  • World-renowned educator, Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, speaks about the purpose and impact of One City Schools' unique and highly innnovative public charter schools.
    Dr. Ladson-Billings is Professor Emerita and formerly the Kellner Family Distinguished Professor of Urban Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the author of "The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children" along with several other notable books, and the proginator of "Culturally Relevant Teaching".
    Culturally Relevant Teaching is an instructional approach that "requires a focus on students’ learning, an attempt to develop their cultural competence, and to increase their sociopolitical or critical consciousness".
    Dr. Ladson-Billings is also past president of the American Education Research Association (AERA), an elected member of the National Academy of Education and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of The British Academy. She has served on the Board of Directors of One City Schools for six years.
