The true story is far more unbelievable. Doss faced the fury of war malnourished when he saved all those lives. His faith prevented him from eating most rations. He survived on local plants. He was starving to death and still had more strength than 100 men... He was wounded, with severe lacerations and broken bones and continued to save lives. He rolled off the gurney to save more. He was beyond comprehension...
@@BOT_JERRY I'm sorry you're too ignorant to accept reality. Read a book or the official MILITARY RECORDS. He was starving because his faith prevented him from eating his rations. He saved over 70 souls and official records showed his fragile form. The real story is actually more unbelievable than the movie. The final scene with him being lifted from the battlefield only happened after he rolled off the Gurney to give his spot to a more wounded comrade. He then went on to save a few more soldiers before collapsing from his wounds. Get a life internet troll.
Broke my heart when I first saw this. Then I researched it. It was even more gut wrenching. And on the hill. He dragged the sergeant to the cliff and saved his half body life. Such a humble man in real life. And this man who portrayed him was a masterpiece. ❤❤❤
I'm related to him on my Mother's side. He grew up in Lynchburg, VA. We have a long list of Doss family members. We appreciate what Desmond did for our country, and the men in his platoon!! 💚 O+

This crosses all and any societal groups from ethnicity to religion.... your family were so lucky to have him. I wish he had been part of mine. To this day he is changing the fate of others.
His reconciliation with the men who beat him, or ignored it, or thought he was less than was amazing. You vant fight a war with pacifism and sometimes you need to fight a war, but you sure can't bring peace without men who don't know that you can't win everything with violence.
Yeah well while I was on special duty in Bahrain I worked with the army (I was AD AF at the time). I had a private I worked the gate with and we got along great. One day he came in wearing shades and I started talking to him and he finally said "You're gonna find out soon enough." And took his shades off. He had a massive black eye. I asked what happened. He had a bunk mate that he didn't get along with. It finally came to a head and they fought. He said if his Sargent asked though he fell off his bunk. That was the actual story he told his Sargent right in front of me too. So yeah stuff like this does happen even if it isn't common.
My favorite movie of all time. Mr Doss and so many many many more of OUR VETERANS, are the truest evidence of what honor and bravery is all about. Every time I find myself in the presence of OUR VETERANS I feel so humbled just to be allowed so. I'm so grateful that I've been blessed to have met many WW II, KOREA, AND VIETNAM VETERANS. Doss saved 75 men over two days and nights. A lot of those men were in his platoon, the same men that beat him. 😮 Because of his extreme bravery many more people are alive today because of those 75 soldiers. Wives , children, grandchildren to say nothing of anyone that they have saved in their lifetime. Just think about it. ❤
He saved 300+ men, he just didn't want to be considered boastful so he only wanted 50 shown on his medal but settled on 75 when his officers didn't agree
They never beat him.. that was made up for the movie. And 75 is what was agreed on, but can't be verified . Most of movie isn't real. What's real is he was a medic during war, like thousands of other medics. He also carried a firearm and shot. All that other stuff was created to make a good story.
Because they thought he would get it easy by running without weopon (but medical equipment) and have Saturdays free (when he worked on Sundays). Also thought he feels like someone special when he could refuse weapons training but they could not.
Because contentious objectors have never been treated well at the time of their war, even if they agree to an altered form of service like Doss like thousands of other Quaker servicemen who refused to engage in battle but ran the field kitchens, the back line field hospitals, drove ambulances, and (especially in WWI) took care of the animals.
I saw this towards the end of my military career. This is one heck of a movie. I understand his beliefs. As a Christian I never should have swore or pledged my life because the only one that I should ever do that for is the Lord. My Pastor, whose father was in the navy just as I was, he said he understood why I joined and that he and my ometown church never stopped supporting me and the choice to serve after we were attacked on 9/11. I am proud to say: I am a Christian I am the grandson of a soldier I am the son of a soldier I am a nephew of a soldier I am a cousin of soldier and marine I am a Sailor who is proud of his family and loves this country! Thank you to my family.
It is always reassuring that ppl who are given mass destrzctiin weapons act like this and that it is seen as a way of being "one of us" to not kick out lunatics who act like that. In every military you find this kind of sadistic, babaric and completely useless behavior. And after they are done traumatizing each other at home, they get out into war. It is awful how "not snitching " is often romanticized in movies. Only full metal jacket has the balls to at least hint at what that dies to the psyche.
Says someone who has never been in any military or fought in any war. If you don't understand what goes into being a war-fighter, and to also be in real war, it's best not to insult them. Sit comfortably in your home and behind your keyboard while greaterer men than you or I will ever be, go out to fight snd die for the rest of us.
@@_DMNO_ Today, these “greaterer” men are fighting & dying purely for the interests of corporations and the ultra rich. And I certainly don’t co-sign it in my name or my “freedom.” Fighting a war just to fight a war does not make someone great.
i love how the sargent goes from soft and compassionate to his drill voice as asoon as he doesnt leave, showing its only an act of intimidation and if needed he really cares for his soldiers

I guess, according to you, there should be no court trials for victims of crimes because no one should “snitch” on the criminals. He had tuberculosis at the time of hacksaw ridge so he had to stiffle his coughing so as not not give away his location while finding injured soldiers he was diagnosed while in the V.A hospital and lost a lung to it. But that's not even half of it as he already was involved in two previous battles in the Pacific and was awarded the bronze star twice for the lives he saved in them the number of people he actually saved in the 3 battles he was involved in was closer to 300 men but he didn't want that on his medal of honour as not a prideful man he asked for just 50 to be shown but they settled on 75. He makes you want to be a better human being and his story is still taught to recruits to this day to show what one man is truly possible of doing if he really believes he can. There was a special ceremony held last year 2023 to represent this legend of a human being. May he rest in peace.
Thank you!
Wow this is incredible.
What is amazing is that people like you are willing to tell the stories of these legends. Because of people like you their stories will love on for as long as we're willing to tell it. Peace brother and I wish you the best in life.
Tremendous respect🫡
To all of you who have read my comment I say yes watch the movie as its fantastic all round but go deeper and read or listen to his autobiography as it truly is mind blowing.
I love the part when the Commander called.and ask why have they not started the mission yet.they said the men are waiting for doss to finish praying.those men would not move until he finished praying
Tak, ten moment filmu chwytał za gardło i serce. Przepiękna historia.
One of my favorite parts to

when he came down from the cliff to his colleagues, him freaking out due to shock and realization that hes not in immediate danger was so freaking well done!
This wasnt the best part by a long shot, it was when his brothers went back and got his bible to give to Doss, because they all realized God gave Doss the strength to save them.
Yeah . Good part in the movie, but never happened in reality
"i sleep pretty hard' same here ☠💀
Desmond Doss is one hell of a human. Really inspiring what life he has taught.
He just gained everyone’s respect even if it was just a little
(They shouldn’t have beat him in the first place tho)

they aren't men I'd trust to defend me on the battlefield. Fuck their respect if it were my brothers that did this, I'm an only child.
Great man the only observer who earned the Congressional medal of Honor with out killing a single person . Saved around 100 service men in one night ..... We salute you for you service
His Sargent and Major both said he is the bravest man they ever met
I am proud of this person but of every person that ever served in Americas military…thank you all for your service.
This movie will forever have a place in my heart an example of a true and honest man who stood up for what he believed in and fought to the very end. A true and proud American. Thank you all for your service🇺🇸

Pretty sure almost everyone knows the name of this movie, but for those who don’t, it’s “Hacksaw Ridge”. If you haven’t seen it, watch it. I’m not even a huge fan of war movies, but this is certainly one that you simply can’t pass up. Great story. Great movie.
Thank you I didnt know
I agree. I'm a huge movie buff, but I've never been a big fan of war movies. "Hacksaw Ridge" is one of my favorite movies ever. It's definitely worth a watch!
Thanks so much
Spider man was keeping his indentity a secret 😂😂😂
Desmond Doss was a real medic who was disrespected by his group at first, but would over time gain the respect of EVERY SINGLE MAN on his regiment.
If he was starving to death. He wouldn't have the strength of 100 men stop the lies
@@BOT_JERRYCan't stop historical facts buddy.

@@divinesolar4606 true true. History repeats itself. THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN
And he goes on to save most of their lives too.
"I sleep pretty hard" 🤣
I'm related to him on my Mother's side. He grew up in Lynchburg, VA. We have a long list of Doss family members. We appreciate what Desmond did for our country, and the men in his platoon!! 💚 O+
Respect, he was obviously a great human being. Sorry but I gotta ask, to your knowledge is the movie accurate?
I'm not really familiar with his time in Service.
He is a inspiring person for anyone. He was everything good in the world despite being in one of the worst moments of humanity's history. I wanna be like good strong humble person he was. This crosses all and any societal groups from ethnicity to religion.... your family were so lucky to have him. I wish he had been part of mine. To this day he is changing the fate of others.
Bull shit
I used to pick up trucks from cte in Lynchburg by owens market lol
His reconciliation with the men who beat him, or ignored it, or thought he was less than was amazing. You vant fight a war with pacifism and sometimes you need to fight a war, but you sure can't bring peace without men who don't know that you can't win everything with violence.
That never really happened.. it'd called a movie

The bravest soldier is the one who dont need a weapon to fight. Amazing courage.
He did carry a weapon.. they made that up for the movie.

I sleep pretty hard

"Yeah, I just fell out of bed is all."
You can tell he gained so much respect from the sergeant that day
He got to be thankful that Doss doesn't quit that day.
Bro this is such a good movie! The movie is called Hacksaw Ridge
He sounded so sweet bro id tell for him like bro😭😭😭deserves a hug
This man had something most men never will. True courage and strength of spirit
strength of spirit especially, it's so damn rare
And the strength of being Spiderman
I am sorry, every time I see his face, I think of spiderman
And Faith and trust in God!!! 🙏🙏
He had what thousands of other medics had during war. Only they didn't brag and sell their embellishments
When Doss saved so many men and his accomplishments were so astonishing that they had to leave shit out to make it believable for the movie.
that "alright" was a pain.
To All of OUR VETERANS, I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR Y'ALL'S SERVICE. Sincerely with LOVE TEXAS. P.S. Lady Veterans from WW II, have told me some jokes that ALWAYS MADE ME TURN RED 😳🤣.

Who ever attacked him was a coward

WTF would you put hands on the one man who’s job is to patch you up 😂
Because they thought he would get it easy by running without weopon (but medical equipment) and have Saturdays free (when he worked on Sundays).
Also thought he feels like someone special when he could refuse weapons training but they could not.

People fear what they don't understand, we all know where fear leads....

I am proud to say:
I am a Christian
I am the grandson of a soldier
I am the son of a soldier
I am a nephew of a soldier
I am a cousin of soldier and marine
I am a Sailor who is proud of his family and loves this country!
Thank you to my family.
A real man always stands up for what he belives in and always forgives those who have hurt him
It is always reassuring that ppl who are given mass destrzctiin weapons act like this and that it is seen as a way of being "one of us" to not kick out lunatics who act like that. In every military you find this kind of sadistic, babaric and completely useless behavior. And after they are done traumatizing each other at home, they get out into war. It is awful how "not snitching " is often romanticized in movies. Only full metal jacket has the balls to at least hint at what that dies to the psyche.
Hey... You're an original thinker. How weird.
@@_DMNO_ bold to asume i am not working in a force and have witnessed and witness this regulary, cause i do.
@@_DMNO_ Today, these “greaterer” men are fighting & dying purely for the interests of corporations and the ultra rich. Not for “freedom.”
People like you are what enable this folly by romanticizing it. There’s no honour in travelling to some 3rd world country to topple governments and kill. And I certainly don’t co-sign it in my name or my “freedom.”
Fighting a war just to fight a war does not make someone great.
i love how the sargent goes from soft and compassionate to his drill voice as asoon as he doesnt leave, showing its only an act of intimidation and if needed he really cares for his soldiers

Really?!! You’re part of the problem and why the world is like it is! People need to “snitch” on those who hurt and bully others, so they won’t continue to do so!
I guess, according to you, there should be no court trials for victims of crimes because no one should “snitch” on the criminals.
Criminals “snitch” on themselves by choosing to hurt others, and they deserve their consequences! 😡
