Had the privilege to see RaZZ perform at the 2024 Abbotsford International Air Show and I'm always in awe of the Raptor demo. It was really cool to see the demo during the Friday twilight show.
The F22 is a phenomenal aircraft, I have seen the demo often and every single time it amazes me with its maneuverability. It really defies aerodynamic logic. Great interview.
Jello - this was such a great video of teamwork, professionalism, dedication and commitment to perfection. Especially with such a small team of 14 people - how they represent the USAF. They are all an example of what every individual in an organization should be like if you want that team to be the best of the best !
Additionally, as a former Navy enlisted (AT on the EA-3B, EP-3E and A-6) I thank you for featuring the MSgt along with the Major. It is obvious they have the utmost respect for each other and make a great team.
I was at an airshow at MCAS Cherry Point and had the opportunity to see this team out on their own time eating in a seafood restaurant near Atlantic Beach. This team is very impressive and accommodating. Obviously, all eyes were on them as they were in their team uniforms. It looked as if they were having dinner with teammates and even their families. I didn't matter who interrupted their dinner, they stopped what they were doing and spoke to each and every person that approached them; sometimes taking 20 minutes or longer to make their visitor feel like they were the only one that mattered. Extremely impressed by their skill, but more importantly, their humbleness and love for their fans.
Got to see RaZZ multiple times at OSH this year and even talked to him with some guys he knew, he was such a great guy. Spencer's videos are amazing, always look forward to see them.

Amazing! John and Razz obviously know their stuff and this interview really showcased their joy and professionalism. We have been able to see the F-22 at the last few Avalon airshows downunder and whatever I am doing, I make sure I'm on the flight line for it - such a beautiful jet and sometimes I can't tell if it is still on script, or falling out of the sky.

Jello your interview skills are really incredible, like these demo team individuals I believe you are getting better and better. Really love this podcast and the amazing attention to detail and production value, it’s amazing to see how far this podcast has come. Good on you, keep up the great work and God Bless.
Thank you for the glowing feedback, Eric. In true fighter pilot fashion, I can still point out plenty of flaws in my performance (out-of-focus cameras, for one) but we are always improving. Cheers!
Dirt Dive, I love it! That's what we skydivers in the late '70s called our ground practice where we ran through each freefall formation we had planned, down to the exact slot for each person. Dirt diving was especially important for us when doing multiple, sequential formations. You made me grin hearing you say it😊
My father might actually be an interesting guest to have on. Retired USAF 0-6. Flew F4's out of Udorn into Vietnam at the tail end. Was one of the F-4's involved in the Mayaguez incident. Fighter Weapons school grad and instructor. Range officer at Zaragoza. Was the chief of offensive Air Operations at HQ2ATAF at RAF Rheindahlen. Then we went to RAF Alconbury and he was the squadron commander for the 511th TFS and took his A-10's to Desert Storm. OPS Group commander at Osan in the mid 90's. 13th AF Vice, and his last assignment was DDO for PACOM. Original callsign was Maverick but after a certain movie came out he changed it to Irish lol.
The Raptor Demo Team is awesome 👌- we flew a WWII warbird into Oceana a while back and the demo pilot (‘Loco at the time) climbed up and sat in the cockpit. Had to be bizarre going from the most capable 5th gen aircraft into a 75yo one. As busy as their airshow days were, he took the time to give us a personal tour of the Raptor and let us check it out (well, everyone was busy talking to him, I think I was the only one rolling around on the ground checking out the plane / weapons bays and stuff the whole time - basically a dream come true for me 😂.) Wish I could have talked to the crew chief or maintainers too, but I’m sure they were enjoying whatever brief downtime they could get. Plus I’d probably be asking questions they’re not allowed to answer anyways (believe me, when you see this thing up close, a LOT of stuff jumps out at you that you wouldn’t otherwise notice.) The craziest thing for me was the primary weapons bay - it’s difficult to get a sense of scale for this plane as it just looks “compact” and sleek, but I swear you could fit a small car in that bay! 😮
The definition of professionalism from these dudes... despite the ongoing shitshow that they have to deal with day to day. The love of aviation will always shine through and always should. Lets bring them back in 5 years for the true stories, thats what us older guys want to hear 😂
Although I was a Marine musician for 11 years and have always loved the idea of carrier operations because of the original Top Gun movie, I've always had a special place in my heart for the F-22 from growing up playing the Sega Genesis F-22 game way back in the day. Hoping I can get my channel big enough to swing a ride in a fighter someday, lol. DCS in VR is pretty amazing, but there's no replacement for the real thing.
The F-22 Demo is like a Harrier demo, almost all of it is in front of the crowd. I went from not having seen the F-22 demo to seeing it 6 times in 2023. 5 of those were at Razz's first show at Barksdale, the first one being when him and Cabo came in on Thursday and they both flew the act. The pyro field is a great place to watch an airshow from. It is an awesome act that still gives me goosebumps. The real behind the scenes question is: after 2 seasons, is Razz still using more afterburner than Cabo did? lol
I've met Maj, Larson & Lugo many many times I first met RaZZ at his hometown show last year and have and would consider everyone on the team family. Also saw the Demo team up at Oshkosh this year & last. I will admit I'm very biased considering there are lots of Iowa connections on the F22 demo team this season.
The intake bleed doors on the F-22 are really mean looking with the stealth sawtooth edges. If you can see the jet starting up, they open and close during the control surface tests. I wonder how the F-22 decides which side to launch a flare from? Can the pilot control it, is it random, or is there some other logic behind it?
They should upgrade the Raptor, in these uncertain times it can come handy, the power of the US was for me always the versatility in jets they have. For each job a platform. Yes it has a cost, but war also cost a lot. If you have prevention in place. It's cheaper to invest in your material.
Awesome show. MSgt Lugo did an outstanding job representing the Air Force enlisted ranks. Major Larson demonstrates the F-22 Raptor is one awesome aircraft. Major Larson it’s Master Sergeant or Master Sergeant Lugo not John. He deserves the respect of his rank just as much as you. Go Navy!
