I live in an apartment on Nob Hill and the green parrots often perch on our fire escapes. It is always the highlight of my day when I see them and listen to their vocalizations.

I like how the filmmaker fell in love with him, and vice versa. Bittner and Irving seem to have good hearts.

In the seventies I was living in an apartment in Sunnyvale CA. It was a morning on my day off when I heard sounds as if I was in a tropical forest. I went out onto my balcony and to my joyous surprise was a large flock of the most colorful parrots. I know this was the flock from San Francisco that had flown their way to where I was living. What an extraordinary experience that was that I’ll never forget. ❤

I watch and hear the Parrots chattering away every morning as they fly towards the Presidio, and then late afternoon as they return to Telegraph Hill, it's been almost 40 years. I bought Marks book and remember him well. Hope everyone goes to see the film. Thank you!

I loved the film. As a native of SF,growing up there in the 1950's I spent time in North Beach and it was a joy to see the woman who ran one of the most beloved of all the espresso cafes in North Beach in the film. I had moved to Oakland, but she was a gem. Also, the film helped me find a home for
my mother's elderly and much neglected parakeet. The film had a segment on a rescuer, who rescued "Mingus" and, having her name I looked her up. Turned out she was spending a Sunday at a San Jose mall. I arranged to hand over my mom's bird to her and I drove down from Oakland, picked up
the bird and took it to her. My mom wasn't happy, but the bird wound up being part of a breeding program and may still be living a very happy life for a boy bird with lots of girl friend birds. I'll always be grateful for the film because it was so informative. I loved Pelican Dreams, too, Judy. Are the
parrots (different kind) still hanging out in the Mission? I have never seen either flock, but I walk every morning I'm in Honolulu by Queen's Surf and there is a flock of green Macaws there and one by Iolani Palace, too. Sometimes I only hear them squawk and sometimes they fly around. Thanks, Mark and Judy.

I'm a retired San Francisco tour guide, having ridden the bus tours, mic in hand, presenting our wonderful city to guests from all over the world. When we'd roll down the Embarcadero on our way to Fisherman's Wharf, we'd often encounter the flock of parrots, so I'd plug the film and give guests a bit of story on them, including a mention that they are "cherry-headed conures."
New hires would spend two weeks training with us and would ride with the seasoned guides, taking notes. One such person, a young woman of about 22 years of age, had ridden my tours three times during her first week, and in the second week toward the end of her training, she said she was ready to take the mic. She did, and I sat near her to observe. She did fine until we encountered the flock of parrots while on our way into the wharf. We stopped for a red light, so she had time to expound on them, and she basically 'parroted' (excuse the pun) everything she'd heard me say, but I cringed a bit when she described them as "cherry-headed condoms."

Oh I enjoyed watching this documentary, occasionally I hear those parrots in the quiet part of SF near the pier and in Telegraph Hill. It’s an odd coincidence that my 19 y.o. parrot 🦜 just passed away recently this year.

I’m from Nicaragua, I remember seeing this birds in 1980, I was confused because it was midd of January, and it was cold, and I know that there’s no rainforest around San Francisco, many years later I saw in the news on PBS, they were talking about this bird’s and I was so happy that I finally got my answer to the mystery of the bird-Loras- in Spanish. Thank you for sharing this story.

I watched that way back then. I became aware of the Telegraph Hill parrots because of it.
I saw them flying by above one day at Fisherman's Wharf.
Had I not seen the documentary, I would not have noticed them. ❤🎉😊

I worked at Kokkari Estiatorio at Front & Jackson on Walton Square when they opened December 1999 and loved having my lunch break on the square watching the parrots. Mark may have even been there! This was Dec 1999-July 2004.

Saw those parrots during Navy Week 2022 on Telegraph Hill on 3 story apartment building. They have a regular daily routine flying from area to area searching for fruit trees. Saw another group in Sunnyvale flying around El Camino Real . So if you hear screeching…that’s them. It always lifts my spirits to see these exotic birds in suburbia!

I want to make it clear, I’m talking about seeing the parrot’s in January-1980, I was staying with a friend of my family around Potrero and 24 Street, for about a week, I just came from Nicaragua, and the only reason I remember it because the sound of the flocks was a child memory’s in strange city.
And not just in San Francisco, I remember hearing them around Fremont California. On top of that, the size of the flocks was pretty good sized. It’s doesn’t added the story of early 90s, being released.
I’m 65 years old, I do have a good memory, I’m not confused or making a false witness. I saw and I heard what was there… new in a strange place with a familiar sound of my childhood.

Worst interview ever! This flamboyant interviewer obviously didn't do his research for the following reasons: 1. He identified Mark as having been homeless when in fact he was living in a caretaker's home on Telegraph Hill during that time; 2. He knew nothing about the fact that Mark had written a book about his experience entitled, "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill"; and 3. He did not even have the common sense to make the link between rate poison and the fact that someone or more than one person have been poisoning the parrots to kill them off. Good luck Mark!
