      Glad I could help! I personally love Parallax mapping but there is no way to really grasp parallax without even knowing the basic system. I see a lot of maps out there with RTP that have weird perspectives and odd practices so I want to try and help out for those people who don' parallax map as well!

      @@zawash Pretty much about a girl going on a quest to retrieve these powerful cards to become a mage. However her goal shifts when the main villain of the game threatens the world. That’s when she decides to use the cards to try and defeat the villain. Stock plot, but I don’t wanna get too ambitious for my first video game. 🤣

    • @zawash
      @zawash Год назад +1

      @@NoahPopejoy lol I feel that, for my game i'm also doing a stock plot;
      a young man gathers a group of 3 other adventurers to defeat a genocidal wizard maniac.
      although, I think that since it's hard for us indie devs to really put our name out there when it comes to games (partially because there's millions of us), i wanna make a game that really shines when it comes to it's themes.
      sometimes even the "stockiest" of game-play and the "stockiest" of narratives can bring the strongest of themes, ones that are universal and open discussion in a powerful way.

    • @NoahPopejoy
      @NoahPopejoy Год назад

      @@zawash Oh yeah. Stock plots still have potential. And I do touch on certain themes. The main one being vengeance. But that comes in near the end. I mostly fill it with comedy and well known anime voice actors like Lizzie Freeman and Sean Chiplock. 😅

It's very well explained, easy to follow and you don't just go 'dont use the tiles provided by the engine' (Which I know we're supposed to do cause everyone uses them and yadda yadda, but you showed us we can still do very cool non-rectangular houses with the tools we're given and I think that's neat)

    Your house details look great! The reason houses tend to be 2 tiles high is because the character sprites are 48 pixels tall, but map tiles are 32^2. You're making the house exteriors shorter than a bookshelf. As for shadows, if you look at a tree, it goes left-right. If your house is 2 tiles deep, then so should be the shadow. You can really sell depth in a 2D game with just the lighting.

    Great tips! That's funny, I like adding barrels too. It must be such an rpg staple that it is just ingrained in us to have them all over.
    I am trying to make a small house/hut that's in the woods with tons of forest surrounding it but having trouble making it look good. I started by just filling the map with the close tree tiles then removing them to add a path and a house but trying to clean up the removed parts didn't look great. Any tips would be appreciated. Keep up the great videos! Very helpful!

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  4 года назад +2

      How I like to do things like forests is start with a green grass. Then go over the map randomly with the long grass tile making patches here and there. Then I grab the weed tiles, those small grass tiles, and I'll get the first weed tile and randomly scatter it around the map. Then I'll get the second weed tile and randomly scatter it around the map and do it for all of the weed tiles and flower tiles. After that I block the edges of the map out with either trees, cliffs or rivers and then I randomly scatter trees within the inside of the map until it's full. Then I do what you've done and draw a path in the middle, build the house and clear any trees as needed. The same as if someone had just come through to a natural area and cut down the trees to build a house.

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  4 года назад +1

      LvL Up Design a big city without the map being just roofs.

    • @LvLUpDesign

    How do you design houses if the character is 2 blocks tall?

  • @tillow9511
    @tillow9511 3 года назад

    I would’ve added a flower or regular garden to the big house

  • @TheCyclicGamer
    @TheCyclicGamer 6 месяцев назад

    Are you sure those proportions are correct? Because if you're just going by the height of the character sprites, then that means for the first house, the roof is almost touching the character's head. Like they wouldn't be able to jump in it without smacking their head on the ceiling. How do you account for stairs, walls, and multiple rooms inside the structures themselves? Wouldn't this create a TARDIS effect, where the interior is bigger than the exterior?

    • @LvLUpDesign
      @LvLUpDesign  6 месяцев назад

      Pretty much yes, this creates the Tardis effect. An important element of GD is suspended disbelief where as a player "Generally," is not going to think of the specifics of interior and exterior tile heights and how it translates.
      You are free to design houses however you wish but the problem with the tile map is if you make the house 2 tiles high, then you make it so that the interior is twice the height of the player, which is a bit weird to look at.
      The best way around it is to learn parallax mapping and create heights at 1.5 player height. But really, you don't need to worry too much about the tardis effect. Look at many other pixel art games, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Golden Sun. All of them have this Tardis effect.

    • @TheCyclicGamer
      @TheCyclicGamer 6 месяцев назад

      @@LvLUpDesign Ok, thank you. I ain't doing parallax mapping though, too time consuming for what I'm going with.

    • @LvLUpDesign

      Thanks for the Question. Those are called region ID. You can use them to check if specific events are in those regions, and some plugins use regions to test for other things. It's a bit more advanced but if you search for rpg maker region ID videos on youtube, your bound to find one.

    argue all you want but, that house is not proportional. have you even seen how big house are, there not supposed to be comparable to people. and if the interior is at all possible with that exterior I wouldn't want to live in that house. as a general rule all thumb, make sure the interior fits inside the exterior(unless the house is supposed to be like the tardis).
