Thank you Doctor. Best part was 1.12.40 when you admitted that diet is key word for treatment.

Around the 7 minute mark you begin speaking about the subject of Central Sensitization in a way.
Anyone with chronic pain would do well for themselves researching that subject.
I recommend the channel PAINWeek, and Dr. Forest Tennant. A video titled something like 'chronic pain: a disease of the mind ' is a good one.
Quick description is chronic for so long, the well established neural pathway gets used in other ways, resulting in physical pain from stresses and emotional pains.
Interesting treatments involved using mirrors and positive talk about treatments and healing.

I don't have the protein B27 but I definitely have spondyloarthritis. It's so horrible this disease and really there is no cure, it'll ruin your body sooner or later. Doctors always said exercise to me, it was the worst thing ever, whenever I've done any exercise I've got another problem and now they still say it, all my joints are in pain, how can I exercise??? Madness

The guidelines are just that, guidlines. My Dr. failed an Ankylosing Spondylitis diagnosis even when I asked multiple times and forced him to test for HLA B27 gene. Came back negative and he was arrogantly satisfied. I also have osteoarthritis so he would ask "How long does it take to loosen up in the morning" Me: 1 to 2 hrs. "Is the pain worse or better after physical activity" ... worse I would say. That would end his investigation. He named it mechanical back pain. Never did the first x-ray or mri or chest expansion test, SIJ x-ray or evaluation. I didnt know the diffrence between back or SI. Same to me. The worst part is I had been positive for PSA for 4 yrs. I went to a orthopedic and he did x-ray and mri and found syndesmophytes. Dr's.... remember.... when questioning patients, you have to learn how to ask the right questions to get the right answer. My Dr. asked as if I knew to differentiate between inflammatory pain and mechanical pain. Now that I have researched it I do. And a proper diagnosis is the difference between the right medical treatment or wrong.

@@SPONDYLITISdotORG Yes I do. Treating the symtoms is sometimes a moving target that need to be adjusted. Im currently on Humaira but have not responded lately so my Dr. suggests I switch to another biologic. My every day pain has increased and the flares have been more frequent. Thanks for the reply.

Hey I didnt realise I was replying to a Dr. lol. Thanks for asking. My wife has had alot of Osteoarthritis but one time her finger swelled up and red. Now think back looks like RA. Can they check her RF now or should she wait to have a flare again if that is what is was?

Thank you so much for this review and insight , Docter Weisman! Out of my own experience, friction, overheating and inflammation is the cause of cells to die in affected joints and ligaments. Around the closest skin area my skin forms blisters and/or skinrash. These cells need to get out of our body, I see.
Secondairly my gut gets inflamed and swollen when eating glutencontaining food. This is pressing on my spine making it harder to keep up a straight posture. So diet changes sure can contribute to a better management of Spa.
Be kind to your body, limit stress on ligaments and joints by stretching with few repetition.
With kindness, Michiel HV ( I'm 51, underweight, slender, B27 negative, celiac patient with SpA).

Very interesting point about force/vibration in triggering the disease. I am b-27 negative and 42 years old male who started mountain biking about six months before my symptoms started. That is an activity which rattles your skeleton around really quite significantly. I wonder know if it kicked AS off...

Prof. Alan Habringer (the scientist that published papers connecting AS with the Klebsiella bacteria) says that there might be a connection with high starch diets with non carriers of the B27 gene. I am interested, do you or have you eaten a diet with a lot of starch? (Breads, potatoes, pasta etc?)

Hi Nagasiva. Our website (spondylitis.org) contains information on different treatments for the disease. However, some of the treatment options in the US are not available in India. If you're currently seeing a rheumatologist, he or she would be the best source for discussing treatment plans for where you live.

You feel it more, like when there is a change in pressure or temperature. Thats true but it is not the cause. You could get the stress all handle how you want, you still have AS for ever.
Biologics are the only thing that worked for me, now living a pretty normal life.
