I feel like the description of this video and what actually happened does not match. Really Essence just made an appointment at a salon to go get her hair done in Vegas once she got off the plane. She already knew where she was going. I dunno...I was just expecting something more. Also as an aside, I personally cannot stand when two people are working on my hair and do not try to balance each other. Instant headache lol

It has to be planned because they have to get permission to record there and get everyone set up. It would be nice if we got info on how many salons specialized in natural hair in an area. Or maybe show the struggle of finding the salons! Give me more content!

actually there are many asians who have afro/curly hair as well. Probably the tight 4C texture is more linked to African..

This was misleading. She didn't go out totally unplanned. She's just being natural while in Vegas. I don't see the difference with if she goes to the salon before going or as soon as she arrives, specially in such a big city where she could make an appointment that fast in a salon specialised in curly kinky hair...

This happened to me! So I went to Vegas with my hair done. Went to a spa and my treatment came with some kind of hot oil treatment and I didn't realize it! Oh did I mention that I am natural and I got my hair freshly pressed right before the trip! Ahhh! yeah. I was internally freaking out as the oil was running down my scalp. We were only on our first full day of the trip and still had two full days to go! I was like what am I going to do! definitely didn't want to wear my hair in a bun the rest of the trip! We were staying at the Cosmo and surprisingly the DryBar of all places, in the Cosmo, had several black stylist. I was able to make an appointment for that evening and they were able to get me back right! Shout out to the girls at the DryBar Cosmo!
For some reason I find this stuff so weird. I also have curly hair (not comparable to african of course, but it's still a lot and long) and when I travel I just bring some products with me and if it gets dry or frizzy I do a fast refresh. I'm sorry for not really understanding getting your hair done at a salon for a trip. I love the afro style and the curl type💕
I got the impression that she wanted a new hairstyle for the trip instead of doing it as she always does.
That shrinkage after they washed her hair was wild! I have never tried to go to another city with my hair not done. Getting my hair done before a trip is planned ahead just like packing lol.
That's because all the products to get the natural hair to be " curly" is washed out. Females natural hair texture is usually no different than the males in their family. Any race.

This was such a great video! I am caucasian but I have super thick and curly hair, and there is so much pressure to straighten or change my curls. These women were so kind and knowledgeable about hair! I love how they are helping to inspire women to love their natural curls!

Black women have been natural for centuries and I've never seen one with true knowledge of healthy hair growth purposefully comb through their hair/any curly hair while dry or unmoisturized. They were supposed to wet her hair pretty thoroughly, to see her true natural curl pattern, in order to trim where her ends were the most thin, uneven, or frayed..Also that pulling on her hair to shampoo, condition, and 3 people in her hair at one time?!😥 Could've weakened her edges, nape hair, and root shafts. BuzzFeed didn't really represent the more kinky curly hair textures in the best light with this one. Gave me dingy-esque vibes, I'm hoping that was just an act on everyones' part just for the video views?. The most important part of being natural and embracing your true self; Is really knowing your hair, correct self care, and the proper way to take care of/grow your hair no matter what. Sending love and positivity to the ladies of this team and the bloggers....But it is disheartening to see their female commentators/bloggers, just go along with everything, and act peachy all of the time. Honestly, that experience would've weirded me out, having all of those errors occur. Then to have all those different energies massaging all up on my scalp...smh...lol..Kudos to her and the Vegas Style team for spreading love though. @@johannafields2845 It's a bit dry from not moisturizing it enough and I wanna grow it out more, right now it's about 5 inches high (with shrinkage it's at almost 2 inches😭😂). I haven't been taking care of it properly for the past 2 years, but it's realativley healthy and not damaged since I don't use permeant dyes, straighteners, perms, etc (completely natural baby😋☺️). It was way longer years ago before we decided to chop a lot off (it probably would be 10 inches long now😭😆).
If you meant like the style, my mom does most of that (I'm trying to learn from her) and now, I have 5 cornrows upwards, and a mini mohawk in the front

actually many natural hair salons have started cutting natural hair in its dry state.( idk about all that extra combing they did ) They often ask for you to come in with your curls/kinks out/ how you wear it out and dry bc it allows them to properly shape/sculpt ur fro , versus trying to cut our wet hair. The shrinkage is too real so cutting a fro wet will look completely different when its dry. For example, diva curl salons do this (i know everyone hates them now, but thats one example).

I will never complain about how long my hair styling takes! My hair is long but mostly straight with a bit of a wave.
I have 1b hair, but when she said she never deep conditions I was shocked. Similar to my reaction at work when a middle aged woman with type 3 hair had never heard of curly hair products and was using purple shampoo on her brown hair because it "made her curls nice". I instanty recommended her something for her hair type. I work at Sally Beauty.

I'm a white girl training to be a hairdresser and can I just say... you women are so amazing! Where I am I don't think there is a lot of demand, so I haven't worked on natural hair, but I find the precision and the artistry amazing. I'm constantly reading and watching natural hair care stuff, with my barely 2C hair, because I find it so enthralling! I realise that so many people are really disrespectful, intentionally and unintentionally, so as well as talented you ladies are so patient! The versatility is mind blowing! No disrespect intended, all admiration!

I'm confused I thought this was going to be about why black women get their hair done before they go. As in why they wear "protective" styles like braids.
Not sure if Las Vegas is the most accurate place if your going from the angle that you don't know whether there are hair dressers/ stylists if you are going for the "there are limited salons that specialise in black women's hair". Would've made more sense if they went for a place that doesn't have a large black community. Having said that the percentage of African-Americans is ranked 37th in the US (but then again the wiki source I looked at doesn't include all US cities so may not be accurate) 🤷🏼♀️
