Great video, I visited Thomson's house in Bangkok about 25 years ago, a really beautiful place in the heart of Bangkok. I reckon his name was a bit more prominent at that time, probably because of the house being mentioned in travel guides as a place of interest. Bangkok has changed quite a bit since then. Thompson certainly had an eye for Thai art & culture. Anybody interested in traditional Thai art & architecture should visit his house./museum.
The fact that Jim T disappeared without a trace is also evidence that he disappeared himself; or that someone got payback on him. At least equal to the theory that the jungle swallowed him. Interesting to note that it was one Jim T's associates that got me a job teaching English to Royal Thai Air Force cadets in 1970.. Sure, I remember when Pat Pong was just shortcut from Silom over to Suriwong and two low key beer bars -- Pat Pong Cafe and Manos just above. That's all. But across the street was two Indian guys from central casting; one snake charmer with a friendly queen cobra, and an old guy on a bed of nails, who would let me lie on his bed of nails. The trick is getting off of it. Very invigorating.! As a sidebar Pete, I understand you are back in Ireland (or were?), and hoping you get to interview Gemma Dohrecty, an interesting lady in the Irish news matrix. (I probably spelt her name wrong). .
I always been convinced he was involved in some secret society or agency. People don’t disappear like this for no reason.. but who knows?? Such an interesting story! Big up Pete🔝🙏
You are producing great quality content. A few whiners on the comments today. Wonderful to see someone who examines issues deeply. There is nothing like a curious mind!
Just about to watch this video and looking forward to it . When I first went to Thailand 🇹🇭 I got interested in Jim Thompson . There’s a great book I read about him and visited his house in Bangkok . What a guy . A bit of James Bond in him as well as his other qualities
I went to Cameron highlands in 2010. Famous for strawberry plantation. I have been to a Jim Thompson shop somewhere near Phrom Phong and bought a lot of souvenirs for my family but never been to the museum.
For those who enjoy old, traditional Thai architecture, there are 4+ old historical homes in Bangkok one can visit. (You can Google for the information) Also, Ancient Siam, an outdoor museum has a few original teak wood Thai houses and a couple wooden temples. As you know, years ago the wooden structures were put together with pegs, not nails or screw, so it was easy to disassemble these old structures back in the 1960's and move them to this outdoor museum.
I went to his house 20 years ago.. it was May 2004 I think and it was a scorching hot day. It was my first time in Bangkok and probably the first time I'd had to cope with the kind of heat. I remember the house and garden being nice.. but there was also a lot of noise from a local building site and the fact that I felt so done in by the heat made it less enjoyable than it should have been.
What a fantastic tale, I wish I'd lived out there in those romantic days of adventure. My theory is that a man of his character knew his health was gone and could see the miserable future ahead and on the spur of the moment decided to end it there and then. I also think he deliberately took pains to make sure he was never found. A man like that would love to imagine the fantastic theories evolve and thus live on through them. I'd love to hear the story of the Irishman sometime too.
In Cameron Highlands Resort they have an annual event "The Murder Mystery event", kind of cluedo game with real people as characters, walking in Jim Thompson's footsteps (checkout "UNCOVERING THE JIM THOMPSON MYSTERY AT THE CAMERON HIGHLANDS RESORT" malaysian last year blog). Jim Thompson had numerous enemies at the end of his life...I believe in the broken leg accident in the jungle hypothesis. He wandered too far, that's all.
What a intriguing story Pete. I’ve heard about Jim Thompson but never looked deep into his story. However I will read up on him now. I like Charlie’s take on what happen. The mystery will go on . Great chemistry between you and Charlie

It doesn't take a genius to work out he was murdered. Anyone that goes missing and there is no body found obviously indicates foul play. The only question is, who did it and who got control of his assets.
That is more a part of Alexander McDonald's story. McDonald gave the pistol as a gift to the young King who died in the accident. While he has not received as much attention as Thompson, I think McDonald's story is equally interesting.
I think Pete is the best interviewer ever. Other than being a platform for story tellers, which is nice.. Have you ever been out and about and lived a little? C'mon mate, can you show a little character in your "interview/receipt of story. Why are you blogging when you don't live in Thailand? I do like the different backgrounds, stars at night is a good one.. Why not tell your story, too boring??
all of this is pure hearsay and speculation in the case of the missing millionaire. Regarding Patpong, it was our favorite place back in the day. But, one had to be careful due to the upstairs clip joints. Excellent questions, Pete. Love your show.

Loved the museum in Bangkok, beautiful place
Thumbs up 👍 Pete, I knew of Thompson what an amazing dude
I always been convinced he was involved in some secret society or agency. People don’t disappear like this for no reason.. but who knows?? Such an interesting story! Big up Pete🔝🙏
Those of us that have been for a very looooong time know what really happened, cause, we saw him in Hong Kong after the disappearance event! 😁
Why hasn’t there been a movie or documentary about this Man. Jim Thompson? Or this is there ?
Outstanding !! Thanx man !

We all love a mystery and this is one that was never solved! Great interview that analyses several theories.
Ok you just made me plan a trip to his house museum tomorrow, thanks Pete great interview.
You’ll love it buddy
Another great video! I appreciate Charlie's sceptical approach and excellent application of Occam's Razor in examining this unsolved mystery 👍
Pete, what an Interesting Story. Now i know more than before. 🙏
William Warren’s book on Thompson is worth a read if this story interests you.
Liked and shared as I thought this was very interesting. Great video

Yes definitely a few great day trips there
Really interesting story! Great interview thanks 😊

Thank you for this interview. I just bought the book while watching .

Yes, it would have been so much better back then. Way before the internet and UNsocial media and smart phones filming everything, everywhere … 🎉
Great content again Pete 👍 regards Kell
Very interesting story as an American I am finding Bangkok are more interesting than New York City… and thank you for another interesting video
You’re very welcome buddy. Happy exploring
Super Educational. Been to JT house, and even patpong, lol, never knew the background.

I know Jim Thompsons personal assistant! And my friends father in the CIA in Guatemala, was also obsessed with textiles.
Wow any chance you could put me in contact with Jim Thompson’s assistant?
ww2 did not start in Asia.
Japan invaded Manchuria on September 18, 1931; Italy invaded Ethiopia Oct 2, 1935; The Nazis invaded Poland September 1, 1939.
@@TWCH are you saying that 1931 was the beginning of ww2?
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Now investigating.

I saw the guy, just last week, somewhere in the jungle. He was walking arm-in-arm with Elvis.
Was Jeffery Epstein there?
And Jim Morrison 😎
I met my wife in Bangkok. She was working at The Jim Thompson House Museum. She was even in the Miss Jim Thompson pageant. 😅
Love Jim Thompson House. Been there twice
why don't you talk about the many people "disappearing" in Koh Tao?
Pete didn’t come here to take part, he came here to take over!!

Didn't some Irish child go missing in that same jungle a few years ago and was never found?
Did you take down the video of the guy living in the Philippines?
Nope here it is

@@ThairishTimes Thanks I was looking through the thumbnails and could not see his face haha.

But the evidence doesn't point to that, and as Charlie mentioned, Jim was older and in poor health.
Maybe he was the OG Boeing whistleblower
I was disappointed you didn't discuss the pistol and the shooting
What’s that can you explain? It didn’t come up in our research
That is more a part of Alexander McDonald's story. McDonald gave the pistol as a gift to the young King who died in the accident. While he has not received as much attention as Thompson, I think McDonald's story is equally interesting.
He was apparently in ballyfermot rock college some years later, throwing eggs back at the scangers...
Pete, How you can be a member ? 🙏

👍👍👍👍👍👍
So he’s the guy all those golf shops are named for over there. Now I know.
Algo😊
First 🥳
Congratulations. Here's your medal:🎖
Charlie really didn't have anything new to say.
Like many other a good man, he probably new to much.
It's a shame you invested all that time and work only to record him in an echo chamber room
Interesting story and id love to know what exactly happened to him. CIA conspiracy!!
@8:15, U forgot 2 wink brah !! Ha ha !!
Missing out the fact he was homosexual..
Not a fact just another theory
@@ThairishTimes think the evidence is compelling actually...not that that's why he died however
He certainly was a pretty man~

Exactly, we certainly didn’t claim we could solve this mystery. We read books and discussed the main theories
