Since iOS 7, even the newest iPads aren't completely smooth. They have weird transition lag, especially when hitting the home button to go out of an app or accessing folders. It's still a great experience overall, but not nearly as smooth as it was on iOS 6. I do find that my Tab Pro 8.4 lags a little, but it's mostly on the homescreen and I blame magazine UX for that, which I also find to be less than useful, given the limited selection of content and the way tapping on anything simply opens Flipboard, rather than the article. In the end, I like them both. But I think the Tab Pro 8.4 takes it on hardware, especially with that screen.
Interesting to see that the lag issue accompanying Samsung's TouchWiz overlay continues to plague its devices. For that reason alone, I'd go with the buttery smooth and seamless iPad mini. A small form factor device is useless for productivity so that negates the Tab 8.4 Pro's multi-tasking advantage. iPad Mini is the better choice.
You are wrong actually... I have the Note 8 tablet and it is perfectly big enough to watch RUclips videos while surfing the Net or browsing Twitter, etc. I use this feature all the time and would hate to lose it. I also have full access to my file system, where I get to save my images, videos, music and documents where and how I want them. I get to plug into a PC and drag 'n' drop files without the worst software ever, iTunes. Having been on both sides of the fence I can tell you straight there is not comparison. If you offered me an iPad Mini for free I would say "no thank you". They are too restrictive and lacking in functionality. Oh, in our music apps (Android) we get to sort music by folder (folders we set up), artist, song, album, mood, etc.
The iPad mini was not running iOS 7.1. 5:29 - The icons came while he made the gesture. In iOS 7 they come after the multitasking gesture is completely done. (Tested it on my iPad air, 3 and 2 - All with 7.1) Fine review though, but please just tell the truth that would be better.
Not at all. It's Taylors comparison itself that is sorely lacking. Just reeling off specs is pathetic. Both tablets have their virtues and assets and prospective buyers should be aware of that fact to make the best educated choice. Unfortunately this video is hardly helpful if at all.
Maybe I should have said 'CERTAIN specifications shouldn't be compared between devices using different OS'.' Obviously comparing aspects like the screen technologies, resolutions, storage space and that kind of thing matters but mentioning aspects like the CPU and RAM is kinda silly when comparing an Android and iOS device.
My daughter has the the iPad mini with retina display. I have the galaxy tab pro 8.4 and even my daughter wants to trade because she likes the Samsung more. All the games she has on iPad I can get for Droid. Only thing iPad has is options of accessories which I understand because it is only one style for apple. No other brands running their software. Let's not forget apple relies heavily on Samsung and other tech companies for their parts and makes it so they can only use them. Anyway it doesn't matter. I prefer the flexibility and customizations I can do with droid.
The freedom of Android for me is most important too. Besides that, in holland the tab pro 8.4 sells for €259,00, the iPad mini Retina for €369,00 which makes the tab pro even more a bargain. Throwing in a 64GB micro sdcard still keeps it under €300,00. The iPad mini retina 64GB sells for €539,00.
Quality of materials? What makes Aluminium a higher quality choice? They differ in choice of building materials. Quality is subject and might take into account not only in hand feel and looks but also durability.
During the browser comparison segment the ipad mini wasnt as smooth as the tab pro. When zooming and scrolling really fast it would fail to keep the webpage fully loaded
Here's my input guys. I'm a die-hard android fan when it comes to phones. Android wrecks apple with phones. Apple's tablet game is unbeatable though. I would not want an android phone and tablet. Android tablets are practically the EXACT same thing without calling. I like to mix it up. I bought an iPad mini 3 and I love it. Everyone needs a new flavor in their life.
I have a macbook and and Iphone 5s and i like how i can iMessage from from laptop, i guess its one of the reasons I still have an iphone. Now Im thinking of getting the Samsung tab s just to change it up thoughts? I havent owned an android device in along time and I have an Ipad already but my sister uses it alot and I need another tablet.
That is an In valid statement Ipads are just blown up iphones and what can you do on an iPhone nothing I believe samsung has the best tablets out there with a variety for everyone and the multitasking etc
Great review, but one thing - battery statistics are so important these days when choosing a tablet, and basically when it comes down to it, you couldnt be bothered to wait the 8-9hrs to measure it. That's pretty piss poor. Don't feel you need to rush these reviews out if you're not going to include the bits people care about.
Does the ipad can take pictures with format 16/9 ? I don´t seen any pictures with this format in the video. Disculpen si no se entiende bien, mi inglés no es muy bueno :p
Watching this on my tab pro :) Ive been using Galaxy Tab Pro 3 weeks from now and I can say that the performance is overall superb! Buttery smooth while playing games, browsing the net. The only drawback for me is the slight lags on Magazine UX but theres no lag on Touchwiz, when surfing the net and when playing games. My sister owns an iPad mini 2 but she keeps on barrowing my Tab Pro. She said that she likes yhe customizations on my Tab pro. I also noticed that tab pro has more vivid display than iPad mini 2. I love my tab pro very powerful processor!
Tab pro 8.4 is my choice. Nice comparison video. Taylor Martin always does great and unbiased comparisons. You get more for your money with Samsung and the 16.10 display makes more sense for media.
I have both machines amd they both jave their pros and cons. The tab pro has a amazing camera, for a tablet. It's the best 8mp camera I've ever used. It's much better than the original Galaxy Note's, and or the Mega 6.3's 8mp cameras, for example, and by a long shot. And it has an excellent FLASH. One wouldn't think a camera on a tablet would matter that much, however I've purchased a $5 tripod adapter and now use the tab pro as a camera a lot, which is a superb experience IMH. The flash doubles as a video recording light too, and a very effective one. Again, I'm not saying a camera should be the selling point of a tablet, but given the quality of the camera on the Tab Pro, it's definitely worth mentioning. As odd as it may be I now use the tab pro as my main camera at home and it's just absolutely amazing to use the relatively huge and pixel dense screen as a viewfinder! Again, with the handy tripod adapter ($5 online). The iSight 5mp on the Ipad is decent-ish, but that's it, and it has no flash to speak of.
I would love to see a Android tablet with the same display aspect ratio of the iPAD, if they keep doing it 16:9 they are forcing the user to handle and operate the device in landscape, i think with 4:3 aspect ratio is easier to handle the tablet in portrait mode, we should be able to decide, and no be force to. 4:3 for tablets is the best option.
I don't think so. I actually prefer 16:9, especially on this tablet. It feels quite natural in portrait.
10 лет назад
Taylor Martin When using an Android tablet in portrait mode it just feels to long in the hand and heavy this aspect ratio clearly is not made to see things in portrait mode but landscape. That situation is unexciting in 4:3 display configuration. I can use the iPAD in both ways without feeling anything weird on it. It's more natural e mean more well balanced.
the aspect ratio is perfect for videos and reading. you dont need to be handling it. get a stand
10 лет назад
OneOfOne Come on dude...at least let me choose they I want to handle it. If I'm reading something, using twitter, facebook, even google+ I prefer portrait mode, if I'm watching a video hell yeah landscape, but let me choose. 4:3 is the best.
Indeed, iPad mini has a better build quality. But I still went for the Tab Pro 8.4 due to microSD expansion and the higher resolution with 16:10 for my multimedia usage.
hi guys. my friend also has a tab pro 8.4 and he wants to swap his tab into an ipad mini 2 with 32gb. i think his tab pro is just 3 months old. is it possible to swap his tab to other gadget stores? could he get a brand new ipad mini 2?
I'm just glad that apple fixed most of the bugs and performance issues with iOS 7.1. I'm also glad they sped up the animations and added some nice features too
I have a galaxy tab 3 but it is almost a year old. And it's getting kinda slow... and I really wanna get an apple product to see if I like it better. I have never had any kind of apple products so I think it would be cool to try out one. I would love an ipad air but there too exspensive. So I wanna get an ipad mini. And costco has some for a pretty good price. So this video helped alot. I kinda saw more of what the ipad mini can do. I'm 13 by the way if you wanted to know lol.
Zian Chien Yap I got a ipad mini 2. And I kinda like it. If it breaks it's not like I lost money, because my mom got me one instead of a phone. But I hate how expensive apple things are, and also the app store is way too expensive for some apps. I still like my ipad tho.
Zian Chien Yap i have a galaxy tab s 10.5 that material that apple will never make and ipad mini is kinda good but the tab s is way better even ipad air i hate apple the only product i like is apple i mac
I advise to install Google experience launcer from Google Play. I've done it with my Lenovo Yoga8. Now its very smooth. Although it has a much slower CPU .
I just wish Samsung would redesign touchwiz and tone it down so it won't be laggy all the time. I like the features they include but hate the lag that comes with their ui.
The tab is decent I only like the split screen... Which iOS 9 will have but mostly iOS 10 but the iPad mini is better, more better apps, beautiful design, thin, very fast and smooth and can handle the high end graphics like its butter. . .
I have the Galaxy Pro 8.4. It is a gorgeous tablet but I do think the Mini form / shape ( 4:3 ) is a lot more convenient to hold and type. For the Galaxy it is very hard to type - when you are in portrait mode it is too narrowed when you are in landscape it is too wide. I had Acer 810 before that and it was similar to the size of the Mini and it was almost perfect to surf / type / read ...
Eh, i bought the iPad Mini retina, and had it for about a week, comparing it's display to my iPad 4, and My HTC One, it seemed MUCH blander and undersaturated, it's a bigger difference than you think
The Galaxy Tab pro 8.4 made better sense for my lifestyle, I hate dealing with Itunes, watching movies on my tab pro is amazing and the screen resolution is beautiful. I dont see any lag on my device, and i love being able to control my tv with my tablet and it does not have to be a samsung tv, everyone can relate when you leave your remote on the other couch and you just sat down and got comfortable, well lucky for me my tab pro is always with me so i can change the channel :)
Even though the homescreen on the tab pro is kind of slow, you can install custom roms on it and fix the issue... because it's an Android, right? Sadly, you can't do much on the customization part on iPad. You can jailbreak it and install Cydia... then what? I never used any of them, but I got an iOS device so I can warn you about this thing on the iPad side.
Ipad is missing the camera's flash. It makes difference when taking pictures. However this devices are very close to each other. Again, the platform will effect on your choice.
The problem with Samsung is it has no resale value...its battery sucks within one year. But no issues with Ipad mini/air/any ipad of Apple. It has a great battery life and also the resale value is very good.
Micro SD card does it for me, and not having to keep connecting to laptop, plus you can pick up the Samsung for £159 in UK. iPad just to limited without a laptop and iTunes
I can get the tab pro for 220 euros and the ipad mini 2 for 270, which should i get if i only want to do basic stuff like browsing, email and pictures?
In all honesty, I feel if I have an android OS Phone I simply CANNOT have an android powered Tablet. I had the Iphone 4 when it first came out for Verizon and not even a year later I though getting the Ipad when it first came was going to be a good idea. It wasn't solely on the fact that they were the same thing just different sizes. So I got rid of my Ipad based on that fact. I then switched from Apple to android by going to the Galaxy Note 2 , being so used to Apples music layout I feel that it could have been improved on the galaxy but the fact that I could customize my phone the way I wanted to made up for it. So being present year I now have the LG G3 which is amazing, I had gotten another tablet, which happened to be the Tab pro 8.4 Loved it at first but after extensive use of it and going back and forth from my phone to the tablet i realized again it was the same thing both Android (obviously). I returned it. Now I only returned it based off of that fact, the tab itself was AWESOME there was nothing wrong with it at all I just don't like the idea of having both an android tab and phone. I personally like separate OS experiences but that's just me. I now have an Ipad Mini 2 32gb. I love both OS's and what they have to offer.
Throw an S-Pen on that 8.4 and make it a Note and it would be pretty tough decision for me. I think this is best competition for the r-Mini that I've seen - the LG G Tab GPE was close I think, but this is more reaching "par" as you concluded.
ipad is simple and fun . Samsung is very detailed and confusing . Quality wise Apple is far superior .People say they love Samsung/Android ,but no one anticipates what they release.Although I don't own any iPad , i am always looking out for new release and youtube videos abt unboxing/reviews. Apple brand is far superior to any out there . Thats what matters!!! Just found out Samsung has a fablet called Note 3 . you see what i mean.lol
I own both and frankly speaking the limitations apple imposes over there product is insane Android on the other hand is much more flexible and easy to use Just plug it in copy your favourite movie or Ebook or music and you are good to go The ipad is a pain in these aspects. Itunes is one of the worst syncing softwares out there Yeah the build quality is better but once i put a cover on it they both feel the same But its the ease and flexibility that the droid offers which makes it worth the money
Both of these tablets stuttered a little during this video. Its ironic to see that when Apple started to add features to match Android, they start getting tons of bugs and lag. But I think I'd still go for the iPad, I already have a Note 3. Buying a Samsung tablet would be redundant IMHO.
Games and videos are contradictory since each device is better suited for one of them. iPad without doubt offers the better game selection while watching movies is a more pleasing experience on the 16:9 screen of Tab Pro.
Happy to see Samsung finally produce a small tablet that can take it to Apple.....After all...Samsung was here in the small tablet space before Apple and a huge amount of litigation ensued...only now are we seeing real competition here...

iPad Mini is the better choice.
IOS 7 makes Apple devices lag too, though. It does on mine.

Fine review though, but please just tell the truth that would be better.
It is/was running 7.1. The update landed while I was shooting video, and I didn't have strong enough Internet to download and install at the time.
Spec comparisons between devices running different OS' is pointless.
Not at all. It's Taylors comparison itself that is sorely lacking. Just reeling off specs is pathetic. Both tablets have their virtues and assets and prospective buyers should be aware of that fact to make the best educated choice. Unfortunately this video is hardly helpful if at all.

ok, it's focus on Hardware spec
hey, pocketnow ... plz make a video of Galaxy tab pro 8.4 vs LG Gpad 8.3
The ultimat tablet would be an iPad with Android 4.4 Kitkat and Microsoft Office
If I had to choose one I would go iPad mini cause it has a better app selection and its more secure user friendly.
My daughter has the the iPad mini with retina display. I have the galaxy tab pro 8.4 and even my daughter wants to trade because she likes the Samsung more. samsung sucks..... :P
Shahvt. Williams you can expand your memory on the tab pro
Rajin Singh I expanded over 128gb
it's called android, not droid
Hi! I was just wondering what app you used on your desktop that displays the time and a "Good afternoon" message.. Thank you.
What! isheep Taylor Martin actually gave Samsung some love
A closer comparison: lg gpad 8.3 vs galaxy tab 8.4
Funny how on multi-tasking, iPad mini lagged.
Someone please tell me what Taylor is using in His Screen that shows the time and all? I think that is chome, but what extension ?
LOL the moment you mentioned the resolution the Throwback video of the HD2 you were showing displayed 480 x 800
Quality of materials? What makes Aluminium a higher quality choice? They differ in choice of building materials. Quality is subject and might take into account not only in hand feel and looks but also durability.
Where do you can change the color of the notification area (samsung)?
I have the 8.4 and I love it. Great tab
During the browser comparison segment the ipad mini wasnt as smooth as the tab pro. When zooming and scrolling really fast it would fail to keep the webpage fully loaded
0:01 What is that thing on your second screen? Taylor Martin ***** Taylor Martin
Exactly. I have a HTC One phone with an iPad mini w/retina. iPad is king, but their phones are bad (used to own a 5s).
***** I think you mean Linux, god of PCs.
*--Samsung--Galaxy--Note--Pro--4G--LTE--Tablet--Black--12.2-Inch--32GB--* is so cheap on amzn.to/1z0kMPQ. Big discount in New Year. Don't miss it
I have a macbook and and Iphone 5s and i like how i can iMessage from from laptop, i guess its one of the reasons I still have an iphone. Now Im thinking of getting the Samsung tab s just to change it up thoughts? That is an In valid statement Ipads are just blown up iphones and what can you do on an iPhone nothing I believe samsung has the best tablets out there with a variety for everyone and the multitasking etc
what are those mounts that he uses does anyone know?
Great review, but one thing - battery statistics are so important these days when choosing a tablet, and basically when it comes down to it, you couldnt be bothered to wait the 8-9hrs to measure it. That's pretty piss poor. Don't feel you need to rush these reviews out if you're not going to include the bits people care about.
Does the ipad can take pictures with format 16/9 ?
I don´t seen any pictures with this format in the video.
Disculpen si no se entiende bien, mi inglés no es muy bueno :p
where have you bought these tabletstands? I like them and should buy these.
Watching this on my tab pro :) Ive been using Galaxy Tab Pro 3 weeks from now and I can say that the performance is overall superb! Buttery smooth while playing games, browsing the net. I'll take both. I actually have the iPad mini, but I'll always grab my kids google chromebook before I grab the iPad :/
Tab pro 8.4 is my choice. Nice comparison video. Taylor Martin always does great and unbiased comparisons.
You get more for your money with Samsung and the 16.10 display makes more sense for media.
16:10.
I like the Tab Pro 8.4's shape more... don't know why, maybe because of the 16:10 aspect ratio. The iPad Mini looks a little bit stubby.
Peter Shurr They're called tablet stands. You can find them at Amazon, and they're relatively inexpensive.
did you mention the sd card on the galaxy vs fixed storage of ipad?
Someone mind telling me how Taylor has his browser home page like that in the beginning?
I have both machines amd they both jave their pros and cons.
The tab pro has a amazing camera, for a tablet. It's the best 8mp camera I've ever used. It's much better than the original Galaxy Note's, and or the Mega 6.3's 8mp cameras, for example, and by a long shot. And it has an excellent FLASH.

When I buy this tablet in the states can I choose german for the system language? Thank you for your answer ;)
Yes
Excellent review!!!
4:3 for tablets is the best option.

herman stokbrood inderdaad :)
What's the storage?
Nice comparison Taylor!
Can anybody tell me what premium is and who says premium has to be metal (in this case aluminium)? Thanks
hi guys. my friend also has a tab pro 8.4 and he wants to swap his tab into an ipad mini 2 with 32gb. i think his tab pro is just 3 months old. is it possible to swap his tab to other gadget stores? could he get a brand new ipad mini 2?

I've tested the galaxy Tab Pro in a store. It was soo slowly and laggy. Why is yours running so smooth?
I advise to install Google experience launcer from Google Play. I've done it with my Lenovo Yoga8. Now its very smooth. Although it has a much slower CPU .
You are right Javier. Its the Google Now Launcher. Its quite good.
i have tab pro for almost 3 months but still, its responsnsive, fast, and fluid. i have tons of apps installed
I have the galaxy pro and its extremely fast
cedric allanigue i had for 2 year and run smoothly
Please how can i have a pc desktop like yours i have a 22 inches
I just wish Samsung would redesign touchwiz and tone it down so it won't be laggy all the time. I like the features they include but hate the lag that comes with their ui.
Just picked up the 8.4. I'm impressed, other than the TouchWiz lag...
They're like mirror images of eachother. Except you can upload a custom rom on the tab pro, so I would go with that.
I want that coffee wallpaper!
The tab is decent I only like the split screen... Which iOS 9 will have but mostly iOS 10 but the iPad mini is better, more better apps, beautiful design, thin, very fast and smooth and can handle the high end graphics like its butter. . .
Just like the Tab Pro 8m4
4:3 format is so much better...
Looks are never deceiving. They're deceptive.

The Galaxy Tab pro 8.4 made better sense for my lifestyle, I hate dealing with Itunes, watching movies on my tab pro is amazing and the screen resolution is beautiful. did no one point out that the tab has widgets and that new magazine thing while ios only has app icons?
which is better for watching video, playing game and listening music?
Ipad is missing the camera's flash.
It makes difference when taking pictures. However this devices are very close to each other. Again, the platform will effect on your choice.
The problem with Samsung is it has no resale value...its battery sucks within one year. But no issues with Ipad mini/air/any ipad of Apple. It has a great battery life and also the resale value is very good.
Whoa only 480p resolution for this video? I call shenanigans! Would've been great to watch in 1080p
it was still processing...every youtube video takes time before HD is available but that time is usually quite fast
ahh I didn't know that. The for the info, next time I'll remember to wait a lil
Micro SD card does it for me, and not having to keep connecting to laptop, plus you can pick up the Samsung for £159 in UK. iPad just to limited without a laptop and iTunes
Shoulda compared the nexus 7 too
you can download magazine ux on the ipad
I choose iPad Mini cause of its awesome battery life. Almost 12hours of heavy usage.
I like the form factor of the tab pro
Minus the lag !!! Why does it have to be that way ??
I can get the tab pro for 220 euros and the ipad mini 2 for 270, which should i get if i only want to do basic stuff like browsing, email and pictures?
***** Glad i bought the tab pro a few days ago!
TheNewbpowner123 tab pro definitely. i own this and the performance is overall superb. more features plus cheaper. nice choice!
Did you buy the tab pro before the mini 3 was introduced? I'm curious on the price of the mini 2.
Galaxy tab lag 1:48
Sorry to bother you with the fan boy wars going on but does anyone know what stand he is using for both devices?
Nice review! Samsung is really stepping up their game when it comes to tablets!
Throw an S-Pen on that 8.4 and make it a Note and it would be pretty tough decision for me.
I think this is best competition for the r-Mini that I've seen - the LG G Tab GPE was close I think, but this is more reaching "par" as you concluded.
I find the 4 & 5 finger gestures really clunky. Don't understand why they had to make you use so many fingers.
well the tab pro not getting no more update
ipad is simple and fun .
Umm... how are android tablets complex there both the same apple fan boy?
your question is confusing and complex like android . LOL
Sushil Bikram Adhikari I like apple and android apple for gaming android for work
i hear you
justify your statement. you''re just a fanboy you dont own both devices. LOL.
Ipad rocks. End of story!
Fuck Man Fuck👃🏿
chrischoy9haha little noob
chrischoy9 haha noob I know this just happened to you
so you're telling me
Wow how did my one single comment about ipad lead to all this XD
chrischoy9 this shit happened becoz of akshay
so talk to him idiot not me
get the fuck out of here
What the GT 86??
I own both and frankly speaking the limitations apple imposes over there product is insane
Android on the other hand is much more flexible and easy to use
Just plug it in copy your favourite movie or Ebook or music and you are good to go
The ipad is a pain in these aspects. Itunes is one of the worst syncing softwares out there
Yeah the build quality is better but once i put a cover on it they both feel the same
But its the ease and flexibility that the droid offers which makes it worth the money
iPad Mini baby!
why are there always stupid edges on the sides of the photos with iDevices
iPad lags more than the Samsung one :/
No.. I'm just Not an fanboy and I'm a iPad user. IOS 7 is laggy as shit!
2duraka true but gaming is sooooo much smother
iPad all the way
Both of these tablets stuttered a little during this video. Its ironic to see that when Apple started to add features to match Android, they start getting tons of bugs and lag. But I think I'd still go for the iPad, I already have a Note 3. Buying a Samsung tablet would be redundant IMHO.
Even when you talk bad about apple... The iPad is better!
apart from it's draconian restrictions on it's software content, right? but that's ok because it's @pple, right?
It looks like the iPad mini in the front with the only different display ratio. 9:16 vs 4:3.
Did that sentence mean anything? LOL
Laggy iPad at 6:19 xD Now not only Touchwiz has it lol
480 x 800 ?? 4.3" ??
That was from the HTC Windows phone thingy in the video playing on the tablet
ha... at the same time as he was talking about size and resolution... kind of a big coincidence, right?
The only thing that's different on any of them is that apple products on iPad has messaging.
Got the tab s 8.4, wow and I liked the Ipad mini too but damn, tab s killed it for me.
Im sorry but its just me or that galaxy tab screen feels like more blue tone colour.
Cual es mejor?
What do you use your tablet for? I mainly use it for games, and videos.
Games and videos are contradictory since each device is better suited for one of them.
iPad without doubt offers the better game selection while watching movies is a more pleasing experience on the 16:9 screen of Tab Pro.
I use my note for taking note in class and copying down lecture. Exactly how it was meant to be used
both d tabs look fantastic
did he forgot to mention that samsung pro has window mode upto 3 apps at a time aside from split screen?
DEAD TRIGGER 2 test! Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 vs iPad mini
Which is better for gaming? :)
you can never replace ipad mini.
Happy to see Samsung finally produce a small tablet that can take it to Apple.....After all...Samsung was here in the small tablet space before Apple and a huge amount of litigation ensued...only now are we seeing real competition here...
