Best F(r)iends Volume 1 and 2 mark the on screen return of Greg Sestero and Tommy Wiseau. I had a chance to talk with Greg about the challenges of writing two films based on his own life and working with Tommy again.

Tommy is just fun to watch on screen. His presence alone is entertaining.
It really is and I'm fine with that lol
Greg is such a sweetheart he really wants people to view Tommy the way he does....
greg did really well with the way he wrote tommy's character
Tommy and Greg are right up there with Rhett and Link in the BFF hall of fame, and are real life bestie goals.
Yeah also Kenny and Spenny
Nice exclusive interview! You did an amazing job with this one Thomas!
I saw Best F(r)iends at a screening with Tommy and Greg two days ago and this interview and your commentary put into words what I felt, when I watched it. You really get a sense of Tommy's and Greg's true friendship in this movie! After listening to the disaster artist, I was a bit unsure if Greg really still is Tommy's friend or if he maybe puts up with it a bit becuase of the hype and their publick image. But this movie really showed the unique way they both enjoy each others company and the way in which Tommy can be weird and charming that makes him so endearing to Greg and then the audience. As a fan of the Room and the Disaster Artist I cannot recommend watching this film enough! This is something that Greg did for Tommy and for both of them and you can really feel the heart and care put inot it!
Loved seeing a personal interview here! That’s so cool.
I'm with you Tom, I loved the Disaster Artist book and was slightly disappointed that the movie adaptation didn't quite go into all of the deeper elements of their friendship that the book did. I got a newfound respect for Greg after reading the book - so I'm really eager and interested in checking out F(r)iends eventually
Best F(r)iends is definitely a fascinating watch for anyone who's a fan of the book!
Wiseau views Greg as his best friend, Greg in his book lays bare too much personal stuff about tommy just so he can get spicy material for the book. A true friend would never do that.
Fortnite Pro’s If he really didn’t care, he wouldn’t have withheld the information that he did still withhold.
I'm re-reading the disaster artist book, again.
My comments:
1.) They need to make a 2nd movie, but mainly centered on Greg's character. It will be a psychological thriller, because what poor Greg went through. It borders on the plot of the movie, The Talented Mr. Ripley. Greg was sick for half a week after watching that movie. There were real moments(from the book) where it got beyond cringe, dangerous and just WTF. Yeah...seriously. "Breaking News: young aspiring actor body found dead and witnesses say a strange homeless man was running away from the scene" Yeahh...like that. Seriously.
So, then oddly enough, when Tommy saw this movie he was shock and revolted, but he "saw himself" as the victim. Ha.....then that inspired Tommy to write the room...or more like Tommy tried to copy the Ripley movie word for word, but Tommy is illiterate and only sees what he wants to see.
2.) James Franco and Dave Franco are wrong for the part. There is nothing "loveable" about Tommy underpaying and abusing his employees. He hired a cameraman to spy and record everything everybody said behind his back. The real Tommy and Greg were polar opposites. An extreme odd couple.
More realistic if Jeff Kober = Tommy Wiseau, and Army Hamer = Greg Sestero.
3.) The making of the shtty movie is only 25% of the story, The rest of it. 25% should be the genesis of a deluded, warped, twisted monster from the sewage of europe. He bombed in hollywood in the 80's and then became a middle aged guy selling phony Levi's on North Beach, but then has an epiphany and tries to be a teenager, again. The rest of the movie, 50%, is about an all americian boy determined to make it big in hollywood. It quickly turns dark...or as the millenials say "it hits different".
4.) Here's the friendship calculus:
a.) Greg being BFF was for his own survival.
b.) Tommy being BWW was fueled by dellusional entitlement and twisted rage.
In the movie, Talented Mr. Ripley, Jude Law's character, dickie, would still be alive if he had half the "bff talent and good heart" of Greg Sestero.
@@ThomasFlightbest f(r)einds was good. I loved that it referenced most things that was said in rl and from The Room
The disaster artist audiobook had me on my ass numerous times (especially Gregs imitation of Tommy). Seriously funny but also kinda deep seeing this complicated friendship that exists between Tommy and Greg. The movie missed so many opportunities to show the darker side of the relationship. I hope one day another director would give it a chance to make another disaster artist.
Good on these guys, They’re doing what they love.
Omg wonderful insight into the movie!!!!! I've never thought about some points before but they totally make sense!
Yes! So glad I get to see more of Greg.
Hahaha! What a story Mark!
I liked the disaster artist movie but felt like Gregs character was terrible. Just wasn't really fleshed out. Interested to see this series showing some insight into Greg
The book is so much better.
I think the best way to sum up my disappointment of the movie is that the book was about Greg, but the movie felt like it was about Tommy. And the impressions it paints with those different views really screwed up the narrative in the movie
J Franco just giving his tiny brother the role didn't really help. It's the story told like Tommy Wiseau would like it, with uncritical admiration for the tall Tommy by the small Greg.
Franco also seems to think he's a genious for being able to portay Wiseau quite well, while it's not half as good as Sestero's version.
@@L0REN0R2Z0RR0 Tiny. Great word. Says it all. The real story as you know would be a psychological thriller.
Excellent interview and excellent questions. Really intriguing. Thanks a bunch.
Tommy’s acting looks so natural and quirky that charms the viewer.
I didn't like James Franco's portrayal of Tommy because it seemed forced mimicry that doesn't capture Tommy’s spirit.
The Disaster Artist is a superb and entertaining memoir!
Franco excelled at it.
What?! you can never be a character equally as for that person's emotions but damm Franco did amazing.
The movie was good but Franco's attitude really ruined it for me. Seeing that what people got out of it is mostly "haha tommy so silly he cute like puppy" is just really sad to me. Tommy is more than people's stupid clown mascot, and James didn't do anything to contradict that when interacting with the press.
You're bonkers, Franco did an amazing job
Franco honestly didn’t sound enough like Tommy to me. He got some of the attitude, but it just didn’t feel very real or reflective of the impression I got from the book
This is a very well-put and nice video. Big props to you dude 💖
jeez the hat looks so nice on tommy!
gonna have a family reunion in a couple of weeks, thinking of doing The Room Marathon...
Gonna listen to the audio-book on my drive there, then watch the Room, then Disaster artist, then the Best F(r)iends Volumes
wow so cool greg did this with you!
What a story, mark!
tommy has eyes that remind me , when he acts in certain ways of anthony hopkins
D e xx
Thomas this video was awesome!!!!!!!
I loved these movies!
Nicely done. I also saw his genuine comical side coming through with "How is he gonna sleep?" 😂
Tommy's a true original!
Thomas great interview bud.
Is this like a prequel of the room or a prequel to the perfect artist?
so interesting to get to know the background of the meme.
i hoped mubi could replace popcorn time.
why is the streaming industry not teaming up. only time i enjoy a monopoly and it just doesn't happen.
Tommy has eyes like a chameleon.
Can you imagine how cool it would be if he could change colors like one?
Does Greg Sestero have a painting in the attic?
A picture of Doris Day.
Wow Greg is still really hot
Neither he nor Tommy have really aged much in 20 years.
I legit liked the best friends movie
The room looks much better than the disaster artist.
Tommy is actually slightly decent when is directed by someone else
Hey, your name is almost my name
So even decades later Greg stuck with the highlights in his hair? I think the more you see this. You realize that Tommy really was hurt by Greg. Here he opened his home and wallet to Greg. Then Greg just kinda shit on Tommy. Tommy is one of these unique folks with a drive. And does not make close relationships. This is obvious. See how he writes his character in the Room. He makes him popular, loved and liked by all. Outgoing and social. Which is what he wants to be but isn’t. So in Greg he found a connection. A person that wanted his advice and enjoyed the same things. Greg no matter what always got more out of their relationship. Greg will be remembered for this film and nothing else. Greg is the villain in real life
I WANNA SEE THE OLD MINECRAFT VIDEOS AGAIIIN THEY WERE MY CHILDHOOD
Tommy and Greg are The World’s Most Beautiful Men! 🧔🏻♂️😍
Surely reality doesn’t give a film any merit to films. Even reality tv and documentaries have to warp and shape it to make it interesting. Am I trolling myself by taking this video seriously?
I hate Dave Franco as Greg
he looks more like Danny tbh
Why is it “f(r)iends” not friends?
Take out the r
Calls himself the best friend but doesn't know where is YOUR friend FROM!
Planet Earth
Honestly Tommy Wisaeu probably doesnt know where he's from. He is such a damn mystery!
Greg was talking about after knowing Tommy for 5 years he didn't know where he was from
I'd guess Warsaw Poland or somewhere abouts.
Planet Tommy
The recent allegations against Fr4nco surely add a layer to this story.
Here was one of Holly-cool dudes portraying modern day's Ed Wood, with contemporary cringe humor added to it.
All the weird sexual tones he attributed being displayed by the sleazy fictional carachter, he admitted to have displayed in his life.
Also, Tommy could be described in many non edifying ways, but I wouldn't say he ever gives a portion of the smug vibes Fr4nco irradiates.
True! Smug vibes, pretty accurate
What if our Tommy has suffered from a major injury or something like that.. then how wide will your grin be as you ridicule this man? Don’t get me wrong- The Room IS absolutely ridiculous and hilarious in practically every conceivable way, and I always laugh *ABOUT* its sheer.. I-don’t-know-what (irony?) But I’ve never laughed AT Tommy. I don’t laugh AT anyone. How bout you? And btw it’s interesting that the haters wanna focus on someone like Tommy whose message is that people loving each other makes the world a better place, and not the people who are intentionally trying to oppress them and make the world NOT a better place. But I digress.
Its such a disservice to Greg when they cast Dave Franco aka the worst actor ever existed as Greg after butchering his book adaptation
Dave Franco looks nothing like Greg and was easily the worst casting choice in the movie.
@@wrath231 he looks, acts and sounds nothing like him
Nice video, but damn the movie looks ugly
The movie (Best Friends) is quite good. Give it a chance.
Someone just gotta know him from his early life?! Why does NOBODY speak out and tell his true story???? Someone muust know the true Wiseau???
yeah. like his parents? family members? formetr friends? maybe he did undergo a complete transition that no one recognizes him anymore
