Dr Ergot correct. The original smatchet was/is a great fighting knife. The cold steel smatchet is a thin bladed machete with a blade thickness of 2.8mm & 19.75” long. The Fairbairn Smatchet was only 16.5” with a much thicker blade.
@@leemcgann6470 (1) Raid military heritage for a distinctive name and blade shape, (2) 'broaden market appeal' by muddling it up with... oh, I don't know, it's big, how about a machete?, (3) manufacture as cheaply as possible, (4) ignore the fact that the result is neither one thing nor the other, and makes the Dutch reviewer's hand "go like a fucking cartoon", (5) laugh all the way to the bank.
Dr Ergot I am very disappointed with the cold steel machetes! Lots of very cool/tacticool designs! But the product quality control is pish poor! I bought 2 for short ones for snake dispatching... I cut a green vine the size of my lil finger & rolled the edge over 1/16” . No temper what so ever!
As i love the vesatility of the Skrama, it is my winner here... the Grip is great and the sharpness is outstanding.... oh yeah, it looks a bit as forged by the Orks, bit i like that.
I own the silky and live in the maine woods and use it to quarter up some pretty hard wood...Its also extremely comfortable and if your looking for a jack of all trades I would recommend the nata...also very durable blade and can be used to de-limb felled trees with very little effort
Professionally I use the silky nata. I cut wedges with it and hammer the wedges in with the nata. I cut down brush and tree roots with this knife. I pry stumps. The silky nata is an unstoppable tank of a chopper. Be careful! This is a 2 pound, ten inch long razor.
I have the Jaakaripuukko which I love so the Skrama is probably the one I would buy first.. I also considered the Cold steel Kukri and is already on my wishlist but I prefer the Skrama overall.
I own the Cold Steel Smatchet for about 3 years now. I stripped the coating, sharpened it to a convex and carved the handle to look like knapped stone I love that blade. Great temper. Rings like a bell when chopping and holds a decent edge
Skrama is my favorite out of those, but the silky looked great as well! I’ll buy the skrama pretty soon I’m sure. Their puukko is amazing for the price, I use it more often than any other of my knives. So I’m sure the skrama will also be exceptional for the price.
Since you promised you read these comments, I thought I should say you guys are definitely my favorite RUclipsrs and have bought many knives based on your recommendation.
I have the cold steel kurkri machete. It's the longer version of the one you tested. After a little work with a file and some stones, I found it chops really well.
You guys should try out the condor mini duku parang had mine for a few years I’ve put a thinner convex on mine and it cuts and chops better than any other tool I own
I have the Cold Steel Kukri for more than 8 years and I use it a lot, it is great for chopping medium branches and even big ones. Every time I have a garden job I trust him. It is even good in the forest. The most well spend money.
I have the skrama, the Nata and the Condor K-Tac Kukri....all Great knives and i Love them...but like you Said, the best combo have the Skrama! Great Video! Greetings from Bavaria!
I love the Skrama. I also like the CS kukri because it's more lightweight and if you only need it for chopping. But if just for chopping I prefer a 10 dollar Tramontina 12 inch latin machete because of the weight. The Skrama is heavier but is more the one tool option because you can carve with it also. I think that extended grip is the key to the success of the Skrama.
Here in Arizona, my Skrama takes a real beating and never lets me down. Very easy to sharpen as well. Great chopper and all around good knife to have in the outdoors.
Tanks, finally you made the video that I was asking you, I bought the Silky Nata and I'm satisfied in Bush with it I don't need no more things except a saw , Silky is a knife an axe a chopper and a cutter
Hi DBK, greetings from Chile, I had the Silky Nata, and I can tell you it's great and very versatile, the grid is a little weird for a chopper but works well once you have use to it, so please make a full review.
I use the Silky nata in woods and I enjoy the day ,you have the nata you have knife , chopper, axe and multi tool, all in one, and it won't let you down
I really enjoy your videos. Filled with solid information and senseful logic; which is hard to come by these days even on RUclips. Btw... I would really really appreciate if you make a separate detailed review video for the silky nata..
As someone who owns the same kukri: Sadly, it wouldn't. Sharpening is not enough, you have to re-grind it completely before it stops being a disappointment.
I love the cold steel kukri magnum; exactly like the one you tested, but a bit longer. Been abusing it for about 3 years, and for about £30 I am over the moon with it. Keep up the great cheap reveiws!
The Terävä Skrama is incredible. They make a double sheath for it, so you can carry the 240 Skrama and either the mini Puuko or the mini Skrama. You'd have your BIG Camp knife/chopper and a small knife for deilcate work. Great choice!
I just got my Skrama and am very impressed with the factory edge. I usually have to run my Cold Steel machetes through a Smith's before they'll slice paper.
Entertaining video guys I think I might give the silky a try for the money but I've seen a lot of good reviews of the tops El chete what do you think about that chopper
How on earth does this video not have the Ontario Marine raider bowie SP10 in it??????? For around 50 dollars this is imo is the best chopper for under $100. Probably as good as anything that Becker or Esee make for way more $$
The smatchet chopping performance was better than i expected because it is sold as a machete. Its not going to chop wood or split nearly as well because of the blade profile. I knew the kukri would do well. It was designed for chopping over 100 years ago. You guys should look into trying out a Himalayan Imports kukri. I'm going to Amazon to look for the Silky chopper right now.
I have the Skrama in Carbon steel and its a dream to use, I was on the fence about the Silky Nata but from your testing I will definitely have to pick one up.
Wow I missed this video last week! I had hoped to see the Kershaw Kukri Machete in this chopping contest, to bad they didn't reach out to you guys. I love mine and at least mine came pretty dang sharp for a machete!
I'll take a Kuhkri everyday, have never used the cold steel kuh. but something about that front heavy re-curve that just works well for me. Waiting for BRK to make one!
I'm Very surprised you didn't include the Mora Pathfinder chopper in this test or any other video of yours yet.. I think this blade disserves your attention .
I would add the silky to my shopping list, in case I wanted a chopper. For now I will stick to knife and small axe. Thanks for the review guys! watch those fingers...
I really like the kukri design guys the weighted axe belly to the blade helps with low effort chopping👍 i reckon itd have good chance of winning if it were given a dbk sharpening too. Also what edge do you guys thinks best for a machete chopper, convex? And what your guys opinion on full flat grinds. Do you think modern socalled full flats are true? Personally they all seem to have false v edge grinds.... what hou think dudes.
I have the Becker BK4 Kukri and the Skrama I used a canoe scythe sharpening stone to sharpen the recurve of the kukri Once the kukri is sharpened well, if has a strong sweet spot and chops much better Using the canoe stone the recurve cn be quite acute and handles fine work very well BUT the Skrama out performs the kukri on all types of tasks
Silky nata is always in my backpack now. It is a bit heavy, but I works great as a hutchet, a machete, a draw knife, a knife knife, also satisfying to smash things with :)
Hi guys, I propose you to look at Tramontina and Condor. They have great propositions under 100 $ and it will be great to see your opinion for them. Have fun from Bulgarian knife lover.
I can't believe Condor didn't participate in this . With the amount of choppers that they make , how hard would it have been to have an 11 year old El Salvadorian boy to drop one off at the mailbox?
Hey guys first great job your videos are awsesome, but can you show me maybe how to sharp the skrama with the wetstone find on website of varusteleka. Thx guys 😄

The Skrama will always be the best. Mordor just makes great quality choppers!
It would be great if the Skrama had the same handle as the Silky

Kukri would win chopping comp if you sharpened it. Cold steel machetes come with such a bad edge

Yeah that looks like a super high edge angle.

Absolutely not. No file knife will ever have retention that high unless it's a very high end file. 1095 has great retention and toughness
