The transmission in my truck went out in the spring of 1989 and I stopped at that house to ask if they knew of a tow truck, the tow truck operator was a trapper and musician he also was a very pleasant fellow from Chickaloon. On our ride to Anchorage he had many stories to tell, I remember one of them about selling antlers/horns. He would get animal rights activists visit his gas station, he mounted an antler on a rabbit skin, I think he called it a jackalop, he told them that it was the last one in the valley, it only cost about $100.00 to get towed in, if I remember.

Mountain Guide to Artist off the grid, what an awesome person! I've always wondered what some of the people in that area do every time I drive by. Your series does an excellent job showcasing the amazing hidden history each person has with them in the state.

That area of Alaska along the Glenn Highway is so beautiful, you are lucky to live there. Your artwork is beautiful. I have driven over that road many times in my 76 years living in Alaska. My wife and I have stayed at the cabins belonging to Dan and Sandy Lee multiple times that are close to the Victory Bible Camp. We will be driving over the Glenn Hwy again this weekend.
I think she did not mention hunting, but I am sure it would not be a problem for her to hunt or fish. She apears to have her act together.

What a life! Beautiful work. I guess that she's only off the grid concerning utilities? She mentioned a lot or chores, but none of it involved growing food or hunting...
Love what she's doing! The stones in the dying process is very interesting! Titling the piece "Indie Alaska" seemed like an attempt to make her look cool. But she's obviously amazing, so it kinda stood out for me as thoughtless & boring, but the woman they chose, kudos to her.
