I can fully believe this story growing up in Manchester in the 80’s and 90’s there was a big traveler population , there still is today but I’ve heard stories about people keeping horses in the house or their back garden of their council flat it’s definitely got some truth to it
As an Irishman i can and im sure many others could too, tell you some weird enough places horses end up. Had a lad walk a Shetland pony through a spar a few years back showing off its massive fifth leg. It was closing shift tho so some leniency for madness
I know its a bit later but always felt this was the story that really started it all, in particular their long partnership

Tbf my gran used to be a district nurse and she told me she used to have to go round a house on a council estate in Swansea and there was a horse upstairs.

I saw that in Chessington, as someone else said, it's a traveller thing and there's travellers all over.
My family once found one that was tied up I a field, but it had made several attempts to free itself due to deep scars in its flesh

Definitely a traveller / Northern thing. I've seen ponies in people's yards.
I'd say more of a traveller thing for sure. I've seen horses around Abbey Wood, Chessington and other parts of outer London areas.
