Good solid presentation. The value of this video & others here is heightened by simple direct instruction. Any who say otherwise make their ignorance of the same blatant!
Holy shit, that upwards jaw thrust is brutal. Think about a solid, open-handed strike (power from the legs/obliques) that fully wraps around your jaw… all your teeth broken, unconscious.
@@TommyMooreww2combatives how do you think fairburn's stuff would hold against modern bjj and muay thai??? Because everyone and their dog know something about mma. And do you think fairburn would have used sparring as pressure testing and if not how would he have done it ????
@@timothygourley5690 O'Neil was a boxer and a very large man. You can see his more in your face, aggressive, front foot style evident in what comes out of his work. Fairbairn is more subtle in a way, but there is huge cross over. I think that shows in the differences in technique choices and ranges they typically employ. Hope that helps!
@@timothygourley5690 Fairbairn was a big believer in pressure testing. In shooting and unarmed. A big part of his work was milling. Which is essentially a big heavy aggressive spar, focused on the offense. So not a tactical spar, or competition style fight. But a short, sharp, horrible burst of contact training. How would it fare against MMA and BJJ? Probably poorly if that's all you knew. But both of those require time and dedication to get results. Time that would be better spent for these people learning to shoot, receive, use morse code, pick locks etc. If Fairbairn were alive today, I'm sure he'd love having a mooch through today's systems. He was a consummate martial artist and a lover of Judo, Kung Fu, Ju Jitsu and many more styles besides. I'm sure he'd have approved. Today of course we don't have to choose, we can explore Defendu, BJJ, MMA and whatever else we want depending on what we enjoy and find the most useful to us.
Have you done a video of elbow strikes and blocks? And while doing that, after putting your elbow up for defence for the assailant, how to get yourself in a position of a follow on strike/pull/knee combo. Type thing? I am just learning about the use of elbows to upper cut as well as putting them up to take a face punch instead of the face
Tommy, you're not taking into account that when you kick a guy in the groin he's going to keel over if you've done it right. So for the "face smash" his head will be at a different level, or he could be keeled over on the ground if you have ruptured his testicles.
Hi fella, sadly until lockdown ends it’s me and mr Bob. Unfortunately he doesn’t articulate for me! But when doing solo pad drills, I make sure to get that pad moving to different levels in response to varying stimuli. But you’re quite right to point it out 👍

May I ask, what credentials do you have in training Defendu. Who taught you, where did you learn. My grandad was a trainer in the British army who taught this.
No problem fella. My core background is in Boxing, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Kali etc. Whilst I learned some Defendu style material from my grandad, much of my work is inspired from people like Lee Morrison, Kelly McCann, Cestari, Liverpool Gutterfighters etc and what I get from my own experimentation and insight and the massive range of source material. It's very niche subject matter to cover so most people are unlikely to find coaches nearby! Hope that helps. I hope people enjoy it, if they don't they can ignore it or fight me haha :). My aim is to get people excited by the WW2 arts and get stuck in to the wealth of great stuff out there.
@@TommyMooreww2combatives my brother Daz Norton was taught it by our Grandad and is very good at it. Good! Hope you enjoy exploring it 🤙🥊
Prep for a " post tier Britain, document check " 2021. like the scenario training 👍
Haha that did creep into my mind soon as I said it!
I just found you channel. Great stuff. I much prefer the old school WWII combative systems over MMA. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
Might be able to integrate this into the street defense portion of my formal Isshinryu training.
Tommy, keep them coming.. It is good to see videos of the fairbairn/sykes program instead of reading it
Thanks fella, trying to do my best to keep it relevant to people :)
Amazing Tommy as usual!
