    "And I'm running out of film, gee, I hope I've got enough to film the crash!" (2:08) Good unflappable Air Traffic Controllers there 🤣

    If you notice, the takeoff was done with the wind (not against it as usual) as there is slowly rising ground to the north (in the other direction in canberra). It was also a hot evening (35 degrees+) and canberra is at altitude so reduced lift. It was also fully laden. Imagine if you were the pilot sitting at the first entrance way waiting to take off in the other direction and that thing went past STILL on the ground.

      Glad you pointed out the wind. Must have the seen the windsock? I was intently focused on the big beast lumbering down the runway. But, if you're right, even a 1 knot headwind component would have been a big help to the Vodka burner. And even a slight tailwind hurt his performance at a time when he clearly needed even inch of runway available!

      also a deflector, then a fence then a road going the other way.

      Windsock visible in the foreground at 1:21 seems to show a crosswind from their right with just a hint of tailwind component.

    HAHAHA I love this. Everything about it. The shit heavy Russian and the great ATC sense of humour. I bet there were wheel marks in the dirt over the edge of that tarmac..

      Ash .S When you tell Russians to use a runway they use all of runway or at least as much as it takes to down the 4 shots of Vodka until they can pull up

    Nearly all the pilots are Afghan or Chechen vets so have a tendency to fly like they still being shot at.

      I think it looked way slower than a takeoff usually does, and it used all of the runway which they don't normally have to do?

    Did he run out of runway?
    By Inches or feet, but did he lift off past the threshold?
    I can't tell on my phone screen.
    Or does it even make a difference? He certainly isn't at the required 35 feet at the end of the runway!
    Tak!
    Also, How long is that runway, anyone?

    • @Enzo187
      @Enzo187 2 года назад

      il-76 can use unpaved runways so assuming it was mostly flat grass he could have kept rolling

      At YSCB, RWY 17/35 length is 3,283m / 10,771 ft. I believe this departure would be off RWY 17. Aerodrome elevation 575m/1,886 ft.

    That smacks of some very unprofessional weight calculations. Inches from disaster. Nothing clever about this. Deserves a full enquiry.
