The palm heel strike is very effective for a number of reasons and can set up other things. And a lot less chance of crippling your hand compared to fists. It ain’t a slap. It’s a bone strike. If people think it’s a joke, it’s only because of ignorance

I have talked about the power of palm strikes so many times, and so many people think it’s a joke as a strike!

Check out some of Bas Rutten's Pancrase fights for some awesome palm strikes/slaps.
I believe that in a match with bare hands it is better to use open hand strikes. bas rutten knocked people out with just those.
