.O.D.s tone on Speak English or Die and Ministry's Psalm 69.
I think rolling the tone knob down on your guitar may have some effect on that type of tone, since it takes the highs out of the tone. I tried it years ago and I thought that it gave a good Obituary style tone, but I primarily play standard tuning rock type stuff, and I haven't tried it since years ago. I know this is an old comment, but try it out if you are still interested.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I read somewhere online years ago (don't remember where) that Obituary's classic guitar tone may have had the tone knob rolled down a bit to give it that "muddy" sound. (not the volume knob) I tried it years ago and I remember that it seemed close to their tone, but I haven't done it since then, so I don't know if my memory is hazy on that. Good solid cover here btw.
In an interview they said they have Tone knob all the way down and in D or drop D I can’t exactly remember.
@@zanehakim7684 Gotcha. Rolling off the tone knob does give a similar sludgy tone to Obituary's. It's an interesting approach, I never would have thought to roll the tone knob down like that!
Bro's, it's D standard and yes, you can roll off the tone knob or even switch to front pickup for the main rhythm thick sound
@@THRASHMETALFUNRIFFS Yeah it's D but my experience is that with the knobs on 10 it won't really sound like Obituary's tone. Still too much mids/treble or something, even with the low tuning. But roll it down and it comes very close. I haven't tried it in quite some time actually, and can't remember if I tried the neck pickup for this sound.

+Vigorious Venom You absolutely don't have to have long fingers to play guitar well. I have fairly small hands and I don't have long fingers. I have been playing death metal and black metal for 27 years. When I was younger I played in bands that toured and people payed to get in to see (not anyone famous you would probably have heard of, but still). I play fast, I play aggressively, and I play lead. I don't play in bands anymore because, you know, career, bills, etc... but still enjoy playing at home as much as possible.
