I know it seems like you are doing the same thing over and over again (and in a way you mostly are indeed haha), but for beginners like us it's gold! Also, your charisma is super nice and makes the tutorial time go by much faster! Please, do more of it! ^^
Thank you so much! I'm glad it helps! I'll for sure do more. Is it specifically Affinity that you're interested in? Just so I know, it helps me decide what tools to use to introduce processes.
@@MegWayne Yeah, it's mostly the Affinity programs that I'm looking for, rn... I saw you mentioned Webflow, but it's not something I'm learning since I already do my webpages elsewhere ^^
wow I just picked up affinity designer on black friday sale. Looking to get into designing some things for some projects for myself. Came across this as the first video in my tutorial search and was blown away! What a talented designer, effortless teacher, great attitude funny tutorial! instant sub! looking forward to going through every one of your affinity design videos. Thank you so much
This is just wonderful! I am new to Affinity and Illustration in general so this helped a lot. And it was hella entertaining as well xD Keep up the great work! Looking forward to more Affinity Designer content!
You hit a home run on this tutorial! Goodness I just wanted to learn how to make game assets and characters and you pretty much showed me a ton a tips and tricks! May GOD bless you!
How has this only got 600 odd likes?! I love your presentation style, super helpful seeing your workflow ESPECIALLY in 4k so I can see whats going on with players and the UI with ease. TOP STUFF! keep it up
Thank you I appreciate it! I wish I had more time to make more videos! Correction: I wish RUclips hadn’t set the bar so high to monetize videos altogether so I could prioritize video production.
I watched from start to finish! Nice flow to your presentation. Hint of humour. Several useful techniques demonstrated! Thank you for sharing your talent 😀
Great tutorial, I've been an illustrator user for two decades but the price is just too attractive now to ignore affinity so watching a few tutorials like this is great.
This is absolute gold! I love your style and commentary, you're hilarious and had me laughing out loud at some of your comments :') I've been hesitating about buying AD for myself as I have zero design experience but it's always interested me, your video has inspired me to take the leap. Thank you for making this! Subscribed :D
haha I love your commentary very much!! also i learned more of the affinity designer from this video. i stopped using it because of complexity of vector but now I want to use it again. your creation is very pretty! can't wait to see more videos like this >w
Hi again Meg, Sorry I have just come across your tut about creating the character and I find this very intuitive and thank you very much. Kind regards. Ted
It almost pointless when people speed up their design work 100x and expect us to be able to follow the mouse and see what she does. she also talks so damn fast like typical girl
Next time you do abeginner tutorial you might wanna consider showcasing common workflows (ie how to set up the document etc) before jumping right into the project itself.
That's what I thought when I was younger and think when I see crazy good animators or 3D artists. That's the beauty of the job! It's about willing to put in the work to get there.
This is pretty awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! :-D I do understand, that you do the same thing over and over again, but couldn't do a tutorial of only one of these shapes and how you color and grade these and how you add the shadows? :-)
Thank you! Do you mean how to define what color goes where and how to set shadows? (I’m working on a full course outside of RUclips that goes more in detail but it’s gonna take a while to finish)
Can you explain how to do the mask layer on the grey lower part of the eye. Like how to stop the blur from going onto the outside of the eye. I've replayed the vid and googled and cannot for the life of my figure it out. :-)
Oh yes! I simply put the shape I want masked “inside” of the masking shape in the layer panel. Just by grabbing the layer to mask, and dragging over the masking shape layer and try to move your pointer slightly to the bottom right, you should be able to release the click and have the shape under it. And it’ll be masked and both will still be editable.
That's so cute. I love the design and colors! Although why is there no subtitle option? There is a subtitle option in your other videos but not this one. There are some words I don't understand because English isn't my first language.
I didn't set the language, that's why! It should auto generate from now on, but I don't know how long it takes for the video to be scanned. Thank you for telling me!
thank you very much for this tutorial, actually which keyboard key do you use to duplicate please? too bad i don't understand english 😕, (i use google translate to write).
Great video! I'm buying this program soon for my daughter soon. You said you were using a pen. Is the program in your tablet or computer? Sorry if that's a noob question, I have 0 knowledge about graphic design.
Hi! I use the desktop version only and have a Wacom tablet instead of a mouse. They do have an iPad version. Depending on how old and proficient your daughter is, and if the goal is to do illustration work, I’d strongly suggest accompanying that with illustration books/courses if needed or just encourage illustration practice outside of Affinity, cause Affinity is just a tool, it doesn’t help becoming a great designer on its own. It’s the number one concern I get in comments and it’s common to put a lot of hope in the tool and feel crushed when the result is not as good as work from designers who’ve been practicing for over a decade outside of software. Regarding the pen/iPad option, it depends on preferences and what people end up more comfortable with, the same way some artists hate doing realistic drawing with pencils and favor ball pen instead. I hope this helps, sorry for the long answer, I tried to be thorough!
Hi! If you're talking about the artboard, you just need to select it, and click a color in the color panel (you can also just make a big rectangle and lock the layer). If you're talking about the gray background in the app, it's under UI preferences.
Happy to see another character design from you...you haven’t posted much lately.... please keep the character designs coming....... do you do this stuff for a living?
Thank you! I don't do character design often, probably once every 2 years for work (I'm a web designer/animator/producer). Almost nothing from my YT channel comes from my job, that's why it takes longer to make but I'm trying to be more consistent as I like RUclips more than the other creative outlets.
Meg ..Well I definitely look forward to more design work from you, especially the character design...This type of stuff really catches my attention and I watch the videos over and over..I use Affinity designer (and photo) on the iPad Pro ..so when I see others doing the work I am trying to perfect, I get really excited to watch...so please keep them coming as often as possible :-)
@@LGeeThomas I mostly do them for training cause I'm more of a background person. Have you checked Behance for inspiration? There are some amazing character designers there that are.... actual character designers, haha
