@patriceavril and everyone that are mad that they couldnt "afford" this album. i talked to Casey about it, he just said go pirate. so there. also one of my favorites. so powerful.
For everyone complaining about the music sharing deal... this is a great system that Casey has built. The dedicated, donating fans are rewarded with physical copies of the EP, and the rest of us still get to hear it. Apparently that's not enough for the ones who think that the $125 buys them the right to keep it from everyone else. Sad thing is even some of us poor fuckers are feeling too guilty to enjoy the music in full. Thanks for posting this though, they definitely haven't lost their touch!
I just read on a forum that Casey is a Lost fan, so I think there's no doubt that the title of the song is a reference to Benjamin. The song itself doesn't seem to be about him, but considering it's about a liar, it makes sense to name the song after him.
I don't have a citation to back this up but I've been told that casey apparently said it was ok if people wanted to torrent the branches EP. again, though, this is anecdotal at best. take that how you will
@patriceavril People didn't pay $100 for this 3-song EP... they paid for a lifetime membership with major other benefits. If this being up here brings 50 more fans to TDH each of whom attend their shows and buy their future CDs, pretty sure Casey would be glad.
@sherlockmwm Benjamin Linus is a main character on the TV series LOST. Isabelle is also supposed to be based off the character from LOST. I haven't gotten far enough is the series to really know who Isabelle is, but B. Linus is the main antagonist of the show.
@sc12sf "the act of withholding these songs in that manner is a complete break in the relationship between artist and audience" i see what you mean here, but if you look at it at the point of view of the members, it strengthens the artist/audience relationship. those who are truly dedicated have been rewarded.
Razia's shadow had some great songs, but there was a lot of room for improvement. For instance, the narrations between the songs shouldn't have been so forcefully rhymed. That always kinda bugged me. But Missing Piece is boss.
So, I think that spending U$ 150.00 in this lifetime membership just to listen to the songs was a little too much. If I could go to the gigs (for free to lifetime members), or see Casey perform in my town, then probably yeah, I would buy it. Not to mention that many pay sites do not accpet credit cards from outside the USA. So, thank you so much for uploading.
@patriceavril I read an interview once where Casey said he didn't really care if people downloaded his music. He said as long as people were hearing and digging it he was ok with not getting more money out of it.
Benjamin Linus is a character on Lost. I don't watch it but I had a friend of mine who did try and see if there's a connection between the two; seems like there isn't.
Dear Hunter is so good. I'm unable to find the connection to these lyrics and Benjamin Linus. Can anyone explain it without spoiling anything? (I'm like half way through season 3)
@sam9008 Well. if Casey really wanted to make a lot of money out of these songs, he would sell them regularly, instead of making them limited products. By choosing to sell only 250 copies, technically he made all the money he intended to make when he sold his 250th copy. Yes, it's illegal. But no, we are not making the guy lose his money. I would actually buy them if I could.
The thing is: music is an intelectual product, not a physical one. So, crafting and selling got really messed up since the internet arrived. Casey made TDH after the Napster, and many otner following P2P protocols. He KNOWS that music will be shared. If he realy didn't want thit to happen, he would at least try to put some DRM on the files. If I could, I'd have bought the lifetime mebership. And I couldn't even if he decided so sell 1,000 more today, because I live in a different continent.
@patriceavril I only just read this. My only response is that the people who payed $100 for this didn't do it for 3 songs, they did it for the full package. All I want to do is listen to some music from one of my favourite bands. Will you begrudge me this?
shut up "patriceavril" take your loads of money elsewhere and let us listen to this godly music in peace. amazing dear hunter. if it wasnt for this kid who upleaded this i would never had heard it and i just dont think life would be the same
I would agree with 250 tickets to a concert experience that featured the "Lifetime Fan Pack" assortment....rarity of the EVENT rather than "manufactured rarity" for manufactured things....the act of withholding these songs in that manner is a complete break in the relationship between artist and audience, and I know my feelings toward TDH definitely changed when I found out I couldn't hear these. Did we ever need to have our appreciation measured by money or time, even as competition?
Real artists care about their art getting to the people who enjoy it. See The Polish Ambassador. Puts all his music for free download and still is extremely successful. Art is not about suckling a cash teat. Yes, the artists need money, and that will get to them one way or another if they manage everything correctly.
@keethgreen 125 bucks is not loads of money. you're helping support a band. stealing Casey's music is fine to you because you didnt want to have to pay the money to get it, but you wanted it anyway. There's a reason Casey sent this music to Lifetime Members and not everyone. However you choose to justify stealing TDH music is your thing. Everyone is happy because they get to hear it, but don't realize that wasn't the intention. It's already done though...so have fun with it.
I really wish they would do more stuff outside of the silly concept arc they're going for. This is great and manages to be more artistic while coming across as less pretentious.
The God of music gave all of his wondrous power to this man.
so incredible they have to be some of the greatest of all time
it's impossible to ever get sick of the dear hunter

As a massive fan who simply couldnt afford the fan package at the time, I thank you.
I think the uploader did the world a noble deed. Why deprive the less fortunate of such pure musical talent?
This is my theme song.

Had he not uploaded this, it would have been a crime for my ears to never hear it.
I like this EP alot. Thanks for uploading.

Yes, it's true, it had been stated on a Q&A in the "Lake And The River" forum.

LOVE THIS SONG!!!
Hey HelloScarecrows, Any chance you could upload the Acoustic Versions of 1878 and A Sua Voz?
