    FYI...I just purchased the 8 foot version from Basspro. I want to put the Penn Slammer IV but the 8500 reel foot was too big. wouldn't fit. I'm looking everywhere for details on this matter.

      If you look up a review by Joe Olivas on RUclips he has a couple good reviews and talks about the very issue you are having. For some reason some of the reel seats on the longer rods don’t fit certain reels for some reason. I didn’t remember this until you mentioned it, sorry. You should be able to call Fenwick and they should take care of you their customer service is usually spot on

      I’m buying this rod and putting a 5k Tsunami shield on it. 8500 is a lot of reel for this rod imo

      @@CRonoldo7 I went with the Shimano Saragosa 8000. Seems to be balanced and casting OK. Not really fantastic with 65lb braid.

    Thks for sharing..been using 7ft fenwicks mhfs since 2012..from hawaiis shore for small to big game..Gts..have not caught one on an inshore rod. I prefer the old hmg..not the inshore since I popping 2oz lures and 1/2 oz egglead..the inshore tip is tad softer..the 7.6mh is excellent popping 2.5 oz lures..but for small game tad too heavy..good luck..thks for sharing

    Thank you for your review! I was looking at the 7" medium 2-piece HMG inshore as I also fish from shore and a two piece rod is easier to transport.

    I just ordered the Eagle 2020 version Salmon 10' 6" rod for inshore. Hope it works out well. Been using a Loomis E6X 8' 6" and it's been awesome. 😊 Too bad their warranty now are only 5 years now unless it's a HMG 😕

    Good review Steve. Been in search for a 7ft medium spinning rod that would fish an 1/8oz jighead with paddletail for reds. I have several Dobyns rods for bass fishing and really enjoy everyone. However, the actions seem to be a little to fast for saltwater. Any recommendations? Thanks

      Thanks for the kind words. I haven't really had that much issue with fishing fast action bass rods in the salt. My favorite rod to use is a Daiwa Tatula 7ft Med rod for both bass (ned rigs) and in the salt with paddle tails 1/8-1/4 jig heads. I've got a couple Dobyns rods (Kaden and champions) I've heard the Sierra series is more of a mod fast if you have any of those they would probably work in a Med Dobyns 3 power 703. I definitely would recommend the hmg or hmg elite Med power 7ft I have both and they are great rods for the money. If you want something that is great for both my favorite super light rod would be a Daiwa Tatula 7ft Med power. I live in Florida and have use that rod for weight fishing, snook reds and and also done small, frogs bass fishing in like covered open water. It is such a versatile rod and it is super lightweight. I have it paired with a 3000 Fuego 10lb braid and it balances perfectly. Hope this helps

      @@stevestory8483 welcome! It’s prolly just me not being use to a spinning rod. I struggle with feeling these light jig heads loading up on the back cast and feel that is affecting my accuracy. Was hoping to find a rod with a little softer tip but still have the power for those reds. I like the sierra’s in the 4 power but 3 powers seem a little fragile to me. Appreciate the recommendations. Does the tatula have a soft tip?thanks again, and tight lines

      @@Eyesofthasouth I can understand going from baitcasters to spinning definitely takes getting used to. I think the Daiwa is probably a true fast action and I wouldn't say it's an ultra soft tip. I don't have any issues casting ned rigs that are 1/16 jigs + weight of plastic bait on it. Most of the guys in the area where I am will use 1/8-3/16 jig heads and a plastic with Med power and not have much issues with casting. It's weird there's a ton of fishers in Louisiana and Texas that only use casting rods for salt water so I guess it's to each their own. I just worry mor about corrosion on the baitcaster as I find it's pretty easy to break down a lot of my spinning reels and clean them. I have heard a lot of good things about the TFO professional Med power as well just to give some more options. I feel like most true medium Powers will be fine for fishing for rides and I'd probably prefer not a super soft tip just in case youre throwing shrimp shaped plastics or things like that and piping them off the bottom .

    I really like the rid you described and showed, and I went to Amazon to purchase one, but they come with 1 piece. I need 2 piece rod since I need to transport in my little car.
    Do you think Fenwick made 2 piece rod?

    • @stevestory8483
      @stevestory8483  3 года назад +3

      Thanks 😊 They make a 2 piece in the 7ft Medium version (model# HMGIN70M-FS-2) of this rod. It is the same exact specs as mine. Another really great part about this rod is the lifetime warranty which I only thought covered the blanks but I had some issues with the Epoxy on the guide all I had to do was send pictures of the damage, a picture of receipt, and nine dollars for shipping and they’re sending me a brand new rod so overall I think this is one of the best values for the dollar for 100 bucks with a lifetime warranty

    Would 7 medium or 7 MH be better for inshore?

    • @stevestory8483
      @stevestory8483  2 месяца назад +1

      I think either would be fine. I personally like medium rods, but if you're going after bigger fish, a medium heavy would probably be a little better or throwing a little heavier baits. I usually go with a quarter ounce to 3/8 for a jighead so the medium is fine

      I’ve used mirrodines and small x-raps. It does a decent job. The rod definitely has a softer tip and also I prefer a shorter rod for jerkbaits usually. Hope that helps.
