Rich, I'm honored that you would share your story with us. Despite the negative reaction you received back here at home, you still hold out the belief that you did the right thing and continue to serve us. Your tenacity is highly admired sir.
Hi Rich. I grew up on Long Island. Lived in Bethpage and Hauppauge. I was about 14 years old when you were in Vietnam. Glad you made it back home sir. Thank you. My cousin was killed on his 5th day in country.
Thank you for your service Sir. I am a non combat veteran who served during peace time 1977-81 USMC. I met Vietnam Veterans who serviced in combat. I always listen and appreciate there service to our nation. God bless you.
I m sorry things were like they were after the war. Thank you so much for your service to our country and even though it s aweful late let me tell all Nam vets WELCOME HOME!
Thank you for your service, I wonder looking back how the people who yelled at and spat on our returning veterans feel about their disgraceful behavior. I'm pretty sure they went into our educational system and continued to teach the younger generations to hate America.
It's terrible that these guys were treated badly. Now they spit on police officers. Americans should be thankful for the prosperity that we enjoy and take less for granted.
A stupid, ugly and entirely wrong war but you can't have anything but respect for this man and those like him, be it enlistee or draftee these men put there lives on the line for their country when asked and how they were thanked for it was absolutely disgusting.
I'm English but fucking hell mate, spitting on your own troops. That is unforgivable, you didn't choose the war, you did your duty as any real man would. Total respect and I hope to God trump wins as I sense that same rhetoric of hating your own troops seems to be a democrat thing - but I am no expert. All the best.
I'm just now watching this (in 2017) and my heart goes out to all of the veterans. I hear stories like Rich's as well as other friends of mine who have deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and they are all similar. All in all our enemies are mostly nice people. It is simply govt. against govt. and who has a bigger dick. The civilians are always good people. Please take care of our veterans. Write your congressmen and congresswomen as well as your senators and express to them the necessity of taking care of our veterans.
When I travelled across USA in 1980 I was surprised by an underlying feeling of mass alienation, rootlessness. Also fear of the black males on the greyhound buses and cities. It is a much crazier place than the rest of the world realises. Don't get me wrong I liked most Americans I met.
Im Jamaican what the hell he didnt even land properly yet before some ungrateful shit spits on him...I dont get it some of these guys didnt choose to even go nor did they choose the war it should SMH
I'm a Vietnam/Draft resistor. I never disrespected veterans over the decades until they went "Hollywood" with all their documentaries, Vietnam reunions, Honor Flights and BS videos, like these. They are milking the naive good intentions of younger generations b/c of their "victimhood". The Draft was NO excuse for their involvement in Vietnam. They were enablers of their US Government and its dysfunctional foreign policy. They survived... so sthu...and live your lives. You dodged a bullet from the people you wrongly intended to kill in their homeland That's your story.
