It also gives soto experience and “film” for another team to trade for him. Really doesn’t makes sense for a team to trade high draft picks in exchange for a player that hasn’t showed anything.
I think Richie Owens deserves a dev upgrade to star anyway. When you consider that he is already a superstar for this team he would get superstar at the end of the year and it seams the game just don’t want you to be op. Same with Reece.
He wouldn't have gotten to star even if he got the challenge, that wasn't a dev trait upgrade challenge. He would have gotten upgrades to some of his stats, you can trigger that challenge every week if one WR has a ton of yards solo
