Used to have a '69 Ford Chateau 123 window van. 3/4 ton with 1 ton package. 302 CU, 1 ton brakes, suspension, C6 auto trans, 4.56 posi rear end. Was a beast of a vehicle. First learned how to do brakes on that thing. BIg springs. Big shoes. Got driver's license with it. Had a steering wheel the size of a dinner table. Manual steering..

Some great one wheel peels from those Fords.
That's just a typical with open diffs. Getting both sides to spin is hit and miss.
Thank god for TV magic there is no way those old Fords could do a Smoke show like that unless the car had really bald tires or the TV crew put oil on the right rear tire

My 460 Thunderbird could hardly spin a wheel because they stuck them with 2 something gears.

My first car was a 73 4-door Ford LTD Brougham. Interesting for the ones for Police use had the outer part of those 73-74 wheel covers painted black.
The body roll was ridiculous on those full size Fords

Adam 12 had a helluva chase with a '70-'71 Cyclone GT, should you ever discover it!
I upload that chase over 5 years ago and re-uploaded a cleaner picture quality version just last month. Both videos were blocked by Universal Studios and can not be viewed in the US and Canada. That chase also has the original Pontiac GTO that was used in Two Lane Blacktop which was the bigger interest in me uploading that chase.

I'd love to get one of these big old barges and spend an afternoon powersliding around a parking lot with it just for fun. I imagine it won't be quite the same without those old bias-ply tires that had zero cornering grip, though.
No vandam way did i just heard that guy say he's got 383 hemi is not true as in 71 you could have 440 big block or 426 hemi gtx car but a roadrunner had 383 small block there's no such thing as 383 hemi so who's the writer of this movie really did not know cars or mopars at all 😂😂.

Funny for sure, but the 383 ain't no small block. It's a wedge like the 440 but low-deck & smaller bore/stroke.

The police car version handled pretty good for its size. I had a 76 with the 460 in it. Ran like hell😂

Started out one Adam-12 end up being the rookie how we making smoke the tires like that on such a big car we add brake fluid on the tires to make it smoke real good and the sounds that your hearing we had later most of the time we get the sounds from Camaros are Trans-Am just saying

Wow those things handled so bad back then! Might be because the supensions are shot being old cop cars and being used by Hollywood, or that's just how they wallowed & handled.
even brand new those old land yachts handled like that as for the burnouts those cars were Choked out with pollution control BS and all the V8s went from a 4 barrel to a 2 barrel carb so doing a burnout was nearly impossible to do on a normal Mom and Dad car the cars you seen in the Rookies doing Burnouts the TV crew probably poured oil on the tire for a WOW TV effect in reality those big old boats were just a 5000 pound slugs
Well yes and no. The patrol car had to be reliable, few maintenance problems and ability to do the job. It didn't have to be the fastest around as few things can beat the police radio or helicopter. For speed, specifically the hwy patrol cars sometimes were optioned with the biggest engine available with heavy duty suspension. The basic design and ability of those 60s-70s police cars didn't radically change much going into the 80s-2000s either.

@@rogerstlaurent8704 well there were some background montego's that were real LAPD units on loan for producing, adam 12 would've had a montego but the lapd told jack webb not to because the car sucked which I find hard to believe since they came with the 429 v8 and a 429 montego 4 door hardtop is literally my dream car, never heard a had thing about them.
