Mumei's lore is the Guardian of Civilization, her name Nanashi Mumei can both be translated as nameless, because she had already forgotten her actual name.
Not forgotten SHE FORMED HERSELF. Humankind civilization spirit. Not created by the Gods of Hololive. So, she born without any name. Again, not forgotten. Mumei call everything based on their kind. That's to make sure she's not forget. Because too much stuff in her humankind knowledge memory. Her name, she made it up and ends up with "no name" name. How she call stuff, she named it simple stuff because she afraid of forgotting things.
A fan created a Platformer puzzle game in the style of her Mumei song. When she beat it, she was so emotional that she had to mute and text on screen to speak with chat.
The thing about Mooms is she will, completely at random, put on karaoke streams at 3 AM with absolutely zero promotion. You have no idea which moom you're going to get - it could be metal, could be pop, could be emo, could be showtunes. And 10k+ people will still show up because they know it's going to be an amazing show no matter what. It is simply time to Moom.
Often my favorite parts of those karaokes is when she's just chillin and practicing the parts of the songs she just sang. She just kind of forgets that we're watching and just... plays.

I remember, one time, she did a Loop Karaoke Vertical Stream of an old Japanese song up until midnight. And even if she was already asleep, the stream and the music is still going.
While not active anymore, Tsukumo Sana was a founding member of Council, now known as Promise.(she graduated partially due to health issues, and partially because she wanted to focus on her irl job as an artist) She only has one original song, Astrogirl, which I highly recommend. While she may be gone, we won't forget her. Even Promise's logo features 5 equally sized stars, one for each talent, and one bigger star, representing Sana, as she was the speaker of Space, and Sana is Beeg. You might be able to slot her song in before some of the combined generation songs, if you decide to check those out as well.
Mumei is a solid artist with a… unique taste. She is the Guardian of Civilization, and that includes certain… implications. One of her most iconic art pieces is that of a somewhat Eldritch face.
The great thing about the last one is that that was not a formal, produced cover. That was just Mumei going off on a karaoke stream. It was then clipped, possibly cleaned up a little, and lyrics were added by a fan. But yeah, Mumei has a great sense when it comes to music. The talents will often have 3D lives, which are special perhormance streams to celebrate birthdays and such. Mumei did one recently that was really standout, with a bunch of acoustic guitar and campfire songs.
One of the most memorable pieces of lore about Mumei, which becomes evident in the song Mumei as well as her cover of A Forgotten Song, is the idea of forgetfulness. Nanashi Mumei is the guardian of civilization, but Nanashi Mumei was not always her name. She claims to have had many names that she's forgotten over the millenia, with Nanashi Mumei (literally translating to "no-name nameless") just being the most recent. She claimed this forgetfulness as part of her official lore as a kayfabe way to explain why (the performer) wouldn't be able to answer extensive questions or comment in-depth about human history, despite (the character) being the guardian of civilization who would have witnessed it all firsthand. This then spread to her mascot, the paper bag you see in A New Start, named "Friend" because she would always forget his name, but would never forget that he's her friend. As well as her IRL dog occasionally heard in the background, which she refers to as "Animal". Fun extra fact: After about a while of streaming and the fans getting overly parasocial with her paper bag mascot, she retconned Friend's lore that she named it "Friend" because she gets so annoyed with it that she needs to keep reminding herself that it's supposed to be her friend rather than her enemy.
Fun fact about the song Mumei: She sang this song at the show that happens every year at JP. She was super nervous because she is not a singer (she is still learning) and it was her solo song. Everyone in the audience knew this and sang along with her and you could hear in the background "Don't be afraid, do your best"... She really started to let go a lot more in the middle of the song. It was really beautiful to see.
Moom is always doubting herself. I remember her sounding like a nervous wreck when she sang that (I think) Naruto OP as her first public vocal performance. Seeing her grow as an entertainer has been really cool.
She has mentioned on stream she has loved singing for a long time but wasn't able to sing very loudly where she lived in past. So her being able to finally let herself shine has been a blessing.
Before the show, you should see the concert theme song "breaking dimensions", as well as the 3 units theme songs "rebellion," "our promise," & "non-fiction"
Mumei is the Japanese term for unnamed, or nameless (like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). It's also used when people want to sign something as "Anonymous". And, of course, it's her name. So in each of the verses of the song "mumei" it plays on one of those meanings. And yes, big Porter Robinson vibes. I know you already did a Bae episode, but you should really lister to her cover of A Million Miles Away. And if/when you get to Suisei, don't miss her cover of Kakesui.
Yeah that's definitely the standout thing from hololive. They all specialize in different things. Definitely check out the Breaking Dimensions MV as the finale before the concert, because that's gonna be what they'll be performing there.
You’ve now gotten a quick crash course on the music of Myth and Promise individually. A speed run Fauna would be proud of, lol. If I could recommend something that will probably be performed at the concert are the group songs. Like others mentioned Hololive English is made up of currently 4 generations or gens (I guess you could consider them like K-pop units I think) and each gen has some group songs Myth: Non Fiction, Journey Like a Thousand Years, ReUnion Promise: Rise, Our Promise Advent: Rebellion, Sirens Bonus points just for fun: Ochame Kinou - English version It’s fun watching you enjoy how talented Hololive EN is (and this is just the music!). It’s like getting to share a secret about a really awesome thing that some of us have know for 4 years now. Take care of yourself and make sure you keep that positive attitude! Also no worries, there are more multistans in the Hololive community then you think. This is only the tip of the iceberg! (You really wanna blow your mind? Look up how many active talents there are in Hololive JP and ID)
Promise is by far my favorite gen of EN mainly because I started watching Hololive right before Irys debuted and as soon a Council debuted I was hooked, Kronii, Mumei, and Fauna are my top 3 favorites in all of Hololive, and so happy seeing new faces reacting to all of these amazing and talented ladies, and real happy you like our cute crazy little towl, she has such a gorgeous voice and in my opinion is one of the best singers in all of Hololive
Wow, Mindcraft sang by all of hololiveEN might just break this man, in the best way. Be ready my man, there is still so much more to love. Welcome to the rabbit hole. We have cookies.
I wouldn't call Mumei a singer, but don't get me wrong tho, her singing is really solid. She's more a jack of all trades, good at singing, drawing, gaming and being an adorable dork. Don't get fooled by her cute appearance tho, she definitely has a dark side which comes through every now and then. Also she isn't really supposed to be an adventurer, but the guardian/keeper of civilization. Which is quite funny, since she's pretty forgetful. Her name translates to "anonymous nameless" btw.
Mumei is almost always a highlight of the live shows. What I love about her voice is light and airy but with that husk in it, it sounds unique even amongst the myriad of light and airy vocalists that Holo has. Some folks say she's not a singer, but she is - she's just very untrained and very raw. She's also had a nearly full year's worth of a fight with post nasal drip and is a life long asthmatic that has issues with sustained power in her vocals. When she is confident in herself, she is easily one of the best EN singers and one of the top singers in Hololive as a whole. I hope she busts out low voice mooms in one of these concerts because it is a treat to hear. mumei is my absolute favorite song in hololive. It is well produced and tells the best story, and fits Mumei the character and Mumei the vocalist behind her so well. So good. As a whole, Promise is just an underrated gen. Bae has the highest ceiling, Mumei can develop into certified powerhouse when she gets more confident, Irys has the potential to be Holo's next pop star a la Suisei - if she wants, Fauna's still learning but has one of the best speaking voices in all of holo, and Kronii is unpolished but powerful as a contralto. They also have the best onscreen chemistry as a group.
Mumei does have amazing voice and she is one of the best HoloEN singer but since Justice Debuted and after ERB(Elizabeth) has debut the bar has gone up high and i think she hold the best EN singer with amazing high notes and amazing voice control. with all holo Suisei still hold the best singer title with Towa
would love to also see you react to the other three guests for the consert suisei, kobo and Korone!! especialy Kobo (as she is my favorite beside Towa), her overdose cover are amazing!!!
You don’t need to worry about starting wars in the comments as long as you don’t straight up attack a talent. All the fanbases get along with each other, because all the talents regularly collab with each other and it feels like a big extended family. Hololive fans who like everyone are called DD (daredemo daisuki). There’s so much variety in genre and style within hololive, anyone can find a favorite.
We're moomin now. Anyway, I would say with maybe one exception (azki) every single Hololive talent is first and foremost a streamer. And 90% of them are comedians.
I agree with you that we as Hololive fans can find their favorite music among each of the talents. My kami-oshi Gawr Gura has a lot of musical qualities that overlap Mumei's. They both emphasize soft head mix with twang and personalized interpretation of the covers in their karaoke sessions; their song selection overlap a great deal including popular tracks from Imagine Dragons, Taylor Swift, Joji but also differ in their interpretation and song selection. For example, Mumei sometimes switches up her vocal tone to a more operatic style in the middle of her songs. Gura sings amazing renditions of Disney movie, City Pop, Jazzy songs. Mumei sings amazing renditions of Broadway hits, MCR, country songs. For a more apples-to-apple evaluation of the Hololive talents' music, please find their clips of high frequency chat requests from their karaoke sessions, such as "Cupid" from FIFTY-FIFTY, "Kawaikute Gomen" from Honeyworks, "Love Song" from Taylor Swift, "Enemy" from Imagine Dragons, or "Welcome to the Black Parade" from My Chemical Romance by searching terms "hololive" with name of song in RUclips search. Sometimes you may find someone have already created duet mixes of two hololive talent from their individual karaoke sessions. As an aside, I only wished that Gura would cover "ONLY" from Lee-Hi in her future karaoke. Her smooth soft voice and emotive style would really fit this ballad song.
Please checkout the original artist whoo. He is top tier vocaloid producer that blends math rock, soft rock and post rock. Very underated , but very talented sadly he is not active anymore, i am still waiting his final album since 2021. 😢

Oh! Check out her out singing "through the fire and flames". Epic performance on that one
