'Darkness' for me (but that's just my opinion) was not a must-have. It was relevant to be in a set list when the 'Up' album was released but now I would have easily dropped it and swaped with a fans favourite like rythm of the heat or san jacinto - or 'more than this' if another song from 'Up' was to be included. But again that's just my own taste and there would be as many set lists as fans if the artists wanted to please everybody. At the end of the day it's also about the songs that he likes to sing and a balance between upbeat, slow, old and not so old songs I suppose

Like you say, an opinion… Darkness was a great memory from the Up tour with his theatrics around it. I actually love that tune. It wakes up the audience and has a deep emotional component to it.

@@danburnes722 i don't dislike it but for the type of fan that i am it does not stand as a classic and i would expect - if this is his final tour - to hear the fans favourites beside of course of the new album tunes which i really like so far. Maybe he'll do a 'best of' tour next year (with a couple of songs from the Lamb lies down on Broadway on its 50th anniversary - one can dream) although i think he's not the kind to do a farewell/best of tour but i'm sure promoters would offer a large brown enveloppe for that. He might or might not but something tells me that this is not his last outing - time will tell

You can’t have it all… there are a great many fantastic songs that weren’t included, but we’ve heard those before. Mercy Street. Blood Of Eden. Secret World. Sky Blue. San Jacinto. The list goes on… Darkness is a powerful way to start the second set. And who else but Peter Gabriel would include 12 new songs that are as strong as anything he’s done before? And personally, I wouldn’t mind if he had skipped Don’t Give Up and Red Rain, but then again… you can’t have it all!

Man. Couldn't disagree more. Darkness is one of my favourite songs of all time by PG. And it makes sense for an artist like PG, who is as innovative and forward thinking, to do more new stuff than just providing fan service and playing whatever is popular. Besides, this isn't even a reunion tour, it's the I/O tour. Pretty standard to have primarily songs from the album and other "recent" material in the limelight.
