    I was about to throw this winder out my window! Holding the yarn parallel to the winder was a lifesaving tip---for me and my winder.

    Thanks for this video! One hint for keeping your shoulder from hurting is to clamp it on the other side of the corner so the handle is parallel to you so your arm goes forward and back, not in front of you.

      The inside roll of a toilet paper roll fits perfectly over the winder's winder that I have, so I roll my yarn directly onto that.

    Thanks so much for the tips. I have the same winder and was going to return it because the yarn kept falling off the ends and I ended up with a tangled mess. I set it up the way you showed and it worked great! Working from behind the unit made all the difference. I also tied a knot in the center pull tail so that it wouldn't slip out of the slot while winding.

    Thank you so much for this. This is the second time I came back to look at this as I was having issues with my yarn winder....again. I am going to try using an empty bathroom tissue roll for the center but put it on BEFORE I start winding so it's wound on the roll. For my sanity, and the next time I have issues I saved your video!

    I've been cutting slits into a tp roll (no tp on it lol), folding them to make an end... Putting the roll into the winder, winding my yarn. Then following your tips. The cake slides onto the roll, I do the same to the 2nd end and tuck in my yarn end. It works pretty great.

    Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I actually saw an almost identical yarn winder in a store on Tuesday and thought about buying it since I have some skeins of yarn that are in a mess and I didn't want to wind them by hand. But, I already had too much in my shopping cart! :)
    I also remembered that I thought I had seen one at a local thrift store. Went to that thrift store yesterday and there it was! No clamp, no instructions, looked very old but very cheap! I have some clamps for other things that worked with this. The first time, I didn't hold it tight enough so it was messy, huge and I wasn't even halfway through! So, I unraveled it and started again and it is great!!! Thank you again for this video, great tips and tricks!

    • @marjielouscreations
      @marjielouscreations  Год назад

      That seems like it might be a tension issue, are you holding the yarn (like I do in my left hand) you can apply more tension by holding it tighter, but not too tight because then it may break the gears on the inside.
      Personally I don't pull from the center anymore because I find I have to rewind it because they fall apart after using them for a little while.

      I personally make the yarn rings. I've been making them for years, and I'm just back from a months vacation and just reopened up my Etsy shop.
      You can get one from the link below.
      I made it at first because I had been making a wedding dress and at some point my speed doubled and caused a bad burn on my finger, I was sick of wearing Band-Aids when I crochet, this is what came to mind. I'm at the point where I can't knit or crochet without one. It also helps with tension.

      I have done sock yarn, but I haven't done fingering weight, or a thread yet. With the sock yarn it held nicely, but the big hole in the center made it less firm than the other cakes.

      i can still use the yarn mushed almost flat as a pancake. Thank you for the help.

      Oh no! That probably means that some of the gears are broken. That happend to my first one after using it for 2 weeks. I just took it back to the store and got this one as a replacement, and it's still working fantastic many years later.

      @@ellenmatzke8509 my husband took my first broken one apart to try to fix it, but a piece was broken. There are screws and if your red green handy then try it. But you can just take it back to Micheal's and they'll replace it, they are good that way.

    Since you place your ball on a "yarn holder" or a lazy kate, it won't matter but if you take the yarn from the centre, there is a right and a wrong direction to wind the ball! Did you know that?

    • @marjielouscreations
      @marjielouscreations  4 года назад

      I did not know that. I have not had an issue with pulling it from the center.

    Yah way to much tension on your yarn and holding the yarn down to far.try holding yarn upwards and just let it flow through your fingers. It's working way to hard . I have one just like it. Nice video. I find the drawback to this particular winder is if the cake gets big, it starts dragging.

    • @marjielouscreations
      @marjielouscreations  5 лет назад

      holding it tighter gives it a firm cake when its done winding. I don't like the loose cakes that fall apart when i take it on the go
