For a number of months since I started to learn what these are like in their new state, I'd been wanting to showcase these on this channel. I refused to film them whilst they were still hybrids but now they've been converted to diesel, I rather like them. Ever since I realised that they are similar to Reading's and are constantly doing kickdowns around Oxford, I've been wanting to film them. Some also seem to have loud whiny ZFs similar to old Tridents like 308-309!
Confusingly the BROOKESbus U1 was merged with the Park & Ride 400, so has been extended to cover the U1 routing into the Brookes Uni student campuses at Harcourt Hill and Wheatley but still go into the P&R sites at *Seacourt and Thornhill, yet unlike the U1 is still limited stop down the Botley Road. So stops U1 used to serve now no longer are unlike the 4A these can also end up on! Stupid change for no reason at all, only confusing people needlessly...
*Not in this video because 400s were bunching lol, this ran less than 5 mins behind 310
And of course no road traffic can still pass under the rail bridge on Botley Road, so the 400 is split in two halves (like the 108 does in London whenever the Blackwall Tunnel is closed). If you are looking to do this route, stick to the Wheatley end as that has a lot more to film up Headington "Hill" and has a 3-4 min thrash section on the A40 east of Thornhill P&R
This bus was working Park & Ride 400: Harcourt Hill Campus - Oxford, Osney Island

    Great Kickdown :)

Same engine as an Enviro200 dart! Much higher revs which sound awesome on this because of the ZF

Agreed! That’s why I like this - higher revs and the ZF is similar to those old Tridents I love. I don’t like normal E200 Darts or E20Ds despite having the same 4 cylinder engine

For an Ex hybrid E400 that has a 4.5 litre Cummings ISB engine sounds really nice in my opinion. Those Axles are just fantastic. Love the facts these axle's sings as the bus picks up more speed.

And I love the fact I often see them being kicked down the Botley Road! I saw a purple ex city4 one doing just that on a 400 (I think? Could have been a 4A too)

From what ive heard over the years, the axles seem to get to a higher pitch faster on a ZF box which is interesting.
I remember coming into Oxford and seeing the first one had been done and was pleasantly surprised theyd chosen Ecomat like Reading Buses had done.

Anything from 300 to 317 is an ex hybrid E400. 300 is unique in being the only one WITH windscreen seat as it was new to Thames Travel pre Go Ahead, the others do not have those seats

Man this sounds extremely odd the engine sounds like a enviro 200 and the axels sounds like a euro 4 ZF trindent very weird combination, it sounds so funny😂 though.

    • @Transport-Coolfunr
      @Transport-Coolfunr 10 месяцев назад +1

Thats because hybrids use the same engine as the envir0 200.
Since the battery was taken out and swapped with a gear box which they chosen a zf ecomat its gunna have a weird twist to it

I find it weird how some E400s have E200 engines, whilst some E200s have E400 engines!

@@ChilternTransportProductionsbut what makes this weider is that it has the same whining axels as a euro 4 ZF trindent and the engine sounding like a e200, never ever seen this sound combination.

Ecolifes slow? Have you seen how our 12 reg Citaros with Arriva at Wycombe and Aylesbury depots eat hills for breakfast? The hills around Wycombe are bloody steep by the way!
Just to clarify, those specific Citaros are Ecolife whilst others of the same age tend to be Ecomat. Don’t ask me why Arriva choose to do that, I’m none the wiser too
