I'm a university physics student and i'm doing a project about the utilization of neutrons in cultural heritage, and this was very useful, thank you!

Very helpful, even 10 years later!!!!

You can actually perform such an experiment using an alpha emitter, such as Po210, an aluminum or sodium. I actually did this myself and used a gamma spectrometer to detect the result.
    Fun stuff!

I gather that slow neutrons interact better with nuclei. Then is there useful information from higher energy neutron sources? Do some neutron captures only happen with high energy neutrons?

What about if a neutron comes in an Helium nucleus? (4He)

0:55 Z= no of proton = atomic no and A= atomic mass

A=mass number (?) not atomic number...

my question is simple,if a living person is there then its age is calculated by DNA test,if a nonliving then carbon dating, what if its a planet and stars ,how is its age detected? and what if it is not radio active does not have carbon at all? and if the answer is NAA,please explain it in simple words and with an example, thank you
