I watch this before I take my first car in life persona standard tomorrow. I never test drive but Kon’s review just reaffirms and give me the confidence that I have made the right choice.
I really love the way you explained how the CVT works. I'm considering changing my 2015 Iriz to the latest one. Glad to know they fixed that jerking issue.
Back when mine was new,it did not jerks as much as it did now.I did sent to workshop for a quick scan,weirdly it does not had any TCU faults but there were 2 fault codes which was Immobilizer and ABS.I am not sure whether it have to do with not changing filter or do clutch adaptation after transmission oil change or is it just the characteristics of the CVT.

In 2018, I had to choose between the Persona and City. I compared the 3/5/7 years resale prices of both cars at that time and found that if I were to sell them used 3/5/7 years down the road, it would most likely cost me less to own a City due to its great value retention. Today, a 2018 City V (87K in 2018) goes for 65~70K, which is about 17-22K depreciation, while the Persona Premium (59K in 2018) goes for 30-32K, that is almost a 30K depreciation. What I learned from this is that if you are in a market for a new B segment sedan today, and you can comfortably afford either, you will pay less and get more if you buy a City/Vios compared to a Persona. However, if you are in the market for a second hand B segment sedan today, then a Persona would be a great proposition seeing as it has depreciated greatly.
The ability of the Japanese B and C segment cars (and Myvi) to retain value in Malaysia is indeed astounding. But I think this latest Persona will retain value better than its predecessors, because it's a far superior product which will not get undercut by future facelifts. This will be the last we see of Persona and Campro engines, the future proton sedan will be Geely-based, probably for the better.
Shocking that they still can't retrofit rear headrest into the Persona. It can be a big deal for taller folks plus there's also the whiplash protection factor.
That's the issue I test drive yesterday. I'm 172cm 80kg. My head bend 45°backward. My dad wira also have adjustable headrest on rear passenger,why new persona don't? Even new iriz have. Really don't get it
S or B is basically "braking mode" which is used either going down slope or going uphill(if really has not enough power but all CVT's computer can detect what terrain the car is on...whether is flat road, uphill or down slope and adjust the gear ratio depending on that terrain u only need to engage B or S when it's really not enough
Im ok with the 16 inch wheels- yes the 15 inch wheels did look a bit off but... I'd slap on the 15s, and with 195/60r15 tires. Same diameter with additional 15mm sidewall height, equals plusher ride.
Hi Kon, Pls make a video on issues with proton persona. It's launched in 2016 upgraded & facelift to 2023 and I still hear window problems & foul smell when you on the aircon which is not good. I mean if proton can't rectify this after very long, how would a customer get convinced to buy. I had very irritating experience at toll plaza & during heavy rain many times with my 2008 proton saga windows then. Had to research thoroughly b4 purchasing
this is the only problem for punch's CVT it's unusually high for a CVT because the one of the advantage of CVT is low RPM at high speed but i cannot understand why punch CVT's RPM feels like driving a 4AT at high speed this is also my only complaint when i first drive a rental persona

Yeah, traded up to the S-Max when my wife was pregnant with our second child. My sister in-law currently stays with us, so we needed a car that fit three adults and two child seats.
"Hi Proton" features really help if you want your wife permission to buy this persona. "Sayang, see this!" "Hi Proton, windows up". (Windows up) and your wife be like. "Whaaaaaa???" and then you can put your smug face on because you know deep inside your wife has taken the bait. hahaha
Naturally. The Iriz was the original shape which this platform was designed in mind for. The Persona was a later derivative developed on a budget with the constraint to keep mechanical changes to a minimum.
You should have mentioned that Proton car prices are always lower than foreign companies due to the tax regime favouring Proton in Malaysia. It's not a fair comparison then.
That applies on two occasions. One, audio volume, where you can just say "volume up" or "volume down" at any time. The other is when the system is already on listening mode; say you have asked the system for the weather, in the few seconds before it goes to standby, you can give another command. You cannot give commands while it's on standby without triggering the system with "Hi Proton". Would be chaos when speaking in the car... 🤣

Just kinda wish they didn't make the Iriz and Persona have such tall bodies, their exterior proportions don't give off that sporty feel despite actually having sporty handling.
well you need to account taller people. But higher top means having spacious expression inside. I mean, if you want to travel 4 people inside a sedan car with low top. You gonna feel cramped. That why alot of people like myvi. Because myvi is compact yet spacious. Sports car is always means for fun in driving, fun in driving you always need to trade in with comfort. Manufacturer always need to made up their mind sporty vs comfort. Its hard to combine both and then give a reasonable price.
I looking for a sedan car, persona initially is my 1st choice, but a lot silly issue, eg power window motor, gear oil leakage, rear bumper design issue etc make me downgrade it from my 1st choice. What make i no book is i go to proton 4s shop looking for test drive, no show car but previous version iriz, and the salesman bring me to service center to see any new persona is doing service or not can let me view. I like wtf, u can simply borrow customers car do that ? How if i buy with u? How if owner not there? Maybe test drive for few round. Car and design is good but service and QA really disappointing. I even heard x50 unable service due to no black oil ? Lol

I've been using my persona executive since 30th Oct 2021. Here's my short review, for the driving, I like that. Selalu on eco mode bcs nak jimat minyak haha so everyday kerja, got la rm50 for minyak, not full tank. My aircond started bau hapak and busuk once its on, less than 2 mins the smell go away, but i feel so uncomfortable. Sometimes when i drive, ada bunyi bising sikit dkt bahagian absorber, not sure if its normal or not. The most fucked up thing, if i on bluetooth & connect with my phone & the same time i buka lampu depan bila malam, i boleh dengar bunyi nyaring berpanjangan. It's soooo annoying 🥲
What I hate about the car is the dashboard.it looks like the old Toyota hi ace.its so high.u have to adjust the seat height.then u look like a fool driving a car that as tall as a van

Gimmicky "Hi Proton" Design wise....its still ugly with a very tall roofline Dont believe....compare it to other cars at the traffic light....its almost as tall as a SUV. I believe in calling a spade a spade

S gear stay on lower gear longer, good for maintaining speed around corner. B gear also same but for going downhill slowly

The cruising rpm at high speed is too high for a CVT ...120kmh need 3000rpm....
this is the only problem for punch's CVT

@@alien13579 Actually proton can just use PREVE IAFM CVT setting, 120km/h@2500rpm, still higher than vios but acceptable compare with current setting.

Too new to tell, but I know overheating is a problem with these Campro VVT engines, particularly the 1.6.

Yea. Sometimes when I drive at night, I have to memorize the button which I think is… okay can consider la. But no style lorh.

I heard that you do not need to wait for it to acknowledge and just say your command , it will react to it.

No doubt proton is improving on their cars. There's only 1 thing left to do: reduce fuel consumption. Then proton will be #1.
