I was 6 years old when this came out. Dad used to play it for mom. Dad passed away 10 years ago. I still Remember him everytime I hear this song. The 80 were the greatest time to be alive.
boostedscooby1 this song always takes me back to meeting my beloved .... he went to heaven the day after our 19the wedding anniversary 11 years ago ...bet he & your dad are smiling now knowing this song makes us think of them👌🙌🕊
The 80’s were the last great decade for Rock music. Seems like every other song had great saxophone and keyboard. No one is making music like this anymore. But thank God we still have this to love forever!
It looks and feels so different to see an audience listening intently to the artists as opposed to a more modern audience where you can see most of them raising and looking at their cell phones to record what is happening.
What is it about some songs... they get past all your defenses and get to the very heart of our emotions. They can make you happy when you're sad, make you sad when you're happy, make you melancholy for another time in your life, and make you hopeful for the future. This is one of those songs. I love this stuff....
+Batt Mann How true! I had pretty much forgotten this tune until a few months ago I ran across it and since then cannot get enough of it. Brings back so many fond memories, emotions, and sad ones to but really gets to my soul!
I haven't heard this song in years. I came across today in a mixed cd. I played it 10 times today on full blast. The singing, instruments and HOW ABOUT THAT SAX? unbelievable and wicked. Glad I discovered that mixed cd.
One of the GREATEST love songs ever written. You, can really feel the passion they had for each other. To think they where at one time thinking of letting Whitney Houston sing this song. So, glad they chose to keep it for themselves. It's been one of my favorite songs for the last 20 years.
Paul K I totally agree Paul. This has to be one of the most romantic songs ever written and the nicest thing of all about it is the fact they were a married couple. I am hoping to have this as my first dance song when I get to marry the special lady in my life.
Anyone else find that this song causes a few tears to escape your eyes, yet in a melancholy way rather than sorrowfully? Guess it makes me think of someone who is extremely important to me, even after 35 years...
This is a fabulous song! "Waiting for a star to fall, carry your heart into my arms, that's where you belong, in my arms, baby, yeah." Now, that's LOVE! Fun Fact: George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam (not sure of that spelling) not only wrote *this* romantic song, they wrote *two* Number 1 hits for Whitney Houston! "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)"!! Cool, huh?
Vincent --- I agree. My eyes tear up every single time i listen to this song. George and Shannon were so talented. Man. i miss the 70's and 80's music. Thank goodness we have RUclips to bring it all back.
I also fell in love with this song, first time I heard it and watched it on MTV, wow I was hooked on a beautiful love song. Waiting for a star to fall and carry your heart into my arms baby yeah. And I also loved Shannon, her smile, how she smiled during filming of their music video, and she had a lovely voice. A beautiful song and memory that warms my heart through all these years and still through today. Trying to Catch...
I have been eternally grateful for that. I wasn't a big Whitney Houston fan, and if memory serves, it was potentially going to be licensed to her, as other songs of their were...SO glad they did this themselves, it is an 80's masterpiece.
Brilliant song! I remember listening to this song in the late 1980's. Wow! they wrote to songs for Whitney Houston to sing. "How would I Know", and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
This song reminds me of my younger brother. He was 20 at the time. Full of life, loved by many. I cherish the memories that live on in my heart. ❤ RIP little bro 🌈 🕊 🙏 💫
The Saxophone is what seals it for me with this song. I just have this thing for saxophones in 80s music no matter the style. That and this song is just one of those song that has a feel good feeling about it.
The 80s has gotta be the only decade where obscure people/bands could materialize out of nowhere write one amazing timeless song and then disappear. Man what a great time it was.
I think I was too young to have heard it (or remember hearing it) when it first debuted. Now I'm almost 40, and every time I hear it, it gets better. I suppose some songs have a way of getting better with time.
"I wish I didn't feel so strong about ya, like happiness and love revolve around ya." "I can't love you this much baby, and love you from this far." Those lines make me weepy because of an on-line friendship that developed, and then disappeared. We kind of adopted this as our song since he was all the way across the country.
Yep....someone who I only met a year ago and is possibly the best person I have ever met. It's like she is a "star waiting to fall....straight into my arms"
So true!!! You could actually go on a date and they were normal. 😊😊😊 Also if the date didn't work out you can stay and listen to the band with your friends!!! 😊😊😊
The singing, harmonies, keyboards, awesome bass, drums in the pocket, great chord progressions, sound design, arrangement and production. All top notch. No autotune required lol. A great song for so many reasons 😀
everytime i hear this song i remember 1989, i was 16 years old, that was one of my best times, and this song bring me to that time, thanks Boy Meets Girld for this song, its my favorite..
These were the days when music made you feel good & still does today, what is it with today's shit i sound like a stuck record always repeating myself, i just can't believe how shit today's shit actually is, long live the 80's :)
Always loved this song. Heard George do a slower solo version on electric keyboard, also great but sadder sounding...sadder yet was learning they'd divorced in 2000. Finally, saddest of all, Shannon hasn't looked me up.🤗
The drummer is propelling the entire song along and just listen to that shimmering duet chorus "Waiting For A Star To Fall And Carry Your Heart Into My Arms Thats Where You Belong In My Arms Baby Ya! Is sooooooooo nice...
Back when music had meaning and feeling ! So many memories
and hair!
Amen🎼🎶🫶🏼 ❤❤❤❤❤🎶🫶🏼🎼
This such a beautiful song 🎵 the music today just doesn't compare 80s ✨️🦋✨️
I was 6 years old when this came out. Dad used to play it for mom. Dad passed away 10 years ago. I still Remember him everytime I hear this song. The 80 were the greatest time to be alive.
Huzzah! 👍👍💓
What country do you live in
Not live! 👎🏻👎🏻
お父さんは、星になり、あなたを見守ってくれているはずです。

Yup, saxophone feature in Hall and Oates ManEater, Huey Lewise Hip to Be Square, etc.
The retrospective of 80s hits with this song as the theme, is AWESOME. The nostalgia is almost painful...
And also harmonica solos were used. Like Michael Monroe (of Hanoi Rocks) used in one of his songs.
Everybody here knows this is a great song lyrically, but he's a hell of a singer too
So True!
Wow I love both of their voices. I'm so thankful to have grew up to best decade of music
Grown
Didn’t realize how much I like this song till now.....30 years later! Pure music!
Awesome fun times in the"80"s!!!!
One of the best songs of the 80's
i agree
Yes and Feel good song. I miss the 80s music.😊
It looks and feels so different to see an audience listening intently to the artists as opposed to a more modern audience where you can see most of them raising and looking at their cell phones to record what is happening.
What are your other favorites?

I was 31 years old when this came out. It is a great tune that has lasted the test of time.

This classic masterpiece still gives me goose bumps all these yrs later..................BRAVO!
Finally found this song. Whata great song. So much better than most music today

I was thinking the same exact thing!
It was Whitney who refused it. Belinda Carlisle refused the song too, so Boy Meets Girl recorded it themselves and so it became a masterpiece.
Too bad, they are no longer together.
Anyone else find that this song causes a few tears to escape your eyes, yet in a melancholy way rather than sorrowfully? Guess it makes me think of someone who is extremely important to me, even after 35 years...

I wish they sang those other two songs...
Shimmering and irresistible musical magic!
Pretty hard to believe this jewel of a song never hit number one...
Great song. Happy song. Reminds me of my younger days in Myrtle Beach, SC working as a bar tender. Wonderful times.
Im glad that they recorded this themselves. Sometimes songs sound better coming from the people who write them.
It's 2020 still one of the best song in my play list.
What came from the heart easy enter the others hearts
I have been eternally grateful for that. I wasn't a big Whitney Houston fan, and if memory serves, it was potentially going to be licensed to her, as other songs of their were...SO glad they did this themselves, it is an 80's masterpiece.
One of the best records ever made in the 80s, the Sax 🎷 at the start gets me every time, it's a beautiful record 💖💖💖💖💖 and both amazing voices
Good old eighties. No pretence just enjoying themselves.

Brilliant song! I remember listening to this song in the late 1980's. Wow! they wrote to songs for Whitney Houston to sing. "How would I Know", and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody"
Absolutely one of the last great songs of the fabulous 80’s!

I still cry when I listen to this...I'll miss her forever. So many opportunities for us to be together but life interfered...
I love this group. This song is the best. I wish there are more songs like this in 2021.
A great song from a great band ! I miss the 80s and 90s very much;(
The 80s has gotta be the only decade where obscure people/bands could materialize out of nowhere write one amazing timeless song and then disappear.
Man what a great time it was.
Actually Shannon was behind a lot of 80's artist with some of her most famous songs going to Whitney Houston
Awesome!!! Fun!!! 😊😊😊
Great pieces like this stands the test of time. Still love it after all these years.
Love this song! Breaks my heart that they are divorced now.
I think I was too young to have heard it (or remember hearing it) when it first debuted. Now I'm almost 40, and every time I hear it, it gets better. I suppose some songs have a way of getting better with time.
😊😊😊
So beautiful and sadly underrated,..but us who knows it’s existence are blessed 🙏🏻😉❤️
I grew up in 60s but some of the best music came out of the 80s. Everything from pop to R&B to hair bands. Some great stuff.

The singing, harmonies, keyboards, awesome bass, drums in the pocket, great chord progressions, sound design, arrangement and production. All top notch. No autotune required lol.
A great song for so many reasons 😀
Yes, it is incredibly staggering. The intro in particular is divine. It dropped out of a vault in heaven.
