Not if you do it right. If you coil it over/under it achieves the same end as a figure 8, but in a much more space conscious way, and can be conveniently and easily hung on a wall. Take it down when you’re ready to use, and pull it out and it freely extends with no twists or kinks.
I’m honestly shocked at how much bad advice there is in this subject in RUclips. Nothing wrong with figure 8s, it’s far better than single coiling a hose the wrong way, but it’s hardly the best method.

  • @freed6343

Coiling in a "Figure 8" pattern will also help you prevent the cord on your upright vacuum from getting all twisted up when you unfurl the cord to plug into the wall. Simply wrap the cord onto the two storage hooks in a figure 8 fashion instead of an "O" or circular fashion like most of us would do. This is especially helpful if the cord holder (usually the one at the top) bends down to release all of the cord at once. Try the figure 8 on your upright vacuum and let me know how that works for you by replying to this comment. Have a blessed day.

    • @DavidsTutorials

Was taught by my dad who was a sailor that this is called a fake or faking it down when you put a hose cable or line in a figure 8 pattern so it doesnt tangle when you run the hose line out.
Bonus tip: you can put the 2 ends of the O's together, folding the figure 8 at the middle, after faking it down so you can move the hose or stow it and itll unfold into a nice faked figure 8

I snake my hose around the lawn, leaving the water inside and the spray gun closed. The heat of the day softens the hose. The water trapped inside stops the hose from becoming hardened plastic instead of the flexy plastic it's supposed to be. This makes it easier to coil. After it's coiled, release the water. Obviously i don't leave it out in the heat as to overheat the water inside. Just enough to make it soft enough to coil easily.

    • @DavidsTutorials

That's certainly one way to do it - especially if you don't need to mow the grass under the hose, and aren't worried about people walking through your yard, tripping, and filing a lawsuit, or simply don't care if it looks messy. Everyone gets to choose what they do.

    • @DavidsTutorials

You might consider purchasing one of those hose-reel-stands that allows you to wind up the hose on a reel, such as this one:
      amzn.to/3qc0Psb
Or if you need a less expensive solution, you could get a hose stand like this:

@@DavidsTutorials You 're background music has some wrong notes in it. It sounds like a F7#11 chord at 3:31. That sharp 11 really sticks out because it is a "wrong note". That chord is way to hip for the video. If you want help with appropriate music for your videos, let me know.

@@garymartin3310 Hi, Gary - the last line in the video description says "Background Music: Swing Theory, by Freedom Trail Studio, Courtesy of RUclips Creator Studio" so that means I downloaded it from RUclips. I would absolutely love to have help with appropriate music, because I often spend as much time trying to FIND the music as I do recording the video! Several times I've been on the verge of ponying up the $18 a month for a paid music service, but ... (grimace). If you're the same Gary I know from music lists, you have my email address; if not, you can email me from the CONTACT form at DavidsTutorials.com. Take care.

Very nice you can do better by telling people how to hang it on their house

Thanks, Orlando. I've tried that and it just doesn't work for me. Too much of a bother. But some others like it.

This is not useful. Hoses have to be put away and hung up and all this video did was talk with out actually presenting something practical. Annoyed.

Sorry you feel that way. But did you actually TRY it? I suspect not. You say hoses HAVE to be hung up -- but give no reasons why this is so. You might consider making and posting your own video explaining your position so others can know it. Take care.

@@DavidsTutorials I was originally searching for the 2 handed cable coiling technique but since your video for some reason came to the top of the results and I did criticize your "tutorial" allow me to elaborate. This is simply a large lazy figure 8 for people who cant be bothered to use a reel/ hanger and who cant be bothered to unwind it (adding about 15 seconds). This is lazy and sloppy, having a large 8 of hose in the yard is paramount to just leaving it lying around.

@@DavidsTutorials Also I do not need to make a video to "present my stance" on coiling a hose. The fact you feel I do shows you were a millenial born 40 years too early.
