Not to mention there are so many questions and issues this evil Alicorn, a PHYSICAL Alicorn, unlike Sunny, even existing brings up.
Granted, it does prove Sawtooth Waves's theory that ANYPONY can become one, evil or good, but where has this evil Alicorn been all this time and, if she knew ponies needed to be in harmony for magic to return and is therefore fully aware magic will go away again when harmony is ended after she enacts whatever evil plan she has in mind... how does she not see that is a massive flaw in whatever her evil plan is?

That, and it was forced in your face in a very artificial way, too. I personally think that they should put story as the priority with lesson following instead of the other way around. It's like they forgot how to do storylines properly, like they did in G4.

I had a hard time watching it because oh how weirdly saturated the movie was compared to the previous one , like it feels like they unnecessarily cracked up the saturation, but also how most the conversations feel weirdly robotic and empty. They also completely changed the voice cast so it sounds even weirder. It just pales in comparison to the first if we talk about natural flowing conversation, as well as character development. It was so hard to watch this cause it felt so many different kinds of wrong.

Was mentioned in another video within the MLP community, but the difference in animation saturation might be due to the lighting engine being downscaled or used improperly. The models look like they've been ripped straight from the movie, you can see the detailing in Zipp's feathers as she flies, save for a few changes like Izzy's hair (which is likely also due to budget as it is a particle effect that costs more to render the longer it is). It's a long video, but if you want to learn more I'd recommend DJTHED's video. He's a 3D modeller and animator that has worked on the G5 game.
To me, the animation looks messy and all over the place. It was generally hard to watch
It's absolutely the fault of whoever thought it was a good idea to hire the other actors in the first place, who have recognizable faces and were definitely not on the budget long term
I couldn't get past the first few minutes due to the animation being horrendous. If you watch the wider shots, as one pony is talking and moving they may have most of the movie counterparts movements and mannerisms, but the rest that aren't the active pony in the shot or dialogue, they end up having very little movement.
With 3d animation, you don't animate all of the characters or assets at the same time, you do them separately using separate models and setting key frames that way. Its very basic animation knowledge to know the character's mannerisms and general behaviour before you animate them, because it sticks out like a sore thumb when you don't, especially when they're preexisting like in this case.
It's clear that the animators haven't done that and seeing as it's meant to follow on from the movie directly, its even more noticeable. Take into account that shots with one pony only have much better range in movements, it tells me either it was rushed, or whoever was hired never worked with 3d animation software before.
I have seen better fan animations that included at least breathing or some natural movement like shifting weight and following movement of other characters.
I know what you mean about the saturation, its like a different animation software was used and it couldn't produce the same colours. Or someone was eyeballing it and thought good enough without considering lighting, I've been caught out that way before when drawing, thinking I have the right colour and when I eyedropper the colour it was way off.
Can we just talk about how god damn ugly the backgrounds and the animation is? It’s so gray and the city feels abandoned. In gen 4, all of the city locations were filled with pony’s in the background like an actual city and it felt so alive and thriving. Here, it’s the complete oposite. Gen 5 already looks like a mess and it’s only put into existence because…money😒
Funfact: horse hooves are, in fact, pretty heat-resistant. Some people prefer to prep horse's hooves for shoeing by desinfecting them with red-hot metal horseshoe, causing absolutly zero pain whatsoever.
What bothers me most about G5 in general is that there is absolutly no reason why it is connected with G4 other than using G4s popularity to sell it.
When I saw the storm rising in the climax I hoped for some G4 continuity, like the Windigos appearing due to the tribes hatred to one another. Instead we get a weird void that isn´t explained *at all* . The same with the magic, which goes completly against what G4 established. I mean even when they fought an actual civil war amongs the races, they still had their respectiv magic and they probably had it before they even knew there were other pony races. I don´t kow if this gets explained in later episodes, but for me it makes absolutly no sense why magic is now completly tied to friendship and no friendship means no magic, while friendship in G4 only acted as sort of a catalyst to combine/strenghen their magic.
G5 would be way better if they either made it a completly new universe with new rules or if they had some actual continuety instead of only dropping the mane 6 names/cutie-marks a few times and show what´s basicly just easter-eggs without any purpose.
Exactly especially since they have completely undone the work of the mane 6 which would be so much less frustrating if it were a different world
@@Pandie2828 To be fair, it took Chrysalis just a few rumours to plunge the whole of Canterlot into a full on race war, while the Mane 6 were still around. So it wouldn´t be too unexpected that over a few centuries they would forget all about Friendship, after the Mane 6 stopped beeing around.

If i recall right, according to that the races started to fight again, due some underlying discourse cause by a mysterious unicorn. Due to that Twilight (for some reason) decided to seal magic in an artifact and it would only give everyone their magic back if they got along.
@@DizzyDoduo I didn't read the comic and I think such a mayor plotpoint should also be introduced in the mainshow, especialy since hasbro made clear that the comics aren't canon in the cartoon and are to be treated as seperat universes.
@@unnamed1613 that's the G4 comics the G5 comics are definitely cannon. Hell they even showed what happened to Canterlot and even discord shows up.

Too many subplots.

It is true, "Make Your Mark" has it's flaws and some things could've been done better. but it was still a fun special to watch and i kinda can't wait to find out the story of that new Alicorn villain just as i can't wait to see what kind of story arcs the new dragon Sparky Sparkeroni will have as the series continues.

Imo, these are the two things that bothered me most
1. The animation was weird and VERY oversaturated. I had to turn my brightness down to watch the movie
2. They didn't even try to make Izzy's new VA sound like her old one. Maybe they shouldn't hire a celebrity with a unique voice and then immediately not rehire them if they actually wanted to convince anyone

There's one line that I find off. "Maretime Bay used to be the place just us earth ponies lived. Just like how unicorns ALWAYS lived in Bridlewood, and pegasi NEVER left Zephyr Heights"
I'm certain not ALL of them lived in ONLY those three places. Can't wait to see a full map of this evolved Equestria so we can be sure.
I also kinda hate how when the magic fails, the pegasi just plummet like there was NO wind lifting them at all.
actually this is accurate. from when we first join the g5 era the 3 races were segregated and did not traverse to the other lands.
maretime bay WAS exclusive to earth ponies. Zephyr to pegasus and unicorns to the forest. they didnt leave their set lands

Maybe Sunny got a massive payout from her insurance plus an out-of-court settlement from Canterlogic since it was Canterlogic tech which destroy her house? Plus the mane cast literally has two princess in it so they're not exactly all typical working class ponies in the first place.
Whats bothering me is that they gave sunny stage fright as if in the movie she didnt jump in front of the canterlogic meeting to talk to the whole town and did that multiple times like- she has no issue with public speaking why was she so nervous to talk on a stream
To help you understand: The speech in the movie was planned. The livestream, on the other hoof, wasn’t planned, as Pipp literally just went, “Okay, Sunny! I’m going to start the stream without giving you time to prepare!” So that’s why Sunny hesitated before she spoke.

@@sakurasarchive I used to have a similar thing actually. I love acting and being on stage, but as soon as was staring into a camera lense, I freaked out. Performing in front of a LIVE audience was and is easier for me than being in a video and definitely easier than a live stream. It took a lot of pushing myself to relax on camera.
Pegasi have hollow bones and thinner hair with incredibly strong wings, so their very light compared to your typical 200-1000lb pony. Also of course they would use their hooves to pick up hot objects, there’s no nerve endings it’s basically a giant nail. It doesn’t hurt at all.
The pegasi don’t fly using physics, they fly using magic, so their anatomy wouldn’t need to be all that different unless stated otherwise. The hooves part is true though.

@@torakokoneko In real life there are skydiving simulation machines that use powerful fans to make people fly in place. I think it’s possible in the movie as well.
@6:00 Ah, you missed a sin: they couldn't keep it consistent whether the Posie's mailbox was knocked down or still upright---it was upright in one shot in between Izzy knocking it over and then re-planting it with magic.

Nope. They show how Zipp, Pipp, and Izzy move from their towns to Maretime Bay, they show how they paint and furnish their Crystal Brighthouse. But no explanation where it come from, who built it, etc. Nada.
I literally cried watching the episode last night because how much they wrecked MLPS. The writing is terrible, the 3d models are wonky, the alicorn wings and horn look like fairy plastic for toys, they speak like they're trying to be "lit fam". Like when one of them said "fo sho" i died a little inside. The unicorn is basically a failed pinkie pie, the rainbow dash lookin princess pegasus is at least slightly redeemable but her morives make no sense. The way thw ponies hold things looks like poorly placed magnets. The dragon made me start to bawl my eyes out because of how hideous it was. Also why did the officer pony try to hide the egg? It would have been more interesting having the ponies ooh and ahh over it. The idea was okay but it was too rished. I could go on, but i could be here all day, and i feel depressed and empty about how dumb the episode is. The random cut to a villain? Stupid.

Absolutely agreed, like comparing season 1 of G4 to this it’s just astounding how much the writing has plummeted and the fact that an *episode* of G4 handles the “pony races hate each other” storyline better than 2 movies has made me lose all hope 😞

The animation is the part that made me stop watching within a few minutes. They're animated actions seems to act like emotes from a game. Take Izzy's excited expression from 2:48. It's so stiff, and it just goes back to her being still. From the movie, you would think Izzy would said something like, "Great!" with her little giggle afterwards. But it's just one action that is so bland that just annoyed me. But, in Hasbro's defense, this might've been thier first time making an 3d animated series. I feel though, as they had rushed the animators, because such things like secondary actions are forgotten even though those principles were clearly used in the mlp:FIM. It could've also been due to a lack of study with 3d animation. The amount of time that had passed between the making of Mlp: New Generation and this series was really only a month or two. Not to forget they are also making the youtube animated series (which is animated like gametoons). They weren't given enough time to make the animation smoother, and were possibly paid less wage. Like most animation projects that fall flat, these are the main reasons why. Even the writing, as some people mentioned, is confusing and tasteless. The voice actors are changes apparently, and the characters are practically given different personalities. I could pint out more but I want to watch the rest of the video.

Well I mean the fact Canterlot is the captial of equestria in gen 4 and it's based on Camelot and the fact in gen 4 the majority of the nobility were based on victorian English yeah I think gen 4 Equestria is bassicly Victorian England.

The makeovers were not taking place in the Brighthouse (the McMansion). The scene was set in the Merry Melodies hair salon that was confusing you so much earlier. Oh, and the word you were looking for was "pseudo" (not "sudu"). Izzy is the pseudo Pinkie Pie.
The fact that Moliminous didn't watch the tell your tale series (at least the 10 first episodes) makes me sad :(

Okay so I think I have an explanation as to why unicorns have such a hyperfixation with tea. So unicorns are the mages of the pony universe, which would be a real world parallel to wicca, which is what the majority of magic portrayed in media is based on. In wicca, there is a specific type of magic called tasseomancy, which is the ability to divine the future through the arrangement of tea leaves (think of Professor Trelawney's class in the third Harry Potter film). Another use for tea in witchcraft is to cure various ailments (another HP analogy, think of Neville's skill in herbology), so the combination of the two purposes of tea used for mystical purposes may be a sort of charm to bring about good fortune for the future and to purify the sins of the past.
Or maybe I'm coming up with a bullshit explanation for some random detail which may have absolutely nothing to do with the story 😅

Considering the town probably rebuilt because their prejudice was caused the old one to be destroyed they didn't have to afford it. And although it is nice it is not like it is a palace. Plus twilight uses live in a library.
@@theresahall5141 The RUclips shorts showed they built it themselves, not the town. I suppose they town could have funded it, but it could have also been a combination. The town might have raised as much money as they could and the princesses funded the rest.

It seems this special shows that G5 isn't a sequel to G4, it ignores most of the plot from the movie. Also, where are Sprout and his mom? Neither of them are seen or mentioned in Make Your Mark.

Yeah...I really don't think G5 will ever be nearly as good as G4, and it's downright insulting that it supposedly invalidates everything G4 built up to. Also, the RUclips shorts skip the part where the four fillies collectively decide to live together (with Hitch regularly visiting). As for Posey, she does go back to being racist afterwards, and it's not as if she doesn't have legit gripes.

After how much fun of a ride the movie was, this short was just soooo many levels of bad. It’s so painfully obvious how little their budget was and how many corners they cut in ALL aspects of this.

I guess G5 isn't for everyone. i love it a lot but it does has its flaws like G4 and any other show does. If you like G4 thats okay but dont gen hate. theres a differince between critisism and just outright hateing it. its ment for the next generation anyways.
