Playing Dvořák's New World is not easy. When I saw the title that they play this symphony, I couldn't believe it. St. Paul's College was my school between 1957 to 1966. I am so proud of my young school mates here, many are small kids in primary school. I love those girls from Diocesan Girls’ School too. I am esp. impressed by the girl timpanists, little girls playing the big drums with power and authority. I don't know why she concedes her seat to a bigger brother in the last movement. I think there are three: two girls and one young man. Maybe they take turns to have a chance for each to play. One girl plays in the first two movements, one plays in the third. There is the special instrument too in the second movement. The oboist also plays the cor anglais (aka the English Horn) is impressive. Seeing them playing their hearts out, I got tears in my eyes. The conductor is also a student, I think. He is in full control of the performance. Imagine how much effort and time he has to spend for the rehearsals. This is a full symphony orchestra. Bravo to all! A special mention to the camera work, focusing on different instruments when relevant. Really professional.
